And the decision is…

D-day for shareholders looms and time is running out to tell us who the best in the business are

As you read the print version of this edition, you’ll know the outcome of Headlam’s general meeting on 2 June, where investment group First Seagull is seeking to remove three nonexecutive directors, including chairman Stephen Bird.

As I write this five days ahead of the meeting, the intention of shareholders remains unclear. Bird only received the support of 56.66% of the votes cast at the group’s AGM in May: miles short of what you would expect a sitting chair to receive.

The other two NEDs First Seagull wants gone were supported by 66.3% of votes, which is still well down on what you’d expect if all was well with the business, but First Seagull obviously sees ousting Bird as the key to securing what it wants (and the statements to shareholders have been firmly aimed at him). A chair serves at the pleasure of the board, so its members could have told him time was up, but that never seemed feasible.

A simple majority will decide the general meeting, so First Seagull will have been encouraged by the scale of the AGM rebellion and be hoping a further push will succeed, while probably a little disappointed that round two was required. For the NEDs, there would have been some comfort that they polled above 50% but concern that, in Bird’s case, the margin was the size it was. Phone lines to shareholders will have been glowing since then as each side sought to convince them that their view is what will secure the group’s prospects.

Amid all of the corporate control issues is the fact that sales have fallen off a cliff. Yes, the market isn’t pulling up trees and the group has moved away from large volume customers, but that’s only part of the story. Saying it has put prices up (who hasn’t) and is prepared to do so again – while the new ceo has found ‘certain operational improvements’ – isn’t a convincing strategy.

It’ll soon be 10 June: the deadline for voting in this year’s Interiors Monthly Awards. interiorsmonthly.co.uk/voting-form is the place to tell us who you think are the best in the business.

Bird survives AGM vote amid 21% sales plunge

Stephen Bird, Headlam non-executive chairman survived a major shareholder rebellion against his re-appointment.

Bird secured 56.66% of votes for his re-election at the 20 May AGM, ahead of a general meeting on 2 June.

The general meeting – to be held at Headlam’s Coleshill head office, which it is considering selling and leasing back to raise funds to improve its balance sheet – was called for by 11% shareholder First Seagull. The investment fund wants to replace Bird along with two other non-executive directors, accusing the board of overseeing a massive loss of shareholder value, lacking the skills to turn around the fortunes of the flooring distributor, and Bird having failed as chairman.

Headlam has rejected its claims.

Non-executive directors Jemima Bird and Karen Hubbard were re-elected at the AGM with 66.3% of the votes: well below that traditionally expected of incumbent NEDs. In

contrast, new non-executive directors Nick Kelsall and Wilf Walsh received 91.34% of votes and Rob Barclay, ceo and Richard Jones, finance director 95.3% of votes.

Before of the AGM, the group revealed a 21% drop in sales in the first four months of the year. ‘The group continues to incur significant underlying operating losses. Under the leadership of the new management team, who have now been in place for eight weeks, certain operational improvements have already been implemented. In addition, the group has put through a price increase in May and targeted surcharges reflecting recent higher raw material input prices, which are being passed onto customers.

‘The company will continue to monitor any further impact from macro-economic and geopolitical issues and act accordingly. The team remains focused on delivering further significant operational and commercial improvements,’ it told shareholders ahead of the AGM.

Master and president

Jessica Alexander has been installed as The Furniture Makers’ Company’s 64th master, while Fara Butt, Shire Beds director has been elected NBF president.

‘Taking on this role as the figurehead of the furniture industry’s charity and livery company is an honour and a privilege. Like others before me, I will do my best to spread the word about what an important and special organisation we are; to support and inspire everyone involved, and to encourage

even more of those who have chosen to work in our industry long term to join us and help secure our future,’ says the British Furniture Confederation director and former NBF executive director.

Alistair Gough, Ocee International ceo, and Donna Bellingham, Shackletons ceo have become senior and junior warden respectively, with Gough set to succeed Alexander next year and Bellingham to become master in 2028.

‘It is a real honour to be

appointed president of the NBF. The federation plays a crucial role in supporting and representing our industry, from championing high standards to ensuring the strength of

our manufacturing base and supply chain,’ says Butt. Butt, a long-standing NBF board and council member and chair of its marketing committee, will serve as president for two years.

Nick Harland-Smith, Handy md; Tristine Hargreaves, NBF executive director and Steve Warren, Sleepeezee md were re-elected to the NBF council for a period of three years. They were joined by Danny Blackmore, Silentnight; Neil Clark, Sealy; George Joyce, Wolf Components; James Keen, Hypnos, and Neil McCarroll, L&P Springs UK, bringing the total number of council members to 14.

Five for Olive & Barr

British handmade kitchen company Olive & Barr has opened its fifth store: on The Mall, Clifton, Bristol.

‘Opening in Bristol feels like a natural next step. It’s a city with a real appreciation for craft, quality and independent makers, values at the very heart of what we do. We can’t wait to welcome customers through the door and help them create a kitchen they’ll treasure for years to come,’ says Al Bruce, Olive & Barr founder.

Dusk sees sales leap to £195m

Online furniture and homeware retailer Dusk has seen sales leap to £195m.

The retailer, owned by Victoria Plumb co-founder Jason Walker, says that sales grew from £152.2m to £195m in the year to 31 March.

Profit and loss were not disclosed: in 2025 it had a pre-tax loss of £10.5m after investing £16m in warehousing, IT, logistics and prioritising growth. The 2025/26 accounts have yet to be filed with Companies House.

‘The market continues to be competitive, and against that backdrop, we are delighted that we continue to rapidly grow our market share, while serving our growing customer base with our differentiated proposition. Over the past year, we have taken significant strategic steps to build a sustainably profitable business and prepare for the next phase of growth,’ says Chris Read, Dusk chief executive.

‘This has included expanding our product range, strengthening our brand presence, and entering new channels such as B2B, wholesale partnerships, and dropship –providing new and existing customers with greater choice and convenience.’

Dusk says it had benefited from a stronger brand presence and from broadening its product offering, expanding across its furniture and mattress categories.

Bedroom and living room furniture sales grew by 159% and 139% respectively. Repeat customers now account for about half of all orders.

Flooring inflation jumps

Flooring retail inflation almost doubled in April, hitting its highest rate for more than a year. The rate jumped from 1.5% to 2.7% last month, according to ONS data.

Since October 2025, the rate has been 1.1%, 1%, 2%, 1.1%, 1.8%, 1.5% and 2.7%.

Flooring inflation is expected to rise further in the coming months as price rises caused by the conflict in the Middle East filter through to retail prices: suppliers have been issuing frequent upward price lists in recent weeks.

Carpets and rugs saw the greatest inflationary impact in April, with prices in the sector 2.8% higher: up from March’s 1.8% and easily the highest rate in more than a year.

Smooths saw its first retail inflation in over 12 months, with the rate of increases climbing to 1.7%.

In March the sector experienced deflation – as it has done in all but one month in the past year (and even then there was no inflation) – of 1.2%.

Furniture inflation reappears

Furniture retail inflation re-appeared in April: it had been absent since last August. The rate of annual CPI for household furniture had been -0.6% in March, but deflation was ended with inflation of 1%.

April’s figure is the highest since March 2025, when it was 1.3%.

Garden furniture registering its ninth consecutive month of deflation, although the rate fell from 8.9% to 7.4%. Only two of the past 13 months have seen inflation: of 0.2% and 5.5%.

Distribution investment for Bedkingdom

Furniture etailer Bedkingdom has expanded its warehouse operations with a 55,756sqft facility in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

The company has seen growth as it moved outwith its original bed offering and the investment is designed to provide increased stock capacity, improved logistics efficiency and quicker delivery times.

