Life after Headlam
Beds and bedroom SHIRE BEDS The BRAND Behind Your Brand VISIT AT JFS, HALL 5 B50
The industry has the stability it sought after £14.9m deal; when will retailers finally learn that the CMA will act? What were you doing on 13 September 2016? I ask as that was the day that Headlam began to unravel, which ultimately led to its collapse a decade later. On that day the group held a board meeting and the topic of strategy was discussed. The next day Tony Brewer’s departure was made public. He won’t like me writing this, but the group never recovered from the loss of its chief executive, or later, that of many senior, experienced managers. It also demonstrates that while promoting finance directors may work the first time, that’s where the limit is. Amid the headlines over Likewise’s £14.9m deal involving the Crucial Trading and Concept Floors businesses, and the Thatcham distribution centre, a key part is the agreement to sell off Headlam’s stock. Without this, the market would likely have seen a flood of cut-price products entering the industry as administrator Interpath sought to quickly raise funds and limit the cost of storing the inventory. While this would have impacted Likewise’s margins, it could have had far greater consequences for smaller wholesalers and eventually resulted in retailers having fewer buying options once the offers had run out. While some will lament the lack of bargains they may have anticipated, the nine-month agreement provides stability and access to products. If there was one thing that the industry agreed on at The Flooring Show, it was the desire for stability so plans could be developed. A desire for stability was also part of the reasoning for Wayfair’s cooperation with the CMA over its online sale activities. Wayfair is the latest company to feel the impact of the CMA’s displeasure, and it does make you wonder what sort of bubble management were operating in if they thought it would go unnoticed. The watchdog hasn’t been shy in taking action, and neither is it a new development, so you would have thought retailers would have learned the collective lesson long ago.

Likewise pays £14.9m for Headlam assets Likewise has paid £14.9m for the 90,000sqft Headlam freehold distribution centre at Thatcham, Berkshire; the Crucial Trading and Concept Floors businesses and more than 60 brand names, including Headlam. It has also agreed a nine-month deal with administrator Interpath to sell the failed distributor’s inventory, for which it has paid £2.3m. 110 employees will transfer to Likewise. Headlam employed about 1,300 staff at the time of Interpath’s appointment, with numbers having fallen by about 900 since 2025. Likewise will occupy Headlam’s former Coleshill The Crucial Trading head office during the business has been bought agency agreement. ‘The acquisition is a key milestone for the group as it now becomes the leading distributor of floorcoverings in the UK. The acquisition of the Thatcham distribution centre adds significant capacity to the growing Likewise distribution network, and the purchase of well-known brands together with the Crucial Trading and Concept Floors businesses are very welcome additions,’ says Tony Brewer, Likewise ceo.
The brand names purchased include: Bailey Carpets of Bristol; the Every range (Every Garden, Room and Underlay); Fells Carpets and Flooring; Florco; Georgian Carpets; Headlam; JHS; Lifestyle; MCD; Mercado and Wilkies. Interpath is anticipating imminent developments on the Melrose and Domus businesses, while exploring options for the remaining Headlam property and lease portfolio and the remaining 120 or so brand names. Headlam saw underlying pre-tax profits of £11m in 2023 become a loss of £39.5m in 2025, as sales dropped from £577.3m to £498.7m. Chris Payne was ousted as chief executive in October 2025 amid the increasing losses and complaints over service and the trade counter network. This spring, interim executive chairman Stephen Bird and other directors were attacked by major investor First Seagull as being unable to turn around the business’s fortunes and for presiding over an almost wipe-out of shareholder value as sales plunged. First Seagull had offered to become involved in fundraising for the group, but later sold its stake. Rob Barclay became chief executive in April as the group sought to raise funds through property disposals – it was unable to sell its Coleshill site due to banking covenants – and the group began a strategic review in July. On 1 September it said it would appoint Interpath by the end of that week unless its situation changed.
A great place again Bensons for Beds has been rated a Great Place To Work for the second consecutive year, after more than two-thirds of employees (69%) said it is. ‘That recognition reflects the people and culture at the heart of Bensons. Our colleagues make the difference for customers every day, helping them find the right sleep solutions and supporting our ambition to become a sleep wellness specialist. Thank you to everyone across Bensons who contributes to that experience, and to our leaders for the role they play in supporting their teams,’ says Carrie Westwell, Bensons for Beds chief people and culture officer. Job seekers are four-and-ahalf times more likely to find a great boss at a certified Great Place To Work company. Employees are 93% more likely to look forward to coming to work, and twice as likely to be paid fairly, earn a fair share of company profits and have a fair chance at promotion. Wayfair fined £4.8m for misleading online shoppers Wayfair has been fined £4.8m by the Competition and Markets Authority for misleading shoppers over sales. The CMA’s investigation found that products were advertised on Wayfair’s website through ‘Daily Deals’ and 24-hour ‘Flash Deals’, alongside messages such as ‘Here Today, Gone Tomorrow’ and countdown timers, implying customers needed to act quickly to get the best deal. However, the investigation found that many products remained available at the same price or lower after the stated deadline – so the time-limited offer was false. By stating these were one-day offers, people could have felt pressure to make a quick purchase so as not to lose out, it says. The etailer saw the fine reduced by 40% after ‘engaging constructively’ with the CMA and admitting to breaking the law and agreeing to settle the case early. ‘The time is up for this kind of behaviour. Businesses must treat their customers fairly and make sure they comply
with the law – or risk hefty fines. People should see genuine, accurate prices and offers. At a time when many households are carefully managing their budgets, people shouldn’t lose out because of misleading sales tactics,’ says Hayley Fletcher, CMA senior director for consumer protection. A spokeswoman for Wayfair described the fine as ‘excessive’ but said it took the findings seriously, and ‘chose to settle so that we can Wayfair’s fine was reduced by 40% for continue to focus on ‘engaging constructively’ with the CMA serving our customers’.
Flooring inflation hits three-year high… Flooring retail price inflation hit 6% in September: its highest rate for three years. The annual CPI flooring inflation rate has been steadily increasing over the past year, climbing from 0.2% a year ago, according to ONS data. September saw the rate jump from 5%. Carpets and rugs were behind the increase, with the rate rising from 4.8% to 6.4%. In contrast, smooths saw inflation ease from 6.6% to 2.6%. The highest flooring inflation over the past decade was in early 2023, when compound raw chemical shortages, shipping container freight costs and
manufacturing energy spikes across Europe saw the rate hit 12.3%. By that September it had fallen to 9.4%, and 5.7% in September 2023.
…as furniture inflation gains momentum Furniture retail price inflation also leapt again in September, and is gaining momentum. The annual CPI rate for household furniture jumped from 1% to 1.6% last month, firmly ending months of deflation or very low inflation. Since May, the rate in consecutive months has gone from
deflation of 0.8% to deflation of 1.5%, and inflation of 0.6%, 1% and 1.6%. Outdoor furniture maintained its semi-permanent link to deflation, with the rate dropping from 10.8% to 10.3%: September marked another 13 months of uninterrupted deflation. Lighting saw inflation hold steady at 0.1%, compared with an overall inflation rate of 3.5%, up from August’s 3.1%. Phones, smart speakers, headphones and portable audio players saw the highest rate of deflation at -15.1%. Domestic heating oil saw the highest inflation (104.5%), ahead of ebooks (57.%).

