Founded in 1989, Interna is an Italian industrial group, leader in the sector of the contract furnishings worldwide. It operates within the high-end market and stands out for excellence in products and services and for a solid international management.

Interna develops and manages all-encompassing turnkey furnishing projects with supply of ad hoc designed furniture, cooperating with prestigious interior design studios and renowned purchasing companies, appointed by the client for each single project.

More than three decades ago Interna began its activity within the hospitality sector where it holds today a position of excellence with a reference list of hundreds of terrific projects, implemented all over the five continents, unique for their historic or artistic value. Starting from 2005, thanks to the technical and managerial experience acquired over the years, and to the constant cooperation with major hotel chains, prestigious designers and respected international purchasing companies, Interna expanded its range of activities, addressing other contract sectors such as luxury residential, retail, marine, corporate and wellness.

Interna turnkey includes internal building works, finishes and decorations, as well as fixed and loose furniture for indoors and outdoors. Its scope of work spans from the executive planning to the production of all fixed and loose components of the project, from logistics to installation on site, from final testing to post sales assistance, always in accordance with quality, prices and deadlines agreed upon.

Interna products are created ad hoc for each single project: they can be produced exclusively upon client’s design or selected from Interna own collections and customized in terms of finishes and materials, so to suit the cultural genius loci of the client.

With a dedicated team and hundreds of persons working in linked companies, Interna offers today its services to large international investors who want to create prestigious furnishing projects, characterized by unique design and by a often complex management due to the dimensions of the project, the specificity of the products, the ever-pressing deadlines and the particular locations.

The making of the interiors of large yachts or cruise ships needs to take into consideration aspects which are truly specific to the marine industry and combine aesthetics with functional and safety considerations. The work of Interna Marine Division not only complies with the specifications of each project, but also with a series of international regulations applying to the marine sector. Special requirements in the selection of materials are also a standard feature of these projects, as well as special installation procedures that respect fire safety regulations and anti-vibration requirements. Great attention must also be given to environmental and health & safety aspects, particularly in the choice of the varnishes used. Finally, acoustics and lighting issues must also be taken into careful consideration in order to avoid any possible lack of comfort.

INTERNA IN THE NAVAL SECTOR

Interna Group started its activity in the naval sector in 2008 carrying out the turnkey fit out of part of the public areas of the cruise ship Carnival Dream for Fincantieri. Right after this first, successfully completed project, Interna signed with Fincantieri further contracts to implement the complete fit out of 11 cruise liners to be delivered from 2008 till 2016.

From 2016, thanks to the extensive experience and know-how acquired over the years, Interna has been awarded new turnkey fit out contracts for prestigious vessels by two other major international shipyards: the French STX, now Chantiers de l’Atlantique, in Saint Nazaire and the German Meyer Werft in Papenburg.

As of today, Interna has completed nearly twenty turnkey fit out naval projects, while almost 10 more, 5 of which are already under construction, are in the pipeline and will have to be completed by 2026.

INTERNA’S SCOPE OF WORK

The scope of work of Interna in the naval sector is generally the complete fit out for public areas for which Interna is contractually responsible at 360° in regard to quality of the items supplied, compliance with design and technical specifications, respect of the strict delivery terms and the budgets agreed with the client. Starting from the so called net box, as to say the bulkhead steel structure, Interna proceeds with the interior decoration of walls, floorings, counter-ceilings, millworks, lighting, curtains, up to the most detailed piece of interior decoration.

ORGANIZATION

Organization is essential in the naval sector and, paradoxically, the management skills matter much more than the fit out that anyhow has to be implemented with the highest standards of quality to meet the aesthetical, functional, operational and health and safety requirements. Interna’s team dedicated to the naval sector is a highly performing one: all employees have an excellent background and professional training as to grant that each single piece supplied is in compliance with the very strict rules regarding material selection and construction techniques, and also with the health and safety requirements. They also grant a regular and continuous coordination with all the other parties involved in the project: the shipyards, the outfitting companies and the many other contractors working on board.

Interna offers a wide range of high quality furnishings designed for hospitality, many of whom specifically created and engineered for intensive use in naval projects. These are items that perfectly meet the specific needs of the contract industry, aesthetically pleasing but functional, able to wholly comply with the technical and maintenance requirements of the operators. The collection - more than 1400 concepts - is in line with the budgets of the naval sector and can be fully customized: the client is in fact asked to choose materials, finishes and, where possible, also the dimensions of the items selected.

Spirit of Discovery, built in Papenburg at the Meyer Werft shipyards and first new cruise ship of the luxury British company Saga Cruises, is a small-sized vessel designed to meet the tastes and needs of discerning over 50 passengers. With a contemporary, sober and elegant concept designed by the London-based SMC design studio, the Spirit of Discovery offers an almost familiar atmosphere, warm and welcoming thanks to the informal furniture in pastel tones surrounded by the refined artworks present in all the public areas.