‘We’ve seen strong growth as we’ve expanded beyond beds into a wider

furniture offering. This new facility gives us the space and infrastructure we need to continue that momentum and better serve our customers,’ says Levon Hall, Bedkingdom chief operating officer.

‘Our brand has had a facelift, and this marks a new chapter for Bedkingdom. We’re focused on building a more comprehensive furniture destination while maintaining the value and service our customers have come to expect,’ he added.

Stephan Colle, Belgotex founder dies, aged 66

Tributes have been paid to Stephan Colle, Belgotex founder, after he died aged 66. Colle died at his home near Pietermaritzburg, South Africa on 4 May, surrounded by his family, after suffering from cancer.

He shaped the global flooring market for decades, including founding Associated Weavers.

In 1983, the newly married Colle – he had married Ann De Clerck, daughter of Beaulieu founder Roger De Clerck –was sent to South Africa by his father-in-law to look after Beaulieu’s interests in KwaZulu-Natal. What began as overseeing a local factory grew under his leadership into a global player.

Through Belgotex Group, he created an international footprint, with production sites across Brazil, South Africa, Belgium and France, and distribution networks spanning the world.

He is survived by his wife, three children and grandchildren. His eldest son, Edward, followed in his father’s footsteps within the company in South Africa. In addition to Belgotex Group, Colle and his wife held a substantial stake in Beaulieu International Group (BIG).

‘Stephan was a remarkable person. He combined an extraordinary work ethic with a genuine warmth that touched everyone around him. A true entrepreneur, he helped build and shape the global flooring industry, always driven by passion and vision,’ says Associated Weavers.

‘Despite his global success, he led his companies with a strong sense of family – something that defined both his leadership and his life. Above all, Stephan was a devoted family man, deeply proud of his children and grandchildren. That same care and humanity were felt throughout the organisations he built.

‘He was a true flooring man at heart, and an inspiration

to many. He will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.’

‘We are deeply saddened that Stephan Colle has passed away. Stephan, former ceo and family shareholder of Beaulieu, dedicated many years of his life to our company and played an important role in our history, including serving as chairman and ceo from 2019 to 2021,’ says BIG.

‘We will remember him as a warm and open person, deeply committed to the company and its people. He will be greatly missed.’

‘Stephan built Belgotex South Africa from the ground up, not just as a business but as a community of people bound by a shared commitment to quality, integrity and human connection. He had a rare ability to think big while remaining deeply grounded and genuinely interested in the people around him,’ says Evan Lockhart-Barker, Belgotex ceo.

‘His passing leaves a profound void, but his legacy is alive in this organisation.’

VP sees flooring and tile boost as

MFI hits £500,000

sales

Victorian Plumbing has seen flooring and tiles reach 8% of sales, while MFI has seen half-year sales hit £500,000.

The UK’s largest bathroom retailer says flooring and tile sales were worth £14m, up from £7.6m in the six months to the end of March, ‘aided by infrastructure investment and enhancements in our customer proposition’.

It says it has invested in lower prices to help its entry into the market, and it expects the proportion of flooring and tile trade sales to increase.

After its soft launch in July 2025, MFI has seen performance improve as the group has widened its product offer to more than 5,500SKUs.

‘We are particularly proud of our achievements in the

bedding and textiles category. Furniture, in both garden and home, also continues to improve and we anticipate more progress in this category by the end of the financial year. Gross profit for the period was £200,000m. Gross margin sits between 30% and 40% currently as most product is UK sourced,’ says Stephanie Judge, Victorian Plumbing ceo.

Richard Renouf Straight talking

An engineer has concerns about kitchen doors – and

rules

It’s a few years since October 2021, but not enough to cause Mr Priest (not his real name, of course) to consider it too unreasonable to raise another complaint about his fitted kitchen.

Within a year of installation, the customer complained that some of the door fronts were warping. The retailer was sympathetic and, after a site visit, replacements were ordered and fitted. Nothing was heard until March this year, four and a half years after the original fitting, when the customer notified that the replacement doors were also now warping. One of his photos is shown so you can see the significant gap between the door front and his steel rule.

I dealt with a similar complaint some years ago and during my site visit back then, I found the doors were flat but the customer’s rule was bowed. If you laid it against the doors one way it showed cupping where the door appeared to be concave, but if you turned it over and used the other side of the rule, it showed crowning where the door appeared to be convex. It also seemed to indicate that my rule was not straight,

but it was easy to show the customer this was not the case by ruling a fine line on a flat surface, reversing the rule and checking if the lines were the same. It’s just as easy to check if a square is accurate: place it against a straight edge and rule a line, then turn the square over and see if it conforms to the first line.

In this case, the photos seemed to show the customer was using a rule that was also not straight. Have a look and see what you think. Photographs can be distorted by camera lenses and angles, so it was necessary to go on site with calibrated rules to check.

Only one of the doors had a bow that I considered excessive. It measured 1.8mm on a 600mm door. The other doors were within a millimetre, and I measured this by using a slip gauge: an accurate ‘wedge’ marked with a scale to measure gaps. Taking photos of the actual measurements was not as easy as I’ve only got two hands, but I managed to demonstrate what I found with sufficient clarity to submit my report.

Going on site had additional advantages, however. I learned that the

customer was an engineer and it was clear that he was bothered by a degree of detail that would not have troubled an ‘ordinary’ customer. I also learned that he felt the environment was very stable, with no dramatic changes in temperature or humidity in spite of the large bi-fold doors, and his justification for this was his occasional use of the air conditioning unit at the opposite end of the room, which could be used as a heater as well as a cooler.

It is a considerable challenge to manufacture doors that are not flat. Warping is usually the result of a moisture change and is most likely to happen within a short time of fitting, as the product may not have been stored in the same conditions as the customer’s home. It’s usually considered that any warping that occurs after a few months has to be the result of changes in the environment. In this case, four and a half years was hardly a reasonable period.

Oh, and the customer’s rule wasn’t to hand when I did the inspection. But then, I was only there to check the doors and not to challenge the engineer’s intelligence.

Audo Copenhagen has headed to New York and is doing things differently

SMOOTH

The perfect blend of...

Engineered WoodLaminate

For many brands the US is a cherished ambition, but it has scuppered plenty –regardless of how much money has been thrown at it.

Audo Copenhagen has taken a different approach: the space introduces a new archetype for the design environment: one that is inhabited, social and continuously evolving. Here, architecture, furniture, art and human interaction come together, creating a setting where design is experienced in context.

Audo House New York is in the heart of Tribeca, within a landmarked building emblematic of downtown New York’s architectural heritage, and is the brand’s first Audo House outside Scandinavia.

The store, inspired by the spirit of Audo House in Copenhagen, translates Scandinavian sensibility into a distinctly New York setting shaped by history, materials and urban rhythm. Rather than imposing a new identity on the building, the design works in conversation

with the existing structure and interior architecture. The cadence of columns, generous volumes and filtered light establish a spatial framework that guides movement through the interior.

Designed by Norm Architects, the space will also serve as a hybrid hub for cultural exchange. Talks, exhibitions and gatherings will take place within the venue, reflecting Audo’s belief in design as a means of bringing people together and shaping environments where they meet, engage and return.

‘With Audo House New York we wanted to create a dialogue between our roots in Copenhagen and the unmistakable character of New York. The space blends Scandinavian calm with the raw texture and energy that define the neighbourhood – creating a place where design, culture and community naturally

come together,’ says Joachim KornbekEngell Hansen, Audo Copenhagen design and brand director.