Rules Judges can make unusual decisions when it comes to inspections In 1999 the UK Courts introduced the Civil Procedure Rules. This is a set of guidelines for all those involved in civil proceedings, including independent experts, and there’s also the Criminal Procedure Rules, which cover criminal cases. Although furniture and flooring experts are mainly involved in civil proceedings, some disputes such as health and safety matters and trading standards issues may come under the latter rules. In all cases, my role is to report for the benefit of the court, even if only one of the parties has instructed me. If I show prejudice, I run the risk of the court sanctioning me as the case progresses, and the punishment could be far more serious than just disallowing my report. The rules also created the role of the Single Joint Expert, whose appointment is agreed by the court and whose fees are paid 50:50 by the two parties, and this is now very common in furniture and flooring disputes and results in most cases reaching a settlement and not going as far as a hearing. Not all, however. About a year ago I was contacted and asked to provide a quote to inspect a fitted kitchen for a consumer. A short while later I was contacted by the installer, and in due course I was appointed as the SJE to provide a report for the court where the case was to be heard. The details were on a court order, which gave the dates by which the parties had to confirm what they wanted me to consider and by which the inspection and report should be completed. The site was about an hour’s drive away, so I sent an email to both parties with a choice of dates for them to consider. The consumer responded immediately, agreeing to the first date on my list. I noted that he hadn’t copied in the
16
Interiors Monthly November 2026
The judge ruled the consumer and his wife were not to be at the inspection
installer, so I replied to both of them asking if the installer agreed to that date. The consumer responded again solely to me, to say he was not willing to allow the installer to attend the inspection. His reasoning was that the installer had been aggressive to his wife and had denied there was anything wrong, so he did not want him back. This created a serious dilemma for me, especially when the installer confirmed he was available and wanted to attend. The rules make clear that the expert should be independent and should not make decisions about a case that ought to be taken by the court. Buried in the detail is something that I had to fall back on in this case. I wrote formally to both of the parties telling them that if they could not agree between themselves, I would have no choice but to apply to the court so that the judge could decide who had the right to attend. Without this, I could have been accused of partiality by whichever party I overruled. The court system is badly overloaded and the deadlines set in the court order came and went long before the judge was able to respond to my application. The ruling surprised me a little: I was
expecting the judge to insist that the installer should attend but that I should have the right to exclude one or both parties in the event of a ‘scene’ arising. In fact, the judge ruled that the consumer was to be present to let me in and show me to the kitchen, but was then to vacate the premises completely until I had finished, together with his wife. Banned from his own home! Reading between the lines, I wondered how difficult the consumer had been over other issues with the court process and whether the judge was reflecting this in his decision. In some ways, I wish the inspection had gone ahead so I could have experienced such an interference-free visit. But the aim of the Civil Procedure Rules is to get a larger proportion of cases settled without going to a hearing, and shortly after the judge’s ruling and the agreement of a new inspection date, the two parties agreed a settlement. That’s usually the best outcome, and in this case I have no doubt it was. Visit: richard-renouf.com Richard Renouf is an independent furnishings consultant

SUSTAINABILITY Old MDF, HDF and laminate is used for recycling
First step
The Bazeilles recycling facility
MDF and HDF can be recycled into new panels: and the technology is available Unilin has become the first manufacturer to commercially launch MDF panels containing up to 25% recycled fibres, and has licensed the technology. The launch follows the commissioning of the new recycling plant in Bazeilles, northern France. Thanks to its patented Osiris technology, Unilin can recycle used MDF and HDF panels into high-quality wood fibres for new panels. The plant has an annual capacity of 70,000 tonnes of recycled wood fibres and is estimated to postpone 130,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year. Until recently, discarded MDF and HDF panels were incinerated or sent to landfill. Now they can be given a second life, keeping CO2 stored in the wood for longer, while giving valuable raw materials a new purpose. ‘What seemed impossible for years is now a reality. By processing used MDF and HDF again, we significantly extend the life cycle of wood fibres. This gives new trees the opportunity to grow and to store CO2, while reducing our dependence on virgin raw materials. It is a technology that delivers environmental benefits without compromising the economics,’ says Geert Coudenys, Unilin Panels R&D director. ‘We believe this breakthrough will help not only our company but the entire industry move forward. The major
18
Interiors Monthly November 2026
challenge now is to establish separate wood waste streams. That requires collaboration across the entire value chain, from collectors to processors and manufacturers. Only by working together can we accelerate the transition to a circular industry,’ says Bert Vandenkendelaere, Unilin Panels president. Osiris saw Unilin crack a challenge the industry had been trying to solve for decades. The technology separates wood fibres without breaking them. MDF waste is first defibrated using steam and then purified. This keeps the fibres intact and suitable for use in the existing MDF and HDF production process. The main challenge was removing impurities while ensuring that the recovered fibres achieve the same quality as virgin fibres. Testing confirmed that the recycled MDF wood fibres meet the same performance standards as virgin fibres, with no compromise on mechanical strength. ‘With the invention of Osiris in 2021, we achieved a world-first breakthrough. Over the past few years, we have continued to refine the technology on an industrial pilot line, and the world’s first full-scale MDF and HDF recycling plant has now been operational for a year. It is a turning point for our site and for the industry as a whole,’ says Julien Boucher, Bazeilles plant manager.
As it did with the click system for laminate flooring in the 1990s, Unilin is licensing the Osiris technology. The project was co-funded by the French government as part of France 2030, managed by ADEME, with financial support from La Région Grand Est. Visit: unilin.com

Evoke has added the top floor to the store for the concept
Evoke has opened the first next125 concept store in Ireland Evoke Kitchens has opened the first next125 concept store in Ireland. Evoke, which has worked with the German kitchen brand since 2017, has expanded its Waterford store by a third for the debut. To many, Dublin would seem the obvious location for a new store format, but Declan Furlong, Evoke md saw strength in staying at home. ‘We’ve spent 12 years building our business here and already work with customers from a wide area, from

Dublin and the Midlands through to Cork. We didn’t see any reason why a design destination of this calibre had to be in the capital. The ambition now is building a national presence. We want to give customers, architects and interior designers from across Ireland a reason to come to Waterford to experience next125 in a new environment.’ As well as kitchens, Evoke sells dining and living room furniture, lighting and bathroom furniture.
The new 2,700sqft floor features six kitchens across 10 design areas. The customer journey begins within the Evoke showroom – which continues to display next125 and Schüller kitchens – with a dedicated next125 entrance. From there, a concealed doorway leads into a darker, more atmospheric stairway where next125 imagery and lighting guide visitors upwards. For Furlong, the new store responds to a wider change in how

customers approach kitchen design. ‘People increasingly look at the kitchen as part of the furniture and architecture of their home, rather than simply somewhere to prepare meals. They are much more aware of materials, proportion and design, but the kitchen still has to work brilliantly for everyday life,’ he says. ‘Consumers arrive increasingly informed and visually literate, often after researching interiors and design online. This makes the physical showroom more important rather than less. A premium kitchen is tactile and spatial. Customers need to see materials at scale,
understand proportions, open cabinetry, experience internal systems and compare finishes in a real environment. ‘The way you move through the space is very important. It is designed as a journey, with each kitchen having its own identity as it is gradually revealed. We wanted enough difference between the displays to show the breadth of what next125 can do. There are natural timbers, veneers and lighter earthy tones, but also stronger colours and some of the more statement-led finishes.’ The layout was developed in close collaboration with next125’s design team. ‘They listened to everything we

said from the very first meeting and asked what we wanted the overarching theme of the showroom to be. By the second version, the layout was almost exactly where we wanted it, which says a lot about how collaborative the process was. From there, we were able to focus on the individual displays, materials and finer details.’ next125’s EuroCucina introductions in April have shaped the extension. ‘We selected the premium finishes and design details because they are a major part of what the brand offers. We wanted next125 Waterford to give customers plenty of ideas they may not previously have considered and show just how far the product can be taken.’ The impact of the new format is being felt across the wider business. While Evoke has always placed great importance on the customer experience, the standard set upstairs has inspired the team to look again at the two existing floors and consider how they can elevate these spaces even further. ‘Once we said yes, it brought back the excitement we had when we opened 12 years ago. It’s the biggest thing we’ve done since then, and it has given the whole of Evoke a new lease of life.’ Visit: evokekitchens.ie