Interna was called upon to implement the complete fit-out of three areas: the Britannia Lounge on deck 12, the Gym on deck 13 and the Laundrettes on decks 8 and 10. First vessel implemented for the Meyer Werft shipyards, the Spirit of Discovery has been completed by Interna successfully and the works for the twin ship Spirit of Adventure, to be launched in 2020, have already begun.

Celebrity Edge, the prototype of a new class of ships launched by the RCC, faces up to its name: technology, comfort and design, everything has been brought to the Edge. The best designers have been called to take part in the creation of this new, exciting project and Interna had the pleasure to work on it with HBA Miami and BG International from New York.

Interna scope of work included the fit-out of about 1.400 square metres for the Tuscan restaurant, with a classical design inspired by the Italian fashion and film industry and the Normandie restaurant, a modern, glamorous space that brings to mind the atmosphere of a spring day in Paris.

From floor to ceiling Interna produced and installed all the fixed elements in compliance with the detailed design specifications, the rather strict naval rules regarding weight and fireproofing and respecting the high quality standards required to meet the demands for frequent use materials in public premises.

Bellissima & Meraviglia

Flagships of the MSC Cruises, built at the STX shipyards -now Chantiers de l’Atlantiquein Saint Nazaire, the Meraviglia and the Bellissima are megaships that boast an incredible detailed design that lives up to their names.

For these queens of the sea, Interna France supplied, upon exclusive concept of Tillberg Design, a complete turnkey with full fit out - planning, assembly and final check - of floors, walls, ceilings and all the furniture for the Cafeteria, 4.000 square metres open 20 hours per day with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the sea and open style kitchens. As the first two vessels of four, the Meraviglia and the Bellissima are the first of their class and the biggest of the whole fleet.

Symphony & Harmony of the Seas

The Symphony of the Seas and the Harmony of the Seas, with 227 thousand tons, are two of the biggest cruise ships ever built, part of the Royal Caribbean Cruise fleet. Interna has been part of these magnificent projects, supplying the turnkey fit out of the interiors of many of the public areas of these two giants of the seas, such as the restaurants Vintages, Chop’s Grill, 150 Central Park, Jamie’s Italian, Park Cafè and Johnny Rockets along with part of the retail areas. Interna manufactured and installed all the items in compliance with the highest standards of production, with painstaking attention to each single detail and respect of the somewhat rigid naval regulations. The business relationship between STX-Chantiers de l’Atlantique and Interna, started in 2014, lead to the successful launch of three huge cruise ships in the first four years and foresees 11 more vessels within 2026.

Viking Cruise ships 2015-2017

The Viking Ocean Cruises commissioned to Fincantieri in 2015 a new fleet of oceanic cruise ships, small vessels conceived for high-profile, exclusive and wealthy clients who require the highest levels of design, comfort and service on board.

The interior design, jointly signed by London-based SMC Design and Rottet Studio from Los Angeles, - similar in the 4 twin vessels in terms of spaces, but exclusive and unique in each of them as for colours and finishes-, expresses a sophisticated and contemporary elegance well combined with functionality.

Interna has been called to work on a turnkey basis on the four twin ships Viking Star, Viking Sea, Viking Sky and Viking Sun. In detail it worked on Deck 2 (multifunction theatre and dressing rooms, theatre, lobby bar, cinemas starboard & port, theatre stores, broadcasting office, entertainment lounge, the street, fashion retail & jewellery stores), Deck 7 (explorer lounge, owner’s suite & balcony, owner’s suite sauna, buffets & stores), Deck 8 (explorer lounge).

Interna supplied fixed and loose furniture, taking care of every little detail as to meet the requirements of a very demanding clientele, always in accordance with the highest quality standards and with the strict naval legislation regarding safety, health and fireproofing, creating also a special soundproofing for the theatre and cinemas areas.

Vista is the largest ship of the Carnival corporation fleet. With its 15 bridge, it offers a 360 degree sea view, plus unique entertainment and relaxation areas.

The agreement between Interna and Fincantieri envisaged the turnkey implementation of the Upper Promenade, Photo Gallery, Ocean Plaza, Shake Bar, Taste Bar, Fun Hub Café & Green Room, Red Frog Pub, Annex & Terrace, whose design was created by the German studio Partner Ship Design. Interna supplied floors, walls, ceilings and all the fixed and loose furnishings, as well as executive design services, installation and final testing.