Typical New York materials are reinterpreted through a Scandinavian lens and balanced with warm woods, muted tones and natural finishes. The resulting environment reflects Audo’s philosophy of soft minimalism, where forms are sculptural yet understated and materials are chosen for their tactility and longevity.

The interiors are styled by long-time Audo collaborator Colin King, whose approach brings a sense of ease and continuity to the space through layered textures, tonal restraint and a lived-in atmosphere that allows the design to feel inhabited rather than staged. ‘Audo has always understood that good design isn’t just seen, it’s felt. My role is to

help shape that feeling into something quietly memorable,’ he says.

It is a feeling far removed from UK retail parks, but the engagement with the community is not barred from transatlantic travel. Furniture, lighting and accessories are arranged as they would be in a lived environment – but not a roomset – to invite use, conversation and pause, rather than a gallery of designs. Textiles and objects create an atmosphere of warmth and ease, allowing the space to unfold and reveal itself through experience, and encouraging repeat visits.

Paintings and sculptures by US multidisciplinary artist Benjamin Ewing further anchor the space, continuing a relationship that began with the opening of Audo House Copenhagen. Visit: audocph.com

70th anniversary

Seven decades of British manufacturing, family values and commitment to the flooring industry at Cormar

Neville Cormack visited an industrial machinery exhibition in Manchester in 1955, and made a purchase. He was 26 years old. The following year, he founded Cormar Carpets. He had been working for textile component supplier Greenwood and Coope, where his father had been finance director. Rather than buying one machine though, he bought two. It was a brave decision for a man who knew relatively little

about carpets, but as he said throughout his life: ‘No one else knew much about tufted carpet in those days.’ It had only just been invented in the US.

The machinery allowed him to be a pioneer in a revolution in carpet production: with tufted carpet much quicker and less expensive to produce than woven. By 1959, Cormar had expanded from Nunn Hills Mill in the Rossendale Valley, Lancashire to

Brookhouse Mill, where it still is today. As demand for tufted carpet continued to grow in the 1960s and 1970s, the company expanded with a warehouse in Swanley, Kent and amalgamated the contracted delivery fleet into its own in-house transport operation. Today Cormar still owns its fleet of more than 70 vehicles, having focused on delivery as a point of difference with its competitors. In 2017, Cormar expanded again, moving into its 130,000sqft distribution centre in Hemel Hempstead to service customers in southern England.

Cormar has grown to be the largest independent carpet manufacturer in the UK, employing over 400 people at its mills and distribution centres, together with a sales team of more than 30 covering the UK and Ireland.

Part of the company’s success has been its family business philosophy and the team of people working behind the scenes to deliver a firstclass service for customers, whether in the sales team, those delivering carpet, or within the offices and mills. Driving that philosophy, at the helm Neville Cormack worked in the business for 50 years as md and then chairman, joined in 1987 by his son David as marketing director.

The company has also always valued external, non-family expertise. In the mid-1990s David Judge joined as md, and during his leadership the company

accelerated its expansion, while more recently Paul Barratt joined as ceo in 2024. Cormar is still very much a family business with Edward Polito, Neville’s grandson joining as commercial director in 2023. Helen Polito, his mother, remains chairman.

From its early days of producing narrow-width carpet, the company has moved and developed its product base in line with the market. Initially producing synthetic carpet, with bestselling lines such as Carousel and 4 Star, by the latter part of the 20th century it was principally producing wool carpet for the dominant twist market, with its Warwick range being one of the standout collections. However, after 2010, Cormar again moved into man-made carpets, with the launch of Sensation, the first of its soft-style ranges, together with the Primo easy-clean twist ranges. Today the company has a balanced portfolio of wool and man-made fibre cut and loop pile ranges, all principally focused on the residential market.

Over the years, Cormar has won more than 50 trade awards and in 2025 was voted Best UK Carpet Manufacturer by Interiors Monthly readers for the thirteenth consecutive year, underlining the strength of its reputation within the sector. Its new Silken Serenity range secured the accolade of Best Bedroom Flooring at the Ideal Home Awards 2026, again highlighting product excellence in the consumer market.

Throughout its history, Cormar’s position could not have been sustained without continued investment, made possible by sustained profitability. At its Holme Mill and Brookhouse Mill sites,

machinery is constantly updated along with IT infrastructure. The award-winning trade portal is also continually refreshed, with 70% of Cormar stockists placing orders via the 24/7 online service.

With distribution taking place via the regional centres in Hemel Hempstead and Bury, the distribution fleet has a rolling replacement programme, to ensure a fast, reliable delivery service to customers, alongside a growing network of over 40 collection centres across the UK and Ireland, which offer next day collection, among several benefits.

Cormar continues to play a leading role in supporting the transition to a more sustainable and circular flooring industry, becoming the first major carpet manufacturer to achieve full certification from Innovate Recycle for its polypropylene ranges: recognised as 100% recyclable and awarded its

Tuft Accreditation. By working in close partnership with industry bodies and continually refining production efficiencies, Cormar demonstrates that premium quality and environmental responsibility can and should go hand in hand.

‘Celebrating 70 years of Cormar Carpets is a hugely proud moment for everyone within the business. From starting out as a family-run company and evolving into one of the UK’s leading carpet manufacturers, we’ve always stayed committed to the values that defined us: quality, service and reliability. This milestone is a tribute to the dedication of our colleagues, the loyalty of our retail partners and the continued support of customers who have embraced Cormar carpets in their homes,’ says David Cormack. Wellness beyond the mattress

Attention is shifting towards products that support comfort, hygiene and temperature regulation

As consumer awareness around sleep wellness continues to grow, retailers are increasingly recognising the importance of products beyond the mattress itself. Pillows and mattress protectors are becoming key parts of the modern sleep conversation, as consumers look to tackle overheating, interrupted sleep and physical discomfort.

‘The findings of our Sleep Study of 1,000 people are helping shift attention toward the products that directly support comfort, hygiene and temperature regulation throughout the night,’ says Paul Lake, Purecare UK head. One of the most significant opportunities identified within the study relates to mattress protection. While protectors are often viewed as secondary purchases, the data revealed that a third of consumers do not use a mattress protector. ‘When including those using non-waterproof products, the study showed that 81.4% may not be adequately protecting their mattress or maintaining the sleep environment they believe they have. For retailers, this creates a strong opportunity to position protectors around wellness benefits rather than simple product protection. Products such as Purecare’s OmniGuard Advance Mattress Protector are designed to support airflow, moisture management, hygiene and temperature consistency, all factors increasingly linked to better sleep quality,’ says Lake.

‘Pillows are also becoming a more considered purchase as consumers

place greater importance on support and comfort. Sleep experts widely recognise the importance of maintaining proper alignment of the head, neck and shoulders during sleep, particularly for side sleepers. The study found that nearly 70% of respondents sleep on their side, while many others regularly change sleeping positions during the night. This reinforces the importance of helping consumers find the pillow that best suits their individual sleep style and support needs. Purecare’s growing pillow programme combines ergonomic support with cooling technologies designed to help improve comfort and temperature regulation. Alongside specialist wellness-focused pillows such as the Wave Pillow and Nano Pillow, the recent addition of Norfolk Feather has expanded the range to include feather

Consumers are looking for products that address their sleep concerns

and down, fusion fibre and wool pillow options, giving retailers a broader and more versatile selection across multiple comfort preferences and price points.’