Changing the conversation Service and European production are high on Chris Atkinson’s agenda If you have tasks you’ve been putting off or haven’t had time for, get in touch with Chris Atkinson. As the saying goes: If you want something done, ask a busy person, and as Incanto/Sofitalia UK sales director, Atkinson is certainly busy. First on his agenda is the topic of service – sometimes a thorny issue for Italian upholstery producers, be it in

reality or perception – as part of his effort to develop retailer relationships. Convincing buyers that European production has a key part in their plans is important, and that’s before product is mentioned. As befits someone with more than quarter of a century in furniture and bed retailing and manufacturing (including ScS, Barker and Stonehouse, Julian Bowen, Highgrove Beds and HTL, where he was UK country manager for two years), Atkinson is upbeat about the role and its challenges. ‘I saw real potential to build on the brand’s strengths, develop relationships with retail partners and help drive its growth in the UK market. It combines Italian design, quality craftsmanship and a strong understanding of what today’s furniture retailers and consumers are looking for,’ he says.
‘One of my key priorities is to challenge the perception that customer service from Italian furniture manufacturers can sometimes fall short of the expectations of UK retailers. Great design and quality products must be supported by an equally strong after-sales service. Incanto/ Sofitalia has given me full responsibility for customer service, allowing me to put clear processes and expectations in place.’ One of his first actions was to introduce a minimum service level agreement, for all stockists, setting out the standards they can expect, which is designed to create greater clarity, consistency and accountability throughout the customer journey. ‘It is about changing the conversation. We want our retail partners to have confidence not only in the products they are selling but the support they receive

from us. Italian design and craftsmanship are important differentiators, but reliability, communication and delivering on our promises are just as vital. My ambition is to demonstrate that Incanto/ Sofitalia can deliver on all these fronts and build long-term partnerships based on trust and performance.’ Atkinson wants a more collaborative approach, where retailer and manufacturer understand each other and benefit from each other’s skills. ‘A key change is to place the retailer relationship at the heart of everything we do. I want to move towards a more proactive and structured approach, with clearer communication, greater accountability and a stronger understanding of the challenges retailers face in today’s market. The introduction of a minimum service level agreement is an important first step, establishing clear expectations and giving our partners greater confidence in the support they can expect from us. ‘I also want to encourage a more collaborative approach to product development, using feedback from retailers to help ensure our collections remain relevant, commercially attractive and competitive. Product development also needs to be commercially driven. It is not simply about introducing something new, it is about understanding what retailers need to sell successfully in their showrooms and what consumers are looking for in their homes. Listening to our retail partners and responding to their feedback will therefore be
an important part of our approach. Ultimately, our success depends on our partners being successful. ‘For me, this is about more than making incremental changes: it is about building a culture where promises are kept, issues are addressed quickly and relationships are developed for the long term. Italian design and craftsmanship give us a strong foundation, but I believe it is the overall experience we deliver that will truly differentiate Incanto/ Sofitalia in the UK market.’ The aim is to be proactive, with the Matera, Basilicata factory taking the shared message to southern Italy. ‘My approach is to work collaboratively with the factory to identify any recurring issues, understand their root causes and ensure that feedback from our UK retail partners is translated into meaningful
improvements. Rather than simply dealing with problems once they reach the customer, the objective should be to prevent them from happening in the first place. Transparency and accountability are essential. Where improvements are needed, we must be prepared to address them openly and put clear processes in place to monitor progress. My wider focus on introducing minimum service standards reflects this same philosophy: setting clear expectations and delivering consistently against them. ‘It is about creating a culture of continuous improvement throughout the business. My aim is to ensure that the quality customers see in our products is matched by the reliability and professionalism they experience when buying and selling the Incanto/ Sofitalia brands.’

This, says Atkinson, will allow the company to make the most of being nearer its customers. ‘The UK upholstery market has a real opportunity to put European manufacturing back at the forefront. For too long, the focus has often been heavily weighted towards buying on price. Retailers are increasingly recognising the wider benefits of European production, particularly when it comes to lead times, craftsmanship, quality control and the ability to respond more quickly to changing consumer demands. ‘Manufacturing closer to the UK market can offer a significant advantage. Shorter supply chains can help reduce lead times and give retailers greater confidence when planning stock, managing customer expectations and responding to demand. Combined with Italian design heritage, skilled craftsmanship and a strong focus on product finishing, European upholstery offers a compelling proposition for retailers looking to differentiate themselves. ‘This is where I believe Incanto/ Sofitalia has an important role to play. We can offer the style and design associated with Italian upholstery, alongside the practical advantages of European manufacturing and a more responsive approach to customer service. There is a strong case for retailers to look beyond the initial purchase price and consider the overall value of the product, the supply chain and the support behind it. ‘I want to help retailers recognise that European manufacturing is not simply an alternative, it can be a genuine competitive advantage. By combining quality, design, shorter lead times and dependable service, Incanto/Sofitalia can offer UK retailers a proposition

built around both the product they sell and the confidence they need to grow their businesses. ‘In the short term, our focus is on continuing to evolve the collection, bringing fresh designs and finishes to the market while building on the brand’s Italian design heritage and reputation for comfort. We want to offer retailers a compelling mix of contemporary styling, distinctive upholstery and versatile designs that appeal to a broad range of consumers with an emphasis on materials, upholstery options and the details that give each model its own identity. ‘As part of that the Incanto Gallery
concept gives consumers a more engaging experience helping them explore the range in an inspiring setting and understand what makes Incanto distinctive. Just as importantly, the gallery is built around partnership. It gives our retail partners a strong platform to showcase the collection, supports the story they tell to their customers and helps us work together to grow the brand. It is not simply about a display, it is about creating a closer relationship with our retailers and investing in a showroom experience that benefits both the retailer and the customer.’ Visit: incantoitalia.com

TAKING RESPONSIBILITY Incanto recently completed the SMETA audit, demonstrating its commitment to responsible business practices across its supply chain. ‘This is increasingly important to UK retailers, who need confidence not only in the quality and design of the products they sell but also in the standards and practices behind them,’ says Atkinson. ‘The audit covers labour standards, health and safety, environmental performance and business ethics, providing an important framework for assessing our practices and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.’

