North Shetter of Menominee, MI received the prestigious ICD Humanitarian Award. North has been an active Rotarian for thirty years, is a past president of his club (1985-1986). Both he and Jan are Paul Harris Fellows and Foundation Benefactors. In 1996, he was awarded the Service Above Self award by Rotary International for his work in the area of world community service. He was District Governor of District 6220 during 2001–2002. Dr. Shetter and his wife, Jan have been host parents to eight Rotary Youth Exchange students. With the help of Rotary International and the Flying Dentists Association, he has been actively involved in a dental mission project in Jamaica for over 30 years. He and his team were recognized for their service by the government of Jamaica and Rotary in March 2009. The Jamaican Dental Project began in 1985. Members of the Flying Dentists Association provided volunteer services as there were only 100 dentists in Jamaica for a population of 2.5 million. These services included basic oral surgery, restorative dentistry, and with the local Peace Corp developed a program to improve oral hygiene and dietary education. What started as an experiment lasted for 30 years. During this time he was able to get the government to introduce fluoridated salt to the island and over the years we saw the children’s dental health improve immensely, He is a former president of the M and M Area Community Foundation and a board member of the Twin County Free Clinic. North is an active pilot, with commercial, airline transport and flight instructor ratings. He and Jan spend the winter on the west coast of Florida where he teaches part-time at the LECOM Dental school in Bradenton, FL.

Greetings ICD Michigan Chapter Fellows, I hope you are well and spring has sprung by the time you read this. Winter has been slow to let go of it's grip, but we have good times ahead. This year at our annual breakfast meeting, during MDA Annual Session, we will be honoring our members that have reached 25 years of active fellowship with a special pin. Please join us and better yet, sponsor a new Fellow to start their journey in ICD. Look to join many of our fellows at the MDAF Mission of Mercy June 1-2, 2018 at Calvin College, Grand Rapids. We have pledged monetary support for the mission and need volunteers as well. Hope to see you there! Go to http://www.rsvpbook.com/ event.php?521362