Purecare continues to support retailers through education and training designed to simplify conversations and help consumers make more informed sleep choices. ‘With many retailers continuing to experience softer footfall throughout 2026, wellness-focused categories such as pillows and protectors also present valuable opportunities to increase attachment sales while delivering meaningful customer benefits. As the sleep wellness conversation continues to evolve, products beyond the mattress are becoming increasingly important in helping consumers create healthier, more restorative sleep environments.’ Visit: purecarehome.co.uk

An alternative

Conflict-driven raw material price increases mean other solutions are being sought

‘Rising foam prices are an unavoidable reality for furniture and bedding manufacturers across the UK and Europe. Ongoing disruption to global supply chains continues to place pressure on polyurethane foam supply, with little sign of short-term relief,’ says Mike Crowshaw, Peak Converters md.

In May, EUROPUR, the European association of flexible PU foam block manufacturers, described current conditions as ‘the most severe supply chain crisis in the industry’s modern history’, and cautioned that even if the Strait of Hormuz was immediately reopened, wider logistical disruption means the market is unlikely to return to normal before the end of the year.

‘Many businesses have already implemented significant price increases to offset rising costs. At Peak Converters, however, the focus has been on drawing on more than 50 years of experience and a vast raw material portfolio to help customers manage inflationary pressures through practical alternatives. Material selection and application present genuine opportunities for cost optimisation without compromising on performance.

‘Once viewed as a secondary option to PU foam, modern polyester fibre fillings have evolved considerably and are now widely recognised as a high

performance alternative for upholstery, bringing a host of benefits and making them a smart choice for manufacturers and consumers alike: fibre offers a soft, plush feel perfect for creating that sought-after “sink-in” sensation. However, it’s not just about softness: fibre also provides excellent support and rebound, ensuring furniture holds its shape and comfort over time.’ Unlike PU foam, fibre has natural breathability, allowing better air circulation and contributing to a cooler, more comfortable sitting experience.

‘Fibre fillings also have natural flame resistance. This means there’s no need for additional flame-retardant chemicals, making them a safer, more

environmentally conscious option, and for those with sensitivities or allergies, fibre is naturally hypoallergenic, making it a good option for homes as well as hospitality spaces. Beyond comfort and performance, fibre fillings are also a step forward in sustainable living. At the end of their lifecycle, these fibres are completely recyclable.

‘Exploring alternative materials is no longer simply a contingency plan. As manufacturers are increasingly reassessing material options, fibre presents for many a compelling combination of performance, availability and value,’ says Crowshaw. Visit: peakconverters.co.uk

Immerse yourself

In-store outdoor displays are designed to maximise retail space and drive cross-category sales

As outdoor living continues to evolve into a lifestyle category, retailers are increasingly looking beyond standalone furniture displays to create inspiring, immersive retail environments that encourage customers to shop the full look. This approach has become a key part of supporting retailers throughout the Spring/Summer season for Gallery Direct.

‘Working closely with customers across the UK, we deliver impactful in-store outdoor installations designed to maximise retail space and drive crosscategory sales. From statement pergolas and fully styled lifestyle settings through to compact feature areas, the focus is on helping retailers create displays that feel aspirational, relevant and reflective of how consumers are using their outdoor spaces today,’ says Peter Delaney, Gallery Direct product and sales director.

The displays are styled for the season, incorporating complementary categories to help build a complete outdoor story. Alongside outdoor furniture collections, installations may feature items such as wine coolers, salad bowls, outdoor lighting, pizza ovens, fire pits, textiles and decorative accessories, encouraging customers to consider the wider lifestyle opportunity rather than purchasing

individual pieces in isolation.

‘Gallery’s support does not stop once a display has been installed. We work collaboratively with retailers and key partners on an ongoing basis to ensure displays remain fresh, commercially effective and aligned with seasonal trends throughout the year. This includes updating layouts, introducing new product highlights and refining merchandising to ensure valuable retail space continues to work hard,’ says Delaney.

‘Outdoor retailing has become far more lifestyle-led, with consumers looking for inspiration and complete solutions rather than simply individual furniture pieces. By working closely with our retail partners, we’re able to create impactful displays that not only showcase the product but also demonstrate how different categories can work together to create a complete outdoor living environment.

‘It’s important that these spaces continue to evolve throughout the season too. This isn’t about creating a one-off display and walking away: it’s about continuously supporting our customers to keep their displays refreshed, current and commercially

effective as new trends, products and opportunities emerge. With consumers continuing to invest in their outdoor spaces, thoughtfully merchandised displays remain a valuable way for retailers to drive engagement, increase add-on sales and deliver greater visual impact during a key trading period.’

Gallery Direct will be introducing its 2027 outdoor collection at SOLEX on 7-9 July.

Icon

Manx Tomkinson has reimagined its classic Tomkinson Twist

If any range stood for a flooring brand, for Manx Tomkinson it is Tomkinson Twist. The iconic collection has been relaunched, blending the brand’s trusted legacy of craftsmanship with a refreshed aesthetic, enhanced luxury and nextgeneration performance tailored for modern interiors.

The 2026 collection retains the core values that made it a household name while introducing premium upgrades across design, comfort and functionality. At the heart of the relaunch are 18 new decors and three weight options, embracing a return to warmth and organic beauty. Inspired by the British countryside, the range features an elegant mix of soft chalky beiges, warm linen tones, delicate greys and muted earth shades. Each colour has been developed to maximise natural light and bring a calm, cohesive feel to any room.

The collection features a significant technical upgrade, transitioning from a traditional action back to high-density fleece backing. This modification improves dimensional stability, streamlines

installation and enhances both acoustic insulation and underfoot comfort. The carpet’s 80/20 wool-rich blend combines the natural resilience and thermal retention of wool with synthetic fibres to ensure superior appearance retention in high-traffic residential areas.

To provide ultimate flexibility for residential projects, the range is available

in three distinct weight options. From cosy bedrooms to heavy-duty domestic areas, Tomkinson Twist offers a tailored, high-performance solution without compromising on style. The range is backed by the Wool Owner’s Warranty, ensuring customers peace of mind and long-lasting protection.

Built specifically

Furniture retail is ‘too complex for generic retail software’

‘A furniture order is rarely just a simple sale. It can involve configurable products, fabric choices, colour options, supplier lead times, customer finance, warehouse availability, delivery planning, installation, aftersales and ongoing customer communication. Yet many retailers are still expected to manage all of that through systems that were never built for the realities of the furniture and bedding industry. That is where the problems start,’ says Stephen Connolly, Ordorite ceo.

‘Generic software may work for straightforward retail, but furniture retail demands more. It needs a platform that understands the full journey, from the shop floor to the warehouse, delivery van and customer’s home. It needs intelligence, visibility and control built into the product from the ground up.’

Ordorite is built specifically for the furniture and bedding industry. It is not a bolt-on, workaround or repurposed retail system: it is an endto-end platform designed around

the way furniture retailers operate.

At point of sale, Ordorite supports complex product configurations, customer details, payments, finance and order management in one connected process. In the warehouse, scanningled workflows support stock control, goods-in, picking, loading and dispatch.

Delivery teams can manage routes, update jobs and capture proof of delivery through mobile tools, while customer service teams have the visibility they need to manage tasks, updates and aftersales activity properly.

‘This is not just about “improving efficiency”. The bigger point is this: furniture retailers need better technology infrastructure. They need systems that remove the blind spots, connect the moving parts and give teams the intelligence to make better decisions faster,’ says Connolly.

‘Ordorite has more than 120 pre-built reports, giving access to meaningful insight across sales, stock, delivery, customer activity and wider business

performance. Instead of relying on guesswork, disconnected spreadsheets or delayed reporting, teams can see what is happening across the business and act with confidence.

‘The platform also reflects where the industry is heading. Furniture retail is becoming more connected, more dataled and more customer-experience focused. Retailers need technology that can keep pace with that shift, not systems that hold them back. That is why sector-specific software matters. The industry does not need another generic retail platform promising marginal efficiency gains. It needs intelligent software built around its complexity, its workflows and its future.