Make a splash NatureSense provides 24 or 72 hours of water resistance Combining design with dependable water protection, NatureSense Aqua and NatureSense Aqua+ are the water-resistant flooring options in Egger’s NatureSense range. Whether used in a bathroom, kitchen or living area, the waterresistant flooring can handle busy life. Both products use the Aqua CLIC it! installation system that prevents moisture from penetrating the boards, giving consumers peace of mind. Straightforward installation is key, and the interlocking click mechanism allows for secure and simple fitting without need for adhesives. An all-rounder that keeps up with the demands of daily life, NatureSense Aqua is suitable for any room in the home, including bathrooms and kitchens, thanks to its 24-hour water resistance. Featuring a robust surface, it is available in 132 tile and woodgrain decors. Suitable for residential and commercial spaces, Nature Sense Aqua+ flooring offers 72-hours of water resistance. Its low-swell core board combined with the Aqua CLIC it! system provides double water protection, making the flooring ideal for rooms with heavy use and increased cleaning requirements. Available in 32 decors, it offers an alternative to tiles and is suitable for home bathrooms and kitchens, hotel lobbies and offices. The Egger Flooring Collection 25+ has been designed with modern living in mind and offers an extensive selection of durable, scratch-resistant floors that are also stain resistant, dirt repellent and easy to clean. Light resistant, impact and sound insulating properties, as well as a non-slip surface, ensure the collection delivers comfort and functionality. It is also compatible with underfloor heating systems. Many Egger flooring decors have a unique surface texture that mimics the look and feel of natural wood or stone, giving interiors an authentic character. Synchronised pore technology allows the texture to exactly match the visual grain to create a realistic finish. Six different board sizes mean the floor can be optimised to suit the application. Bigger board formats including kingsize, long and large accentuate spacious rooms, whereas classic or medium formats help to create a sense of space in smaller rooms. In addition, the herringbone board format is ideal for creating classic and traditional charm. Visit: egger.com

WOOD AND LAMINATE
Warp attack Moisture can play havoc with wood floors, including failure Excess subfloor moisture poses a particular threat to the appearance of wood flooring installations, and so using a moisture management solution is vitally important. ‘Achieving a long-lasting, attractive finish with timber floorcoverings demands the same basic principles of installation are followed as for other types of floorcovering. However, wood is even more susceptible than textile or resilient floorcoverings to damage from moisture,’ says Tim Green, F Ball training manager. If unmanaged, excess subfloor moisture, the result of rising damp or residual construction moisture, will cause wood to warp and attack adhesives, potentially resulting in the floorcovering cupping or buckling and, ultimately, failing. Safeguarding against excess subfloor moisture is an essential step. In addition to ensuring a subfloor is suitably sound, smooth and free of any contaminants, including any old adhesive residues, it is vital to undertake a moisture test to establish if the subfloor is dry enough to receive flooring. The only way of measuring subfloor Relative Humidity (RH) levels with accuracy, which is advocated by British Standards, is using a calibrated digital hygrometer. ‘Normally, a liquid waterproof surface membrane will be required to suppress excess subfloor moisture and prevent damage to flooring when RH levels are above 75%. However, the maximum permitted figure is 65% where wood floorcoverings will be installed because of the sensitivity of this type of flooring to moisture,’ says Green. F Ball offers two timesaving options for when a moisture management solution is required. Stopgap F77 waterproof surface membrane is a two-part epoxy resin system, applied in a single coat. It can fully cure in three hours and will isolate rising damp or residual construction moisture where RH values are up to 98%. ‘For an even quicker way to create a barrier against residual construction moisture where RH values are up to 95%, there is Stopgap F78, a one-component
32
Interiors Monthly November 2026
Excess subfloor moisture poses a particular threat to the appearance of wood flooring
system applied in two coats, requiring 15–20 minutes curing time for the first and a further 30 minutes for the second. ‘After checking for subfloor moisture and deploying a moisture management solution where necessary, a smoothing compound can be applied to ensure a perfectly smooth base for the receipt of floorcoverings, remembering to prime the subfloor beforehand. We usually recommend a heavy-duty smoothing compound, such as Stopgap 300, prior to installation of wood floorcoverings, because they can better withstand the added strain exerted by the natural movement of the wood.’
A specialist wood adhesive must be used to install wood blocks or planks. ‘Utilising the latest technology, flexible wood floor adhesives, such as Styccobond B95, provide an elastic but strong bond, which will accommodate natural movement of wood flooring over its lifetime, ensuring a long-lasting, visually attractive floor finish. ‘If anyone has any questions about installing wood floorcoverings, or any other kinds of flooring installation, F Ball’s technical service department is on hand Monday to Friday, 8.30am–5pm to advise.’ Visit: f-ball.com

Federation executive director. ‘We are truly grateful for the support of all our organising partners and our generous sponsors: Adjust-A-Bed, Dura Beds, Harrison Spinks, Hypnos, John Cotton Nonwovens, L&P Springs UK, Sealy UK, Silentnight and guest exhibitor Mattressgard.’ Mike Brown, Dreamland owner says that ‘people and the friendliness of the bedding industry’ is why he still loves coming to the Bed Show after five decades in business. ‘I love the Bed Show. Every year it’s great to catch up with suppliers and other retailers, and to see new products. It’s always an exciting part of the year,’ says James Dunne, Prestige Beds director of operations. The show also hosts the NBF Bed Industry Awards, and after the drinks reception at the highly anticipated gala dinner and awards ceremony, broadcaster Clare Balding revealed this year’s industry stars to over 400 guests.
Dreamland won Small NBF Retail Champion of the Year, and said winning in its 50th year ‘recognises far more than what happens inside our showroom. It recognises the way we approach the business as a whole, from our people and relationships with suppliers, to the service we give customers and the role we play in our community.’ Prestige Beds took home the NBF Retail Champion of the Year trophy, recognising ‘a year of growth, investment, community support and hard work’. ‘It reflects the dedication of our team and our continued commitment to giving every customer expert advice and personal service,’ says Dunne. MattressOnline says its win in the ‘exceptionally close’ Online Bed Retailer of the Year category ‘showcases the hard work of our entire team who put helping people find the best night’s sleep at the heart of everything they do. To be recognised by the NBF, the voice of our industry, tells us we’re getting that right.’

For Dreams, ‘clear winner’ of National Bed Retailer of the Year, the accolade ‘celebrates a year of strong progress, from investing in our colleagues and customers to supporting NBF member brands, UK manufacturing and more sustainable practices.’ Harrison Spinks’ Clover 3000 mattress was crowned Bed Product of the Year, lauded by the judges as ‘a great-feeling mattress at a very commercial price point, maintaining a high spec and many of the typical Harrison Spinks features.’ Carpenter took Component Product of the Year for its Serene Soft Foam: ‘a plush feel and immediate comfort response at virtually any temperature.’
The industry’s most vertically integrated brand, Harrison Spinks, again retained its Bed Manufacturer of the Year, just beating Adjust-A-Bed, which was highly commended. Silentnight and Sleepeezee were finalists in a closely fought category. ‘We remain committed to investing in what makes us different: our people, innovation, sustainability, craftsmanship and retail partnerships. It is this continued commitment that enables us to keep pushing boundaries and creating luxury beds that are genuinely unique,’ says Harrison Spinks. Supplier of the Year John Cotton Nonwovens says its win ‘reflects the commitment of our whole team to
innovation, quality, sustainability and, above all, supporting our customers. As a long-standing member of the UK bed industry, recognition from the NBF and our industry peers reinforces our commitment to continually investing in the future of UK manufacturing.’ The finalists were Enkev UK and Spinks. ‘Our congratulations all the winners and finalists and thank you to everyone who entered this year. The standard continues to rise, so keep up the great work, and we may see you on the shortlist next year,’ says Hargreaves. Next year’s Bed Show takes place from 21-22 September. Visit: bedshow.co.uk