P&O Britannia Monfalcone

Named by HM Queen Elizabeth II, the Britannia is an innovative vessel, characterized by a future-proof design approach for the lay out, the cutting edge performances and new security systems. Created for elite cruises, this luxurious ship has been shaped with the utmost attention to every single detail, both functional and aesthetic. For this ship Interna supplied, in less than six months, upon design of the British design studio Richmond International, the loose furniture for the Starburst Atrium, the Market Café, the Java Coffee Bar and the Limelight Club.

The refined and sophisticated areas show a smart mix of colours in neutral tones and an eclectic mix of materials that create a discreet luxury, never pretentious. The furniture and the chairs supplied by Interna, partly belonging to its collections for the hospitality sector, are 100% Made in Italy and present the highest quality standards.

Costa Diadema cruise ship presents, in its most prestigious areas, the work of Interna. The design, work of the American Maestro Joseph Farcus, historic name of the naval interior design with a long lasting connection with the Costa company, foresaw rich and sparkling environments, capable to involve all the senses and evoke strong emotions.

The contract between Fincantieri and Interna included a complete turnkey for the Aft Lounge, Piano Bar and 4D Cinema areas, with the implementation of floors and wall covering along with the production and installation of all loose and fixed furniture, lighting and artwork. To allow the guest to enter a dream dimension, Interna created impeccable inlayed floors, seatings with refined velvets and leathers, casegoods with an intriguing mix of wood, steel and marble and lighting systems with continuous plays of light for a constant transformation of the environment’s colours. All works have been carried out in respect of the highest quality standards as well as international naval rules on safety and health.

Costa Fascinosa, the fifth cruise ship delivered by Interna to Fincantieri, twin sister of Costa Favolosa, presents eclectic materials and very special finishes in compliance with rigid naval rules.

As for the sister ship, the fitting was carried out in four main areas: Aft Lounge, Dance Lounge, Piano Bar and Aft Atrium, all signed turnkey. The scope of work included executive planning, supply, installation and final testing of floors, walls, ceilings, millwork as well as supply of loose furniture, lamps, curtains, artwork and accessories.

The interior designer, the Miami based architect Joseph Farcus, envisaged different styles for the furniture, with various materials and finishes: marble and granite mosaics, inlays made of different wood essences, matches of different metals, many different colour schemes and decorations for fabrics and leathers, all enveloped by the computer-controlled led games.

Costa Favolosa, the fourth cruise ship delivered by Interna to Fincantieri, was designed by the Miami based architect Joseph Farcus. The eclectic furniture is a balanced mélange of materials and finishes: marble and granite mosaics, wood essences inlays, a number of metals, a range of colour schemes and decorations for fabrics and leathers, with the overlying theme of the computer-controlled led games.

Interna carried out the turnkey fit out of the Aft Lounge, Dance Lounge, Piano Bar and Aft Atrium, from executive planning to supply, installation and final testing of floors, walls, ceilings and millwork. Interna also supplied for the same areas loose furniture, lamps, curtains, artwork and accessories, all custom produced in compliance with the highest standards of quality and the rigid rules of the naval sector.

After having performed in 2008 for the Carnival Dream and in 2009 for the Azura, in 2010 Interna intensified its cooperation with the Fincantieri shipyards by supplying the furniture for the public areas of the Queen Elisabeth cruise ship, launched by Cunard. Interna supplied millwork and loose furnishings from floor to ceiling for the Queen’s & Princess Grill, the Queen’s Grill Lounge, the Courtyard Grill Terrace and the Yacht Club

P&O Azura Monfalcone Italy

The Azura, with a gross tonnage of 116,000 tons and a passenger capacity of 3.076 was built at the Monfalcone shipyards and Interna was called to execute the most sophisticated area, the huge Cabaret Lounge. The project comprised the implementation of turnkey works, a formula that included the executive planning, the supply of floors, walls, ceilings and furnishings (millwork and loose furniture), the assembling and the final testing. Through this project Interna, which entered the cruise liner sector in 2008 with the works done for the Carnival Dream built by Fincantieri, consolidated its presence in the naval field, a sector that is tightly bound to the professionalism and high quality standards of the Fincantieri shipyards.

Interna entered the sector of the naval fit out in 2008 with the works carried out for Fincantieri for the Carnival Dream. Such works included the whole fit out of the millwork of three public areas, Aft Lounge, Jazz Club And Piano Bar, for a total surface of 1,050 square meters.

The interiors have mosaic and marble floors, upholstered walls enriched with Venetian masks and curvilinear ceiling, illuminated by huge glass chandeliers.

The electronically managed illumination has been specially designed, in order to create suggestive light games, thus contributing to the creation of an eclectic oeuvre d’art, to involve passengers in a timeless dimension.

The Carnival Dream was a significant project allowing Interna to enter the world of the naval sector and to start a fruitful cooperation with Fincantieri.