‘Ordorite gives retailers a smarter way to run the whole business, connecting sales, stock, logistics, reporting, customer service and growth tools in one awardwinning platform. Because in modern furniture retail, the right software is the engine behind the business.’

Designed for flooring

Lenscore offers room visualisation and marketing materials from a sample

‘Every flooring retailer knows the challenge. A customer shows you an image of their living room on their phone and asks: “What would this oak look like in my space?” Until now the answer has been guesswork, a swatch held against the phone or a costly professional render that takes days to arrive,’ says Ivan Gaskin, Lenscore Studio founder.

‘Lenscore Studio – an AI-powered visualisation platform designed specifically for the flooring and interiors trade – was built to close that gap instantly. It lets retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers turn product samples into photorealistic marketing imagery and client-ready room previews without a camera, a studio or a design agency.

‘At the heart of the platform is a visual prompt builder. Users upload a flooring sample image and choose a creation mode: Hero Shot for marketing material, Room Render for styled interiors, Prop Close-up for lifestyle detail shots, or Floor Replacement to digitally lay a product into a real customer photograph. Options such as housing style, room type, camera angle, lighting and theme are selected visually, and a single tap generates the finished image.

‘TrueView is a real-time floor visualiser. A shopper photographs their own room, picks a product from the retailer’s catalogue and sees it laid down instantly. Hardwood, herringbone, chevron, tile, carpet and vinyl sheet are all supported, with the original room’s lighting and shadows preserved. It does the same job

as Roomvo, but renders in the browser without a render queue and sits directly on the retailer’s existing Lenscore catalogue, so they don’t pay separately to ingest swatches.

‘Crucially, TrueView is also an embeddable widget retailers drop straight into their website, fully whitelabelled with their branding, fonts and colours, and pointing at their own product range. This means the customer never leaves the retailer’s website and the retailer keeps the traffic, the analytics and the journey.

‘The Campaign Builder generates branded socials and advertisements with the retailer’s logo, palette and tone of voice applied automatically, using the product swatch as the authoritative reference so the flooring in the ad matches exactly what the customer would receive.’

Lenscore Studio is not a single-user app. Team workspaces let staff across multiple branches share a credit pool, an image library, saved presets and a product catalogue. Every generation is stored, searchable and downloadable in jpeg or png format. For print campaigns, images can be upscaled to 300dpi poster resolution in one click.

‘Where generic AI image tools struggle with plank scale, bevel accuracy and pattern repeats, Lenscore Studio is engineered around flooring materials. Users can attach detailed specifications, plank dimensions, grout width, pile type and material finish directly to their

product swatches, and the AI uses those specs to generate more faithful results. A batch mode can produce dozens of variations in a single run, comparing lighting, angles and room styles side by side,’ says Gaskin.

The platform includes a swatch builder for creating composite product tiles, a room models shop offering ready-made scenes, and project-level organisation so client work stays grouped and easy to share via pdf or email.

‘Lenscore Studio is already in use with independent flooring manufacturers such as Kellars and Florstore and is rolling out across buying groups and wholesale distributors. With subscription plans from starter to enterprise, the platform scales from single showroom to nationwide chain. Flooring businesses spend thousands on photography that is out of date the moment a range is refreshed. We can give them the ability to produce that content themselves, on demand, for a fraction of the cost.’

Informed

A new showroom offers product understanding and technical support

For years, sofa beds have largely been viewed as a compromise product: practical, space-saving and functional, but rarely associated with the comfort or user experience expected from mainstream upholstery.

As consumer expectations continue to evolve, companies are increasingly looking for sofa beds that deliver genuine comfort, ease of operation and long-term durability without compromising on design. It is a shift that is driving innovation throughout the category and creating greater demand for high-quality mechanism

systems and specialist technical support.

Peter Cook has opened a Sedac-Meral showroom at its recently redeveloped Long Eaton premises to provide the opportunity to experience a wide range of mechanisms first hand and better understand the options available within the sofa-bed market. It hosts a selection of systems from Sedac-Meral, one of Europe’s best-known sofa-bed mechanism manufacturers, including the Nova and Epona ranges, allowing customers to see the practical differences between models and discuss specific requirements with the Peter Cook team.

‘The aim was to create a practical environment that supports informed decision-making rather than simply displaying products. We’re seeing increasing demand for mechanisms that deliver a better end-user experience. Comfort and reliability are becoming far more important and customers want the opportunity to see and the showroom gives people the chance to try the mechanisms for themselves, ask technical questions and have more collaborative conversations about what works best for different applications,’ says Carl Pickup, Peter Cook md.

‘The launch reflects the strengthening relationship between Peter Cook and Sedac-Meral as we continue to support the evolving needs of the upholstery and furniture manufacturing sector, and highlights the growing importance of hands-on product experience, particularly as sofa beds move further into the mainstream upholstery market. As expectations around functionality, comfort and durability continue to rise, suppliers and manufacturers alike are recognising the value of closer technical collaboration and better access to specialist product expertise.’

Creative playground

Unconventional production gives rise to a distinctive design language

Bold colours, organic forms and rough textures characterise the expressive designs of Pablo Octavio. Founder Pablo Schneider Motjer’s loft in Cologne’s Nippes district serves as workshop, showroom and home all in one. Situated in a former 1920s factory, the space is a creative playground for the GermanSpanish designer, which he has furnished with a blend of vintage pieces and his own original designs.

High ceilings and glass inserts lend the rooms a bright, spacious character. Coloured wall and floor surfaces delineate specific zones, while a shimmering silver curtain screens off floor-to-ceiling shelving units used for storage from the rest of the flat. Positioned centrally between the open-plan living/dining and kitchen area on one side and the bedroom and office on the other lies the studio workshop where Schneider Motjer makes his expressive furniture and product designs. He sells these creations – whether as unique collector’s items or small limited-edition series – through

his website, art galleries and design fairs such as Collectible Brussels.

In this process, unconventional production methods give rise to a distinctive design language that thrives on the interplay between controlled chance and intuitive intent, in creations such as the rock-like Lapis armchair. Although it seems to be chiselled from stone, both the chair and the bench version are created from a block of foam that the designer carefully tears apart. ‘I repeatedly change direction as I do this until the stone-like texture emerges: a feature that gives every armchair its own individual character. The interplay between chance and intention – inherent in the very act of tearing – creates a unique fractured edge that is never replicated,’ he says.

Flanking the armchair is a pink and purple coffee table, a dining table from the Flubber series, which emerged from Schneider Motjer’s first commission following his studies. ‘At the time, a stylist requested a funky dining table

that would deviate from standard furniture in both form and colour. So, I mounted a coloured lacquered plywood top with an organically curved silhouette onto four vibrant powder-coated tubular steel legs. The curves are so carefully scaled that you can sit comfortably at every indentation – transforming the piece into the focal point of all convivial evenings with friends and family.’ Visit: pablo-octavio.com

‘Whitemeadow is preparing to return to the Manchester Furniture Show with energy and creativity. With this in mind, we remain focused on creating collections that strike the right balance between contemporary style

and strong commercial appeal.’

The Nottinghamshire manufacturer continues to invest in developing its product and fabric offering, ensuring collections remain relevant, versatile and inspiring for modern retail environments.

‘Every detail is considered carefully, from shape and proportion through to fabric direction and finish, helping retailers create displays that encourage customer engagement and drive footfall back into stores. Expect to see thoughtfully tailored collections designed to offer broad appeal and perform on the shop floor,’ says Oscroft.