Perfect platform
Bed Show saw the refreshed Ortho debut
Sleepeezee debuted five ranges designed for The Rest of Your Life Bed Show provided the perfect platform for Sleepeezee to unveil its latest collections and bring its evolving brand vision to life. Attracting significant attention from retailers, visitors and industry experts, Sleepeezee’s stand showcased the brand’s continued commitment to craftsmanship, innovation and style. The event also provided an opportunity to continue to display Sleepeezee’s brand proposition, The Rest of Your Life, demonstrating how the brand is evolving while remaining true to the quality, expertise and heritage that have defined Sleepeezee for generations. Five collections launched at the show, including a newly refreshed Ortho range with enhanced spring counts and firmer support, priced at Sleepeezee’s entry point, designed to offer exceptional value for money without compromising on quality, and a memory collection featuring Serene foam, designed to offer a more sumptuous comfort. Serene foam has a cloud-like soft feel of memory foam but provides improved airflow thanks to microscopic air capsules throughout its design, helping to combat overheating. Serene is not affected by heat, unlike traditional memory foam, so offers a more consistent overall performance and immediately responds to your body shape as you sleep for enhanced comfort.

Tranquil Luxury garnered a lot of positive attention at the show. It features responsive layers of latex and is finished with an internal tufted construction, providing a smooth and soft sleep surface. The internal tufts help keep all of the comfort layers in place, meaning no glue has to be used, helping to ensure the mattress can easily be broken down and recycled at the end of life. Alongside were two new etail specific ranges, as well as new headboards that
offer more design choice for consumers. ‘We were really pleased with amazing feedback from our retail partners to our new collections. We were also proud to be a finalist in the Bed Manufacturer of the Year award – demonstrating our commitment to crafting quality handmade products, and striving to always do right by our people, planet and customers,’ says Amy Curtis, Sleepeezee marketing director. Somnus is inspired by almost 200 years of bedmaking
Harrison Spinks continues to push the boundaries of natural comfort With more than 185 years of British bedmaking heritage, Harrison Spinks continues to push the boundaries of natural comfort, combining generations of traditional craftsmanship with pioneering innovation. At the forefront of Harrison Spinks’ latest innovations is WoolKind, an exclusive mattress fabric that represents another significant step forward in natural sleep. As the only UK bedmaker to weave its own mattress fabric, the company has drawn upon Yorkshire’s rich textile heritage to create something truly unique. Woven in-house using a high wool content, WoolKind is soft, breathable and naturally fire retardant, without the need for additional fireretardant chemical treatments. The result is a luxurious sleep surface that’s kinder to both people and the planet, reinforcing the company’s commitment to responsible bedmaking. The new Somnus Collection celebrates the traditional skills, natural materials and craftsmanship that have defined Harrison Spinks for generations. The collection brings together the finest natural fillings, including luxurious Wensleydale wool from the Harrison Spinks farm, fully traceable British horsehair and sumptuous alpaca. Next chapter Dura Beds has new leadership, products and ambitions Full family ownership, a fresh commercial vision and NBF finalist recognition put product development and retail partnership at the centre of Dura Beds’ next chapter. A mattress earns its place on the showroom floor twice: first by catching the customer’s attention, then by giving the salesperson a convincing story to tell. Dura Beds’ latest developments are designed to address both sides of that equation, combining a more distinctive product offer with an ambition to help retailers present and sell it effectively. Following Imran Akhtar’s ownership, Dura Beds has entered a new chapter under full family control. ‘Priorities span manufacturing, logistics, customer service and product development, with continuous investment and long-term customer partnerships central to the vision,’ he says. Grange House Natural Fusion provides a tangible expression of that ambition. Its flagship Elevation 4000 secured finalist recognition in the Bed Industry Awards Bed Product of the Year category, placing the mattress among the industry’s top developments. ‘For retailers, however, the collection’s appeal begins with what customers can see, feel and understand. Across four progressively specified models, Natural Fusion brings together plantbased fillings and contemporary comfort technology. The Elevation’s box-top construction, viscose sleeping surface and refined detailing establish its premium character before the customer even lies down,’ says Paul Mason, Dura Beds sales director.

Future development is being shaped around changing consumer expectations, with comfort, appearance and the way retailers introduce products all receiving attention. The implication for stockists is clear: the launch story should arrive alongside the mattress, giving teams the knowledge and resources to present it confidently. If we can help our retail partners grow, we’ll continue to grow alongside them. ‘New collections must earn attention, justify showroom space and support the retailer’s business. Ambition
Hybrid mattresses have demonstrated Shire’s willingness to evolve
Shire Beds is growing and helping its retail partners Innovation, commercial growth and international ambition put Shire Beds in the spotlight at this year’s Bed Show. For Fara Butt, Shire Beds director, the exhibition was an opportunity to demonstrate how far the family-owned West Yorkshire manufacturing business has come: and where she intends to take it next. The business is growing its market share and enabling independent retailers to compete, differentiate and thrive. Shire’s Bed Show presence reflected that momentum. Its expanding portfolio showcased the company’s commitment to product development, combining contemporary design, considered specifications and value-led comfort. New launches, including the Sorrento and Neru ranges, alongside innovations in hybrid mattresses featuring materials such as copper, bamboo and Tencel, demonstrated Shire’s willingness to evolve with the market while retaining the manufacturing expertise that underpins the Shire name. Butt understands that independent retailers need more than a competitive product: they need a point of difference. Through Shire’s own-label proposition, the company works with retailers to develop personalised mattress collections supported by tailored marketing materials and point-of-sale solutions.

With more than 200 own brands developed for independent retailers, Shire has built a compelling proposition around helping customers strengthen their own identities and reputations. Its Your Brand, Your Legacy, Our Innovation philosophy captures this approach, underpinned by Shire’s positioning as ‘The Brand Behind Your Brand’. Rather than competing for the consumer’s attention under its own name, Shire helps its retail partners build businesses that stand out in a crowded marketplace. This has seen Shire grow sales by more than 50% in 18 months, reflecting a business investing in its products, people and production capabilities, attracting higher-end customers and strengthening its position in the market. The former NBF president has championed the industry’s strategic priorities and the importance of building a resilient, innovative and future-ready sector. She is an influential voice for manufacturing across West Yorkshire, promoting collaboration, skills development and investment. Her commitment to supporting women in business and manufacturing demonstrates a leadership style that combines commercial determination with an ambition to create opportunities for others. For her, success is about more than growing one company: it
is about demonstrating what British manufacturing can achieve when investment, innovation and ambition work hand in hand. ‘As Shire embarks on its next phase of development, with increasingly ambitious international plans, I am focused on building on that success. My approach combines a clear understanding of customers with the confidence to invest, innovate and explore new markets. In an industry where heritage matters, I am showing that British manufacturing can honour its traditions while confidently embracing the future. Through Shire, I am building not just a growing business, but a stronger proposition for Shire’s retail partners and a compelling example of what ambitious British manufacturing can achieve,’ she says. Serene moments Billions of microscopic air capsules for a unique and luxurious feel brought industry recognition ‘We were delighted by the success of Bed Show. It was wonderful to meet both existing and new customers and share our latest innovations in foam technology and product design, which generated great interest and excitement throughout the event,’ says Gillian Finch, Carpenter national sales manager. ‘A particular highlight was Serene Soft Foam, which received industry recognition by winning the BIA Best Component Product of the Year award, further demonstrating its outstanding comfort and performance. The award is a reflection of the people behind Carpenter. From our production teams and research and development specialists to customer service, logistics and sales, every team member has played a part in helping us achieve this success. We are extremely proud of what the team has accomplished and what we continue to achieve together.’ Engineered to deliver exceptional comfort and support, the appeal of Serene Soft Foam lies in its unique and luxurious feel. Enhanced with billions of microscopic air capsules, it gently cradles the body, improves support levels and helps relieve pressure on sensitive areas. Unlike traditional memory foam,
it is not temperature sensitive, and it also minimises motion transfer. ‘We have introduced several new products over the past year, including Aurora+, our graphite-infused foam, which naturally dissipates heat for enhanced cooling performance, and Serene Firm Foam. We have also expanded the Podz Foam Spring range to include a Pocket foam spring, an innovative comfort technology that delivers the performance and feel of a metal pocket spring unit while offering built-in, edge-to-edge support. Plus, these clever foam springs are fully recyclable, making mattress disposal simple and sustainable. ‘Our mattress collections showcased our product innovation. Our adhesivefree Click range featured comfort that is smart, sustainable and supportive, with the next generation of sleep innovation thanks to the ergonomic layers that click together.’ Developed for those who value staying cool and comfortable throughout the night, the Cooling Collection features Aurora Foam and memory foam, engineered to promote better airflow, while the Luxury Mattress includes a layer of Aurora+ graphite-infused foam, which

