SPACE 10-132 HBF and HBF Textiles return to the Mart with a 10th-floor pop-up featuring “Chapters,” an exhibition narrating the brands’ growth, conceived in collaboration with New York industrial designer Henry Julier.

Of note is Rhine, a modular collection by Ken Reinhard Design Associates. Its petite club chairs, crafted by hand, work well solo or can interlock via bridging tables; build out the scene further with corresponding standalone side, end, and coffee tables. Intriguingly, the static, swivel, or mobile chairs are composed of four distinct sections—back, seat, middle ring, and bottom ring—that can be individually upholstered for creative contrast. Alternatively, spec all sections in the same color and texture, as shown to great effect here.

patricia urquiola lights the way Pantaya, a series of sconces and pendants from the Hall of Famer for Pablo Designs—on show at Haworth—combines lightweight construction, tension, and material efficiency. Tents and athletic wear informed the 3D knit-to-fit recycled-polyester mesh, stretched over an aluminum chassis. The see-through textile functions as both shade and diffuser, creating a soft glow. space 312

For Paolo Lucidi and Luca Pevere’s third collab with the manufacturer, the Milan duo hatched Softbrick, a modular lounge system. While the generous cushiness evokes a residential aesthetic, the system is endlessly reconfigurable—thus ideal for hospitality, workplace, and public environments. Poised on a crisp plinth base (available in a curated selection of powder-coats), this serpentine design can be specified with one of myriad seat shapes and with dual seat heights if desired.

Fresh from its debut at Salone comes a revival of long-lost work by preeminent modernist Vjenceslav Richter. The Croatian architect, a founding member of the avantgarde group EXAT 51, was renowned for shaping Zagreb’s postwar architectural landscape. Now, his unrealized prototypes, sketches, and concepts come to life for the first time, tweaked for today by Prostoria’s engineers. Among them is the slender metalframe chair VR51, Richter’s earliest recorded design, and VR61, a padded bentplywood easy chair with a rakish, tilted-back posture originally conceived for the “Italia ’61” exhibition in Turin. “Limousine provides essential privacy for focused work without permanently compromising the architecture’s open sight lines”

darran SPACE 3-120 Like a Limousine, this sofa moves: The backrest rises up on demand to transform a classic, residential-style seat into a high-backed cocoon. “The initial spark came when I visited a beautifully considered space overwhelmed by high-back sofas,” designer Brad Ascalon explains. “It presented an interesting spatial paradox: The overarching goal of an open office was being defeated by the very furniture meant to serve it.” Limousine is a clever rejoinder, with a design that reads elegant, not gimmicky. “It doesn’t look like it has a trick up its sleeve,” Ascalon notes. “It’s only when the lift is engaged that it transforms into a privacy tool.” By giving end users agency to control their immediate surroundings, Limousine taps into conversations around neurodiversity and inclusive design.

As for its spatial benefits, it preserves sight lines to ensure that an open office remains truly open rather than visually obstructed.

c.f. stinson SPACE 355 Lori Roop and Lauren Kidwell of Stinson Studio debut Fine Line, a textile collection that, the designers say, “explores the expressive potential of linearity, then deliberately loosens its grip.” Think grids, broken geometric forms, haphazard lines, and texture, texture, texture! There are five offerings: bold Shape Shifter, Bubblewrap, Hustle (named after the ’70s dance), and Chopsticks, as well as the solid bouclé Softquake, crafted of 100 percent postconsumer-recycled polyester and available in 11 colorways. Overall, the series is a little bit folksy, a little bit architectural.

kfi studios SPACE 329 Union Design expands its popular Dotti lounge chair collection by launching new iterations. Among them is a fully upholstered version, in graded-in textiles or COM. “We wanted to show another side of Dotti’s personality,” Union’s Jeff Theesfeld explains. “The upholstered back offers a tailored profile while still carrying forward the soft curves and rounded forms that define the line.” Another possibility is an optional laminate surround (in white, ash, European beech, or dark chestnut) that can specified with a low profile, for an open and inviting stance, or a high one, for a bit of privacy. SPACE 345 Tom Fougere’s office accessories collection, Aster, was designed with portability in mind. The pieces are lightweight and mobile— some with casters—for use exactly where they’re needed. There’s a coat rack, a serving cart, and a personal butler (basically a wheeled side table), but the heart of the series is the planter, conceived as a “portable landscape” that can be wheeled into windowless conference rooms, the workplace cafeteria, etc. Evoking treetops rising from craggy peninsulas, it comes in three heights ranging from 7.5 to 19.5 inches…a pocket of workplace wilderness! All are constructed of sandblasted aluminum, rendering them rugged yet refined—and a bit chameleonic.

New intros for hospitality and workplace environments from the Spanish maker include Ringo, an enigmatic, seethrough cylinder designed and detailed to look like it was carved from a block of ice—but is, in fact, sturdy polycarbonate. Joan Gaspar conceived the fixture (in two models, two sizes, and four colors) for large, high-ceilinged spaces in need of bright light. Gambosa, meanwhile is a sculptural steel table lamp (in two sizes) by Mathias Hahn whose shade, stem, and base are differently hued, offering a cool color-blocked look. It’s serviced by a voluptuous cable that anchors whimsically—and counterintuitively— to the top rather than the bottom. Also being shown: the maker’s glowing-orb Dripping Light series, in new tones.

