This unique excellence allows to bring breeders highquality sexed semen produced with an innovative technology and a very short times from semen collection and processing.
H OW DOES THE TECHNOLOGY WORKS ?
The most important discovery that allowed the development of the semen sexed technology is that X-chromosome-carrying sperm (female sperm) contains about 4% more DNA than Y-chromosome-carrying sperm (male sperm).
The cells are aligned and detection laser determines the sperm’s chromosome. By using specific molecules that cause fluorescence, the male sperm is distinguished from female sperm, which appears more brightly colored.
Once the Y-chromosome sperms (male) are identified, they are inactivated using a second laser that separates the sperm’s head from its tail, making them immobile and unable to fertilize.
The straws are filled both with female X (motile) and male Y (non-motile) sperms: this technology ensures less stress on the cells and a high-quality final product.