Botanical introduces another dimension to natural comfort
Growing together
Campbell and Armstrong at Bed Show
Natural comfort and distinctive product stories combine with Heritage Wools and Botanical ‘Growth starts with understanding what customers need: the right materials, practical support and a partner who takes an active interest in their success. For Enkev, strengthening our UK team and expanding our natural material offering reflect the same commitment: helping customers develop products that perform and collections that sell,’ says Chris Francis, Enkev UK md. ‘We have welcomed Nick Campbell as UK sales manager to support our continued growth and work alongside UK mattress and upholstery manufacturers as they develop and refine their collections. Nick brings more than 10 years of mattress industry experience and familiarity with UK manufacturers. Just a few weeks into his role, his enthusiasm is already evident. ‘Working closely with the UK team, Nick will help customers explore material options, advance development projects and identify opportunities for their collections. His appointment increases the team’s capacity to provide practical support, from initial discussions through sampling and development. Planned visits to our production sites will further deepen his understanding of its materials and manufacturing capabilities, while connecting him with colleagues across the business. For UK customers, this means greater access to practical

support and expertise to help turn new ideas into successful products.’ Enkev’s Heritage Wools and Botanical collections combine natural comfort with distinctive product stories. Heritage Wools connects the character and provenance of selected wools with the needs of contemporary mattress design. The collection provides opportunities to explore softness, moisture management and resilience while communicating the origins of the materials inside their products. Botanical introduces another dimension to natural comfort, bringing together organic cotton and wool with selected botanical fibres, including lavender, daisy, buttercup and dandelion. These combinations offer fresh inspiration when looking to give collections a distinctive identity. ‘Alongside our established natural fillings, these developments provide more ways to respond to customer preferences and create meaningful differences between product ranges. New products are most valuable when customers can use them successfully. We combine material knowledge with practical development support, helping companies assess how natural fillings can contribute to comfort, construction and commercial positioning,’ says Francis.
‘Our focus is on making progress together: supporting current programmes, exploring new ideas and building relationships that create lasting value. Commitment builds confidence. Confidence builds trust. And trust creates opportunities for shared growth. For Enkev UK, that commitment takes shape through a growing team, new material possibilities and continued support for the customers we serve.’ Visit: enkev.com
ENKEV: A BIA SUPPLIER OF THE YEAR FINALIST ‘Congratulations to all the BIA winners and finalists. Coming together Combining capabilities, technologies and partnerships can create value throughout the manufacturing process In a market where companies face increasing pressure to improve efficiency, control costs and respond more quickly to changing demand, operational excellence is about more than supplying components: it is about bringing together the right capabilities, technologies and partnerships to create value throughout the entire manufacturing process. Its fully operational foam-encasement capability demonstrates Leggett & Platt Springs UK’s approach. With the technology installed, commissioned and producing customer-ready units, it combines proven innerspring expertise with precision-engineered foam components to supply integrated, foam-encased systems from a single UK manufacturing source. Working in close collaboration with Kayfoam, Leggett & Platt Springs UK’s strategic foam capability partner, it brings together foam technologies and its own innerspring systems within one coordinated solution. The result is a versatile platform for developing foam-encased products tailored to specific comfort, performance and commercial requirements. This is not a future ambition or development concept: the process has been implemented, products are being manufactured, and customers are recognising the quality, consistency and value these assemblies deliver. The benefits extend beyond product performance. By integrating spring and foam delivery into a finished
54
Interiors Monthly November 2026
or semi-finished assembly, separate component handling is reduced, purchasing and administration simplified and transportation, warehousing and inventory requirements lowered. Foamencased units can also be compressed, folded and rolled, improving packability, shipping efficiency and space utilisation. This capability reinforces L&P’s role as a supply-chain partner. Rather than requiring customers to source, coordinate and assemble multiple materials independently, it can undertake more of the manufacturing process before the product reaches customers’ facilities. The result is fewer inputs to manage, reduced handling on the production floor and a more efficient manufacturing journey.
Foam encasement also strengthens the compnay’s broader value-added offering, which includes semi-finished spring and foam combinations, insulator application, micro-coil lamination and compressed hybrid assemblies. Together, these solutions help manufacturers improve efficiency, increase consistency and streamline production operations. Backed by continued investment in technology, manufacturing capability and strategic partnerships, Leggett & Platt Springs UK continues to strengthen its position as a responsive, collaborative supply-chain partner, transforming material expertise and manufacturing capability into practical operational advantage. Comfort, consistently Encore was developed with one simple goal: to create cushions that feel exceptional and continue to perform Comfort is easy to talk about. Getting it right, consistently, is something else entirely. Fibreline developed Encore with one simple goal: to create cushions that feel exceptional and continue to perform long after they leave the production line. By combining carefully selected foam, fibre and feather constructions, Encore provides the freedom to create a wide range of comfort experiences without compromising on quality or consistency. Encore cushions are the result of considered engineering and controlled manufacturing. From carefully measured fill weights to precise construction, attention to detail is built into every stage of the process. This helps cushions retain their shape, feel and visual appeal, giving the finished furniture a level of comfort that customers can experience every time they sit down. The real strength of Encore lies in its ability to adapt. Different furniture styles call for different levels of softness, support and resilience, and there is no single solution that works for every application. Encore brings together the distinctive qualities of its individual

fillings to create cushion constructions suited to different requirements. Feather can provide the familiar feeling of softness and luxury; foam brings structure, support and resilience, and fibre can add loft and a softer, more inviting feel. By combining these characteristics, Encore offers a practical way to achieve the comfort profile each collection needs. However, Encore isn’t just about what the cushion feels like on day one: it is about how it continues to perform. Consistent construction and controlled
filling help provide dependable results across production volumes, giving manufacturers greater confidence in both the process and the finished product. Whether creating a statement sofa, developing a new collection or looking for a dependable cushion solution across a wider range, Encore has been developed to give the flexibility to build comfort around individual designs. The best cushions do more than feel comfortable: they support the look and performance of the furniture around them. Visit: fibreline-ltd.co.uk