‘From proven bestsellers to exciting new cover stories, discover trend-led fabric directions that are fresh, relevant and in tune with today’s interiors landscape. With warm, cosy and tactile living continuing to influence consumer

Shape next season

More than half of MFS exhibitors will be making their debuts

In a trading environment shaped by ongoing operational and cost pressures, the ability to meet suppliers face to face remains a defining advantage of Manchester Furniture Show, particularly for buyers looking to strengthen relationships and make faster, more informed commercial decisions.

‘With business remaining somewhat stubborn it is still important to plan for the future, and this is an ideal event to explore future opportunities in a calm environment,’ says Andrew Sneddon, Glasswells buying director. ‘Being there in person, rather than communicating via email or flicking through a brochure, really makes a difference,’ says Eden Stoller, Stollers branding and marketing manager. ‘We are visiting the Manchester Furniture Show to have honest conversations with suppliers,

discover fresh ideas, and walk away with the confidence and products needed to navigate today’s market,’ says Vivion Connolly, Connollys of Moy md. ‘Faceto-face conversations remain incredibly important in our industry, and the Manchester Furniture Show provides the perfect platform for those discussions,’ says James Pike, Cookes Furniture md.

The exhibition returns to Manchester Central on 5-6 July, bringing the furniture and interiors sector together for focused days of sourcing, networking and mid-year buying at a pivotal point in the retail calendar. Positioned between early-year range planning and key Q3-Q4 purchasing decisions, the show offers a valuable opportunity to review, reset and refine collections face to face across furniture, home decor, accessories and interiors.

Across Manchester Central, more than 150 furniture and interiors brands will showcase over 25,000 products across upholstery, cabinet, dining, beds, home decor, accessories and homeware. With half of exhibitors new for 2026, the show offers access to fresh collections and emerging suppliers alongside established industry names.

Alongside leading furniture manufacturers such as Baker Furniture, La-Z-Boy UK and Alpha Designs, visitors can discover a growing selection of interiors-led exhibitors including Scatter Box, Hill Interiors, Ultimate Home Living, Home of Wool and a range of accessory, decor and lifestyle brands that reflect the increasing crossover between furniture retail and interiors purchasing.

New exhibitors also include Ashwood Designs, Avriio, HHI Sofa, Jarapa,

Kamjo and Sensowell, Sacred Nature Furniture and Whitemeadow. The result is a concentrated sourcing environment where buyers can evaluate and make decisions efficiently, without fragmented travel or multiple showroom visits.

Alongside sourcing, networking remains a central part of the MFS experience. Informal meetings across the show floor, dedicated social spaces including the Summer Garden Bar,

and the return of the Sunday Show Party create an environment where commercial conversations extend naturally beyond the show stand, strengthening relationships in a way digital communication cannot replicate.

Content adds further depth to the 2026 edition. The Women in Furniture Network panel, Shared Growth in Action brings together leading voices from across the furniture and interiors sector

on 6 July at 11.30am. Gisela Lancaster, Sofology head of buying; Kirsty Whyte, Soho Home founder and former chief product officer of Made.com; Lisa Flannery, Claremont md and Sophia Carbonell, senior commercial and ecommerce leader will explore leadership, collaboration and growth across a rapidly evolving industry, offering strategic insight alongside product sourcing. NBF Bed Industry Awards

Recognising excellence

You could be an NBF Bed Industry Awards retail winner

The NBF Bed Industry Awards will return in September, and retailers have been urged to enter the four retail categories, for retailers that stock NBF-approved member brands. The awards recognise excellence in the UK and Republic of Ireland bed market, and provide a boost for finalists and winners.

The Small NBF Retail Champion of the Year is dedicated to independent retailers with one or two stores, while Medium NBF Retail Champion of the Year is open to those with three to 20 stores. The National Bed Retailer of the Year Award recognises businesses with more than 20 stores. Retailers must have at least 80% of sales online to enter the Online Bed Retailer of the Year Award.

Retailer award entrants must demonstrate their support for NBFapproved brands and how they have raised awareness of the NBF and its values over the past year.

‘The accolades represent more than a trophy and a certificate for the winners. For last year’s Small Retail Champion winner, The M6 Bed Warehouse, their award was a “testament to the hard work and dedication of our team, and the trust and loyalty of our customers.” I encourage retailers who are on the fence about entering to just do it. If businesses have something they really want to shout about, the NBF Bed

Industry Awards provide the perfect platform,’ says Tristine Hargreaves, NBF executive director.

A shortlist of retailer finalists will be published before the winners are revealed, providing exposure to those nominated. Businesses should start gathering testimonials and evidence to strengthen their entries, and review the criteria and top tips to increase their chances of becoming finalists.

A VIP host will crown this year’s winners at the NBF Bed Industry Awards ceremony and gala dinner on 22 September, at the Telford International Centre. Booking details will be announced shortly.

For NBF members, the Bed Manufacturer of the Year and Supplier

of the Year awards spotlight companies that have excelled in areas such as financial performance, corporate social responsibility, sustainability and staff investment.

The Bed Product of the Year and Component Product of the Year awards recognise innovative designs that integrate sustainability and fill a gap in the market, in addition to a commitment to excellence and environmental considerations in today’s market. This year, how the bed product addresses a specific sleep problem has been added to the bed award criteria.

Retailers and NBF members can enter online to gain recognition and showcase their achievements.

FCE is set to be even more relevant to the UK’s furniture manufacturing supply chain

Furniture Component Expo returns to Telford International Centre on 10-11 March, and if this year’s edition is anything to go by, the 2027 show is set to be even more relevant to the UK’s furniture manufacturing supply chain. The show was larger, busier and brimming with innovation, with visitor numbers up by more than 11% and over 80 exhibitors filling Hall 1 at TIC.

‘That growth was not just a sign of a popular event: it reflected a sector actively investing in new ideas, better processes and stronger partnerships. For UK manufacturers, suppliers and designers, FCE offers something increasingly valuable: a focused environment where business conversations are direct, practical and high quality,’ says Phil Spademan, BFA md.

‘This year’s exhibitors praised the calibre of visitors and the relaxed but business-focused atmosphere, while attendees were drawn to the live demonstrations, new product launches and discussions around circular design, digital transformation and sustainable materials. In a market where efficiency, resilience and innovation all matter, that kind of targeted engagement is difficult to replicate elsewhere.’

FCE 2026 also showed the appetite that exists for forward-thinking content and hands-on interaction.

‘The Innovation Trail brought a sharper spotlight to new developments across

the show floor, while the stand design awards and networking reception helped create genuine momentum around each participant’s presence. The result was an event that felt active, collaborative and commercially useful, not simply busy.

‘That is why the 2027 early bird offer is worth serious consideration for new exhibitors. Available only until 30 June, the offer provides a 5% discount on stand space for first-time exhibitors.

For businesses looking to increase brand visibility, meet decision-makers and align themselves with a growing industry event, this is the ideal time

to secure a place. FCE 2027 will bring together the people shaping the future of UK furniture manufacturing, from component suppliers and material innovators to brands looking for better ways to design, build and deliver.

‘With momentum already established, the show is positioned as a practical platform for new business, stronger connections and fresh ideas. For new exhibitors, the early bird window offers both a financial incentive and an opportunity to be part of an event that is clearly growing in importance.’

Balance

Artisan Luxury Flooring balanced technical performance and natural materials at the inaugural The Flooring Show South

Artisan Luxury Flooring’s product development highlighted a strong balance between natural materials and technical performance. New wool ranges, including Infinity and Eternity, are made from 100% New Zealand wool and feature built-in moth protection integrated at the yarn stage.

Available from stock in 5m widths, the collections have nine neutral shades, with subtle colour variation adding depth and interest while remaining highly versatile.