Listening Bed Show provided valuable feedback ‘Bed Show has always been an opportunity for the industry to come together, explore new products and discuss the direction of the market. For Ordorite, this year’s event was also a valuable reminder that innovation in bed retail extends well beyond the products on the showroom floor,’ says Stephen Connolly, Ordorite ceo. ‘It was a pleasure for the Ordorite team to catch up with existing customers, hear how their businesses are evolving and gather direct feedback on the technology supporting their dayto-day operations. Just as encouraging were conversations with retailers exploring a move away from ageing or disconnected systems towards something more intuitive, innovative and better suited to their needs. ‘Those discussions highlighted a recurring theme: retailers are looking for technology that makes running their businesses easier, not more complicated. ‘Bed and mattress retail presents its own operational challenges. Product variations, supplier ordering, stock availability, customer deposits and delivery scheduling all need to work together, often across multiple stores and warehouses. When information is scattered across different systems,
58
Interiors Monthly November 2026
the administrative burden grows and staff can spend too much time searching for answers.’ Ordorite was built specifically for furniture and bed retail to address these challenges. Its integrated platform connects point of sale, purchasing, inventory, warehouse management, delivery and reporting, providing a clearer view of the entire retail operation. ‘At Bed Show, the team was particularly pleased by the positive response to recently introduced product features and developments. For us, that feedback is more than welcome recognition: it is a key part of how the platform continues to evolve. New functionality is shaped by what customers need in practice, helping retailers reduce unnecessary steps, improve visibility and support better decision-making. ‘Technology is changing quickly, and AI is opening up new possibilities for how retailers work with their business information. Through ongoing platform development, Ordorite is focused on making powerful capabilities genuinely useful to the people who rely on them, whether on the sales floor or behind the scenes. There is more to come, too. With further enhancements in development, the team remains committed to investing
in features that respond to the industry’s changing demands, rather than innovation for its own sake. ‘The conversations at Bed Show reinforced something important: the best technology partnerships involve listening as much as developing. Our thanks to everyone who took the time to visit and share their experiences. ‘The team will be exhibiting at January Furniture Show and is looking forward to continuing those conversations with retailers planning their next chapter. In a competitive market, the right products matter, and so does the technology that helps retailers sell and deliver them well.’ Visit: ordorite.com

Building confidence Staingard is looking to combine technology with personal service For today’s furniture retailer, the customer relationship is about more than the initial purchase: consumers can want reassurance that their investment is protected, while retailers are increasingly looking for ways to add value, generate additional revenue and deliver a positive customer experience. ‘This is where Staingard has an important role to play. Staingard offers a comprehensive range of care plans and care products, helping retailers make care and protection an integral part of the sales journey. By providing customers with practical solutions to care for and protect their purchases, retailers can build confidence while creating opportunities to strengthen customer relationships beyond point of sale,’ says Robert Jones, Staingard head of sales. ‘Bed Show was a fantastic success for us. It was great to spend time with our existing retail partners, meet new contacts and discuss how we can continue to support retailers with our care plans and care products. Events like this are hugely important to our business. They give us the opportunity to listen to our partners, understand their priorities and demonstrate how we can help them deliver even greater value to their customers. We came away feeling really positive about the conversations we had and the opportunities ahead.’

Alongside its focus on retail partnerships, Staingard is investing in digital solutions to make its services more accessible and easier to use, including an enhanced product ordering facility through the Staingard Portal, and a Shopify plug-in designed to simplify the sale of care plans online. The company’s ambition extends beyond a single platform. It is looking to integrate its care plans with a wider range of online platforms and ecommerce systems, helping retailers incorporate protection into their existing digital customer journeys. The aim is to create more streamlined processes, support online sales and provide solutions that work around the retailer’s existing systems. Staingard display stand

‘This reflects our wider commitment to combine technology with the personal service and relationships that remain central to the business. Whether supporting retailers in-store or online, the objective is to make offering care and protection as straightforward and effective as possible, and the positive response at Bed Show provides us with further encouragement. ‘We believe that successful retail partnerships are built on trust, service and a shared commitment to customer satisfaction. By continuing to invest in its people, products and technology, the business aims to help retailers meet changing consumer expectations and build lasting customer relationships.’ Visit: staingard.co.uk Staingard has new POS

BEDS AND BEDROOM Burgess Beds sought to protect its The Harry Burgess mattress, but the thought of its comfort proved too much for the company’s security
Sweet Dreams debuted six brand-new mattresses at Bed Show. Defined Gel 1000, Clarity Gel 1000 and top of the range Nexus Gel 3000, which all have an additional layer of gel incorporated to help with cooling, were added to the bestselling Defined Edge no-turn range, along with Bolesworth 1000 which combines pocket springs with wool, cashmere and latex fillings. It also showcased its slimmed-down sofabed range, now made up of four

models, with a two-week lead time. Spinks highlighted two new concepts. ECore Air is a new pocket core designed to improve air flow and ventilation through the mattress, which also reduces the need for extra layers. By infusing hydrophilic non-woven technology, already used in medical applications, with copper and integrating it into Spinks’ microcoil, Spinks has created the world’s first copper-infused microcoil fabric. The result is designed not only to
provide responsive comfort and support but also to contribute to a cleaner, more hygienic sleep environment. Sealy’s new entry-level Select and Select Lux represent ‘simple and very firm’ non-Posturepedic mattresses, making for the still hugely popular ‘good old-fashioned’ hard bed. Mid-range Elevate and Elevate Ultra have refreshed aesthetics and an exterior that hints at the coil technology within. At the higher end of the range, the new Acclaim told a spring story: the small top coil means there are more contact points, designed to improve comfort, while the middle third of the mattress is made up of micro-coils which assists the hip region, providing more support. B Corporation-certified Silentnight unveiled the new Every Season range. The mattresses have a ‘cosy side’ of memory foam to keep the sleeper warmer during colder nights, and a ‘cool side’ of cool-to-touch fabric and Memory Cool Comfort to take away body heat during the summer. The technology means the mattress only needs to be flipped twice a year. The Lifetime Product Guarantee has been extended to encompass all Silentnight products, and covers

the product for its defined lifetime. This advance on the existing fiveyear guarantee means mattresses are now covered for 15 years and divans, headboards and bed frames for 10. The new guarantee is designed to provide independent retailers with an eyecatching extra benefit for customers. Wiemann highlighted a new slider option to the Monaco 3000 collection. Monaco, which was an award winner when it launched and has continued to attract plaudits ever since, is a flexible system of bedroom furniture offering everything from clever corner units to bed frames. Its flexible modular system combines innovative design with practical storage, offering a huge choice of sizes, colours and finishes to suit any space or style. ‘The new slider adds another look which consumers will love and shows our commitment to the range. Monaco is one of our bestselling ranges and this is the latest newcomer to the continually

evolving range,’ says Kai Schwenke, Wiemann export manager. The showcased Ambiero wardrobe, features hinged and hinged-combi doors with a unique horizontal textured glass dimple-effect panel. ‘It’s a new and distinctive look which is so far proving popular. Ambiero has been a talking point for all the right reasons wherever it has been displayed this year,’ says Simon Hewitt, md of Litmus Furniture, Wiemann UK and Ireland agent. Kaymed highlighted its £3m transformation programme designed to accelerate innovation, strengthen manufacturing capabilities and deliver greater value for customers and consumers. A new Laader Berg Maxfoam continuous PU foam pour line has been installed at its Dublin foam manufacturing facility. The £2.7m investment introduces advanced automation, real-time monitoring and enhanced production traceability, creating one of the most technologically
advanced flexible foam manufacturing environments in the region. The new equipment delivers improved product consistency, enhanced quality assurance and greater manufacturing efficiency, enabling Kaymed to further expand its portfolio of Fusion comfort foams. The investment will also reduce waste streams by almost 2% and lower energy consumption by about 3.6%. A further £350,000 investment in C3 Technology foam block compression and roll-packing equipment strengthens Kaymed’s sustainability and logistics capabilities. By significantly reducing shipping volumes, with up to eight times better load yields, the technology improves transport efficiency, lowers carbon emissions and enables more sustainable movement of products throughout the supply chain. Pure Care highlighted its expanded pillow offer. ‘The collection now includes Wool Lux, designed around wool’s natural temperature-regulating properties, innovative Fusion Fibre pillows featuring dual-core hollow fibre technology and enhanced airflow, and traditional feather and down options. These sit alongside Purecare’s established Wave, Nano and Groove wellness pillows, providing retailers with options across a wide range of comfort preferences and price points,’ says Paul Lake, Purecare and PureLay UK and Europe head. ‘Sleeping position, temperature, preferred feel and individual support requirements can all influence choice. This year’s successful expansion of the Norfolk Feather programme has given Purecare an even broader platform.’

They begin with curiosity. We spend a lot of time simply looking. Design is about understanding what makes nature beautiful and bringing that feeling into the spaces where people live. RUGS
New beginning
Laura Ashley SS27 showcase
Think Rugs is the new Laura Ashley licensed rug partner Think Rugs has been appointed licensed rug partner for Laura Ashley, with a fresh collection drawn from the brand’s archive and best-loved prints. Twenty-five SS 2027 designs will go on show at Think Rugs’ showroom this month, with stock available from March. Two more ranges follow during 2027: a core range based on Laura Ashley’s bestselling prints, in stock in June and July, and an AW 2027 range from August. The SS 2027 range has 42 colourways, with 250 SKUs across all sizes. Laura Ashley’s trademark florals, delicate trails and country-house styles run through the new collection, which carries them onto the floor in handtufted wool, handloom viscose, handwoven jute and printed constructions. ‘Laura Ashley is one of the few brands people can picture the moment you say its name. Our job has been to translate that look onto the floor properly. That means choosing the right construction for each design, not simply copying a print onto a rug,’ says Sam Tippett, Think Rugs md. At the top of the range sit two handloom viscose designs. Lovell sets a full-blown rose and leaf pattern inside a trailing floral border, in aqua or pink on ivory, while Brunswick brings a classic Laura Ashley pattern to the same quality. Hand-tufted wool carries some of the most recognisable looks, including
70
Interiors Monthly November 2026
Kayleigh Trail, Aris Trellis, Abberley Scroll and Zelia Floral, in soft, dense wool pile. Printed rugs are designed to make the archive accessible. Maribel Peonies, Orleans, Perry Mead and Shalden Grove are pitloom printed, and Mailey Garden and Moorend Garden bring two of the brand’s garden florals into printed form. Shalden Grove is offered in both printed and hand-tufted wool versions, giving retailers two ways into the same design. Natural rugs complete the picture, with Jute Diamond, Jute Floral Border and Stripe Jute hand-woven in jute, and Lewes, a handloom wool rug, available in 11 colours from blue seaspray to red cranberry. Sizes run from small mats to large room sizes, with runners across much of the range. Much of the colour is tonal or twotone: soft greens, faded roses, sage, ivory and natural grounds. It is a deliberately calm palette that sits easily in both traditional and contemporary rooms. ‘This isn’t a one-off capsule. Retailers can see SS now and get orders in early. Then in February they can see what’s coming for the rest of the year. Our aim is a year-round Laura Ashley rug programme that a retailer can plan around, with new designs each season and a core range that stays. We wanted a retailer to be able to build a complete Laura Ashley rug offer from one range. That might be a hard-wearing jute for
a hallway, a printed rug for a busy family room, or a handloom viscose piece that becomes the focal point of a living room. ‘The best way to understand these rugs is to stand on them. Photographs show the prints, but the showroom shows the quality: the lustre of the viscose, the depth of the wool, the weave of the jute. We’d encourage every buyer to come and see the collection, and we’ll be ready to talk about the ranges that follow.’ Email: laura.jones@thinkrugs.co.uk

It is available in five colours: Sea Haze, Almond, Burnt Orange, Emerald Green and Mustard; a 250cm circular design and two pebble sizes of 220cm x 290cm and 265cm x 350cm. Solera Shard’s circular form is defined by a calm, tonal expression, where subtle shifts between boucle and cut pile create a nuanced play of light and depth across the surface. Made in soft, durable wool, the variations in pile add depth and dimension, while the restrained palette creates a sense of understated elegance that endures over time. It is available in Almond, Mint and Terracotta in 250cm and 300cm sizes.
Flare Eclipse in Teal
Carefully balanced colours converge at the edges of Flare Eclipse’s rectangular form, each tone contributing to a measured harmony. Subtle shifts and slight misalignments introduce a gentle tension, forming new relationships between colour and line that create a sense of movement. The wool’s natural softness and depth adds a warm, tactile quality that contrasts the precise geometric details, creating an inviting and expressive presence. Flare Eclipse is available in Almond and Teal and in 140cm x 200cm, 170cm x 240cm, 200cm x 300cm and 250cm x 350cm sizes. Visit: liniedesign.com

Botanical tribute
Bloom is part of the Embroidery collection
GAN and Hilla Havkin have combined artisanal manufacturing and a childhood hobby With the Bloom collection for GAN, designer Hilla Havkin has created a tribute to botanical diversity, in which each design seeks to capture the unique essence of a specific floral species. Havkin graduated in biology before studying architecture, and Bloom is a personal interpretation of the botanical universe she knows so well. The natural world plays a central role in her approach to design, and the Arts and Crafts movement is one of her main influences, not only at an aesthetic level but also for its defense of artisanal manufacturing. The idea behind Bloom was to represent each plant from a zenithal perspective, lit from directly above as though flattened on the blank page, in reference to the flowers she collected and pressed as a child. The design is the result of merging two artisanal techniques. On one hand, the flowers are executed by the embroiderers of the GAN Women Unit, while the neutral wool base is prepared on manual looms. The different floral species of the Bloom collection, each with its own nuances and colours, are embroidered with great delicacy, intertwining with a succession of horizontal and vertical lines. In the case of the Dark Grey design, it is the flower of the Salix Discolor or pussy willow shrub; for Beige, the flower of the understory plant Sanguinaria Canadensis, and for Light Grey, the orchid Habenaria Armatissima.

The rugs are available in two sizes, measuring 170cm x 240cm and 200cm x 300cm, and represent a contemporary reinterpretation of the Arts and Crafts movement. The GAN Women Unit is the company’s employed team of women specialising in rug production. Their knowledge has
been passed down from generation to generation for centuries. The Unit not only provides them with a fair wage and economic independence but also their own place of work, in an area of India that is predominantly rural and with limited development resources. Visit: gan-rugs.com