Further additions include new colours to both the Lusso and Seta ranges, combining luxurious nylon construction with durability and practicality, reinforcing their popularity for stylish yet hard-wearing interiors.

Bridging the gap between these two offerings are the sophisticated Mezzo and Saronno ranges. Mezzo brings a new level of indulgence with its plush, tufted cut pile nylon, delivering understated glamour for both residential and commercial settings,

while Saronno – described by Artisan as ‘the softest solution-dyed nylon on the market’ – offers the silk-like elegance Artisan is known for, combined with exceptional durability. The solution-dyed process ensures lasting colour consistency and easy cleaning, making it ideal for high-traffic environments without compromising on softness and luxury.

Sampling and accessibility were key themes for Artisan Luxury Flooring, with QR codes linked directly to its website, allowing visitors to quickly order samples for postal delivery. The simple but effective system reflects how retailers and specifiers increasingly want to engage with products in a more streamlined, digital-first way.

Visitors could examine the six and 10-bay displays alongside updated A4 literature folders, and a clear, structured stand layout reinforced a strong focus on the interior design and architectural market.

The smaller POS format offers a more flexible and comprehensive

merchandising solution, with the dual approach allowing for in-store presentation that makes an impact with adaptability across different retail environments.

Showcase

Associated Weavers and Invictus drew the crowds

Associated Weavers and Invictus drew crowds of visitors at the debut The Flooring Show South, offering them a showcase of the latest developments in carpet and LVT. Performance, innovation and style were to the fore.

Invictus highlighted its comprehensive LVT offering, including the Maximus and Primus ranges, as well as the Ultimus

collection, which launched in November 2025. Positioned as a premium option, Ultimus features a 0.7mm wear layer, delivering exceptional durability and making it suitable for high-traffic environments without compromising on design.

Samples featuring borders, illustrating what can be done with the product,

showed the brand’s desire to innovate and listen to the market, while extra warehouse capacity means stockists can take advantage of increasing stock availability.

With more than 225 POS stands already in the marketplace, the LVT portfolio continues to perform exceptionally well, reflecting strong demand and ongoing confidence in the category.

In carpet, Aquarius took centre stage for Associated Weavers as it added to its Invictus carpet collection. Designed as a more luxurious, heavyweight Saxony construction, Aquarius builds on the success of the Aries and Taurus ranges. It is available in a palette of 10 colours and has a de-lustered matte finish, offering a contemporary, sophisticated look suited to modern interiors.

Further strengthening the Invictus line-up, two of its most successful ranges – Cassius and Darius – were previewed in an updated colour bank. The refresh enhances design flexibility and ensures the collections remain aligned with evolving interior trends.

Also debuting was Holmfirth, which joins alongside Harrogate and Coniston. Continuing the focus on quality and comfort, Holmfirth is another heavyweight Saxony carpet, engineered to provide both a soft, premium feel underfoot and durability: designed for busy homes where performance is just as important as appearance.

Engagement

Computers for Flooring thrived on engaging with retailers

‘When The Flooring Show South opened its doors for the first time, it brought with it a genuine sense of energy and opportunity. For Computers for Flooring, being part of that debut was both a privilege and a highlight of the year so far,’ says Paul Williams, Computers for Flooring technical director.

Having exhibited at The Flooring Show for many years, the company felt the new southern venue offered something different: the chance to connect with businesses that had not been able to visit Harrogate, alongside long-standing customers the team had only ever spoken to by telephone or email.

‘Putting faces to names and having real conversations on the stand made for an incredibly refreshing few days. Interest

in Carman, our multi-award-winning business management system, was strong throughout the show. A number of new contacts are now exploring the platform in depth, looking at how it could support their operations across sales, estimating, order processing, stock control, logistics and payment management. For businesses considering a move to a fully integrated system built exclusively for the flooring industry, the show provided the perfect opportunity to see Carman up close and ask the questions that matter most.

‘CarmanPay, our fully integrated payment solution powered by ClearAccept, continued to attract attention from new and existing visitors. The ability to take payments directly

within Carman – whether in-store, remotely or online – resonated strongly with businesses looking to simplify their payment processes and improve cash flow visibility.

‘Seeing that interest first-hand reinforced the direction the platform is heading. Equally rewarding was the opportunity to spend time with existing customers. Many had made the journey specifically because the southern location was more accessible, and those conversations – covering everything from day-to-day use of the system through to future development ideas – are exactly the kind of feedback that shapes the Carman roadmap.

‘The Flooring Show South delivered on its promise of bringing the industry together in a new setting, and Computers for Flooring is already looking forward to returning next year. It was fantastic to meet so many new faces and to finally sit down with customers we’ve supported for years but never had the chance to meet in person. The quality of conversations on the stand was excellent: people came with real questions about how Carman could fit into their business, and that’s exactly the kind of engagement we thrive on. The southern show has absolutely earned its place, and we can’t wait to be back next year. To everyone who visited the stand, thank you, and for those who are continuing their conversations with the team, we look forward to helping you take the next step.’

Freedom of choice

Elements Inspirations’ Basket Weave means home owners can have their floor exactly how they want it

Elements Inspirations’ Basket Weave combinations provide total freedom of choice of colour, frame size, shape and laying pattern.

The inserts of each square – regardless of pattern – can be selected with each 95mm x 380mm frame to create whatever look the homeowner wants. Box A contains the frame and box B the 142.5mm x 142.5mm inserts. Simply choose the colour for each from a range of 12 wood finishes – or go a step further and combine several colours for a unique floor.

The Basket Weave pattern has offered a striking and sophisticated aesthetic since the 17th century as a = symbol of elegance and luxury in France. Elements Inspirations has invested heavily in the latest technology to recreate the classic design, but with the flexibility of combining different colours for a truly bespoke floor, including a diagonal or straight-lay pattern.

Embossed in Register adds another level of authenticity and detail, while a commercial-rated 0.7mm wear layer

provides scratch protection from scuffs, scrapes and stains from furniture, pets and others. This helps keep the floor looking perfect for years, with only a soft brush and spray mop needed for maintenance.

The floor is also waterproof, making it suitable for kitchens and bathrooms (not wetrooms).

Milestone

TFSS saw F Ball celebrate 140 years

F Ball’s participation at The Flooring Show South as a launch partner saw it showcase the latest advancements in subfloor preparation products and adhesives for floors.

These include the latest addition to F Ball’s range of smoothing compounds: Stopgap 1400. The high-flow, fastsetting, two-component smoothing compound was created to offer superior self-smoothing properties and is walkon hard from just 90 minutes after application and ready to receive flooring from 12 hours.

The company also celebrated its 140th anniversary. It was founded in 1886 and has remained an independent, family-run business ever since.

Visitors to the F Ball stand had the opportunity to watch live demonstrations featuring Styccobond adhesives and Stopgap subfloor preparation products and win a range of prizes, including a weekend break away. Retailers and contractors also had the opportunity to sign up to the Ball Rewards loyalty programme, which enables them to claim cashback each

time they purchase F Ball products, as well as a range of exclusive benefits such as the chance to enter regular competitions and earn extra cashback on promotional products.

‘The Flooring Show South enabled us to strengthen relationships with a wider audience of industry decisionmakers, including retailers, contractors

and specifiers, and attendance figures were very strong, with more than 1,400 visitors to the show on the first day alone, so we’re pleased to be launch partners for the event. We’d like to thank everyone who took the time to come and see us,’ says Karl Brannigan, F Ball sales director.

Evolution

Retailer and consumer feedback shaped the latest Xplore+ POS

Karndean Designflooring showcased the latest evolution of its Xplore+ display at The Flooring Show South, with updates shaped by both retailer and consumer feedback.

Building on its earlier introduction, the enhanced concept placed a strong emphasis on improving the in‑store journey and making product selection more intuitive and engaging.

The updated Xplore+ brought all Karndean ranges together in a cohesive, contemporary layout. Larger sample surfaces, clearer navigation, refreshed

room visuals and integrated lighting all contributed to a more accessible experience, helping customers engage with products more confidently. Its modular design also demonstrated increased flexibility, enabling retailers to tailor the display to suit their own showroom environment.

Hands‑on interaction remains key, with large swing boards and an intuitive layout supporting easy comparison across designs. Alongside Xplore+, visitors explored the 2026 Spring Edit, including four new Van Gogh herringbone

designs, as well as exclusive previews of upcoming launches.

‘Xplore+ has been shaped by valuable feedback from both retailers and consumers. Its flexibility allows partners to create something truly inspiring, while still delivering a consistent and effective customer journey. When a display works hard for both retailer and shopper, it not only performs better but also elevates the overall showroom experience,’ says Richard Allen, Karndean Designflooring VP of sales for retail and commercial.

Kellar’s debutants came out at the show

Kellars’ stand was transformed into a metaphoric ballroom at Sandown, as debutants came out to flooring society. And they were greeted by a large and very welcoming gathering of friends – new and old.

Kellars, a launch partner for the exhibition, saw visitors aplenty, with the stand constantly busy across both days of the show, and attendees were treated to a quintet of launches.

Eloquence and Allure are 100% polypropylene Saxonies: Allure is available in 4m and 5m widths, while the 4m Eloquence is a heavyweight supersoft range.

Mayfair is a 100% wool collection, available in plain and striped designs and in 4m and 5m widths.

Seduction is a velvet-style twist with an 11mm pile height, available in a dozen shades, and was the bestseller at Sandown.

Rustico Supreme shares the colour palette of Rustico, with the tri-colour carpet having a 12mm pile height compared with Rustico’s 8.5mm. Visit: kellars.co.uk

Built for life

Ease of installation and use are joined by green credentials

Taking centre stage for Likewise at TFSS was Floorward, the easy to install, use and recycle sheet vinyl flooring. The textile backing keeps it securely in place on the floor, with no need for glue: if the user wants a new look, or is moving home, they simply roll it up and unroll the replacement, or take it with them. As a simple sheet, there are no joints to trap dirt, so keeping it clean and hygienic is easy. Life happens, but the vinyl’s top layer keeps out moisture and a lifetime warranty provides reassurance.

Made in Belgium, powered by green energy and backed with recycled materials, Floorward can be collected, shredded and turned into fresh flooring so nothing goes to landfill, as it demonstrates its circular design credentials. And this continues with what’s in Floorward: 20% mass-balanced recycled content; 10% bio-based content (Circul’Egg eggshells); 41% green energyderived content (as measured by the ISCC+ mass-balance method) and 90% recycled textile backing with Plastic Bank approval. It is phthalate-free.

Looks are just as important for Floorward. From minimal to maximal and classic to playful, users can choose

the vibe that fits their life and mood and let the floor do the talking. Its ultramatt coating has been created to take realism to the next level: no shine, no gloss, just pure design as it lets every wood grain or stone detail come to life.

There are seven concrete looks in earthy shades; seven parquet plank designs; seven wood styles; five stone options and two pattern styles. It is available in 4m widths, and has a 2.8mm depth, including a 0.55mm wear layer.

Floors by Lewis Abbot showcased

Apex, Vela and Axis, a herringbone carpet collection in three designs and five colours; an earthy colour palette for Endless Affection and the brand’s new sisal collection. The Knightsbridge mat and runner offer was expanded with festive designs, produced from recycled PET. Rugs were added to the choice, including soft-touch printed designs and a realistic printed sisal-look design. The herringbone Duracore LVT is available with a 5G fitting system.

Scratch No More has a furniture glide for almost any smooth floor Be protected

Scratch No More’s comprehensive range of furniture glides are equipped with durable polyamide fibres, so when furniture is moved across a floor, dust and dirt such as sand are absorbed between the fibres, rendering them harmless to the floor.

Other materials often used in glides, such as felt or PTFE, pick up sand and drag it over the floor, where it acts like sandpaper, causing damage to the floor.

The polyamide fibres in Scratch No More’s glides last about eight times longer than felt glides, and the glides are easy to maintain: brushing, vacuuming or wiping are all that is required to keep up their protection function.

Almost all of Scratch No More’s furniture guides consist of two parts: a base and a replaceable glide foot. The base only needs to be mounted once,

with the foot simply clicking into place, which allows for easy replacement when needed. This is particularly useful for wooden furniture legs, as they will not be compromised by repeated mounting every time the glide needs to be replaced.

Thanks to the soft polyamide fibres, all furniture glides from Scratch No More are sound-absorbing, providing an extra benefit.

The collection features a multitude of options. Along with various diameters, Scratch No More offers square, round, oval and rectangular bases for wooden or tubular legs; bases for round or flatsided cantilever legs; threaded and castor options, and leg base choices depending whether or not the leg is flat

on the floor. There are also options that prevent the glide from being removed by hand: for example, in shared space settings.

Some base and glide combinations are suitable for situations where the leg is angled up to 30deg.

As well as providing opportunities for add-on and repeat sales – and potentially saving users the cost of repairing or replacing their floor –Scratch No More’s furniture glides also provide flooring and furniture retailers customer service possibilities.

They are supported by full mounting instructions, floor care suggestions and product support, in brochure form and online.

Performance meets style

Aesthetics, comfort and durability must coexist

Through fibres, technologies and aesthetics, recurring themes emerged at the 33rd edition of Proposte.

Technical qualities and functional performance are no longer limited to the contract sector: they are becoming equally relevant in residential interiors. Durability, easy maintenance and certified flame-retardant properties remain key priorities, alongside innovations that enhance comfort and wellbeing. New fibres and finishing technologies allow fabrics to integrate antibacterial and air-purifying qualities, acoustic performance and even

olfactory properties, creating textiles that actively contribute to healthier and more comfortable spaces.

Sustainability continues to shape the industry, increasingly interpreted as a broader responsibility towards nature and supply chains. Exhibitors highlighted the importance of traceability and fibre origin, with growing interest in natural materials such as wool alongside recycled or regenerated fibres and certified products. The progressive move away from PFAS and attention to local sourcing further reflect a more conscious, transparent approach to production.

Nature was a strong aesthetic reference, influencing colours, patterns and the overall mood of collections. Earthy tones, warm palettes and motifs inspired by flora and rural landscapes evoked a timeless sense of harmony. Small decorative prints co-exist with more expressive statement designs, often drawing on historical references and reinforcing the connection between contemporary creativity and the heritage of textile manufacturers.

The possibilities of design are being expanded by advances in textile technology, particularly in digital

Crevin

printing. Increasingly sophisticated techniques allow for richer textures, more complex constructions and greater colour depth, while allowing for higher levels of customisation, encouraging designers to move beyond standardised collections towards more expressive and distinctive textiles.

The traditional distinction between indoor and outdoor textiles continues to be less defined. High-performance outdoor fabrics replicate the softness and visual refinement of indoor materials, while residential interiors increasingly demand the technical qualities typical of contract environments: textiles are designed to adapt to hybrid spaces where aesthetics, comfort and durability coexist. FABRIC AWARD LAUNCHES

The show saw the launch of the INTERNI. PROPOSTE AWARD, recognising the most innovative and noteworthy applications of fabrics across three categories.

Everyday Life features the Eidan fabric, and was recognised ‘for the use of a fabric incorporating natural fibres and for the overall coherence of a project in which product and textile are perfectly aligned’.