You want an acoustic solution that’s bold, colorful, sustainable, and versatile—is that too much to ask? Not with Arlecchino by Swedish colorist, designer, and art director Tekla Evelina Severin, also known as Teklan. The 30-by-30 cm tiles come in two formats: a monochromatic 3D version features a thermoformed diamond relief, while the color-blocked 2D iteration in PET felt realizes that same patten through printing alone. Both are made with recycledcontent polyester and are 100 percent recyclable. This year, Teklan also broadens Slalom’s palette, introducing soothing yet complex shades. Focusing on natural pigments, the Teklan x Slalom collection invites unexpected pairings. Her advice? “I love mixing something flirty with something a little dirty—a vivid, pastel, or pale tone paired with a deep, earthy, or muted shade.”

Leveraging technology to enhance creativity is a hallmark of the Georgiabased flooring company, and the just-launched Within Walls is a prime example thereof. The collection’s patterns were inspired by watermarks on highway walls, abstract imagery the design team initially explored via monotype screenprints using a variety of substrates—paper, linen, muslin—each of which yielded unique textures and shapes. Shaw then leveraged proprietary tufting techniques to capture those effects in the medium of 18-by-36-inch carpet tiles. The series is available in four coordinating patterns, all constructed of sustainable EcoSolution Q100 yarn and EcoWorx backing.

Grannycore goes corporate with these limited-edition versions of the company’s iconic Capisco task chairs, upholstered in Norwegian åkle— a traditional woven textile used to cover beds. A collaboration with Hilde Hoff Nordskar and her upcycling-focused studio, Recouture, the 12 oneof-a-kind seats—dubbed HÅG x Recouture Capisco—are rich in both color and heritage, as each region developed its own patterns and weaving techniques. “When I work with åkle, I think about the person who sat at the loom and the life it had before it reached me,” Hoff Nordskar explains.

The chairs, in sustainable wool, indeed capture that sense of dialogue across decades.

The Lit collection marries sound absorption and illumination, mitigating spatial overcrowding by reducing the number of things hanging from the ceiling. Developed by Michael DiTullo, head of product innovation for parent company Carnegie Acoustic Solutions, in partnership with Seattle-based Resolute Lighting, the U.S.-made system builds on iconic forms from Kirei’s existing acoustic solutions line. Baffles include V, A, O, and H shapes as well as the multisegmented Hyperfly. Made from PET containing at least 60 percent postconsumer-recycled plastic, Lit is available in over 40 colors. The system is also compatible with Kirei Ink, an in-house printing technology offering botanical imagery, natural textures, and custom graphics. A benefit of modular systems is that they can be endlessly updated and iterated. Such is the case for Foster + Partners Industrial Design, which expands on its versatile, beam-based Bay System by adding coordinating accessory elements to the mix: round ottomans, linear and curved benches, and side tables. These new intros further enhance the series’ flexibility and applicability; they’re suitable everywhere from private offices to busy public spaces and also work well with other products in Poltrona Frau’s Work-Lab portfolio. The comfy poufs, available in two heights, are surprisingly easy to move, owing to their small handle and lightweight beech-and-poplar structure. Common to the poufs and benches, whose cushy but durable padding can be covered in a wide range of PelleFrau leathers or Kvadrat fabrics, is a subtle curvature toward the base that gives units the impression of floating. The side tables come in fixed-height or adjustable versions and feature metal columns topped in oak or Fenix-NTM, a supermatte, food-safe, water- and fingerprint-resistant surface. Inspired by tailoring fabrics, the series offers patterns of different scales, encompassing stripes, checks, houndstooth, basketweaves, and micro-motifs. kvadrat acoustics The acoustics-product arm of the Danish textile giant launches a new collaboration with Foster + Partners Industrial Design at Fulton Market. Waves is a rippling, sound-dampening curtain system that slides along a flexible track to carve out hushed space (to the tune of a 12- to 15-decibel noise reduction) within open-plan environments. Depending on performance needs, the product can be specified with one or two sound-reducing inner layers; choose from seven Kvadrat textiles including Steelcut Trio 3, Remix Flow, and the justlaunched Inner Sight. A patented tape hook system controls the rhythm and alignment of the fabrics, and a newly developed rail enables silky-smooth operation in straight or curved configurations. Exhibit A is Maharam’s latest collaboration with longtime partner in crime Sir Paul Smith, Overlay Stripe, which layers crisscrossing lines of transparent color atop a solid ground to rhythmic effect. (The pattern reimagines a 2019 textile, Overlapping Stripe, by augmenting its scale and refreshing its palette.) steelcase Developed by Steelcase Health, the Apprise collection is grounded in wide-ranging research into healthcare waiting areas and related experiences, drawing from literature reviews, field observations, clinician and patient interviews, and video diaries. Answering end users’ many needs, the series encompasses bleach-cleanable guest seating, lounge seating, sleepers, gliders, recliners, and tables, all designed to work together as a unified system. The residentially inspired forms and soft contours provide intuitive support and physical and emotional comfort, while a subtly recessed frame mitigates visual heaviness, helping the furniture feel approachable rather than icily institutional. ikonstudio “There was a period from the 1950s to the ’90s when we created a series of buildings in the spirit of ‘total design’: everything from the structural system down to the furniture,” says Skidmore, Owings & Merrill design partner Chris Cooper. That meant a vast collection of extraordinary work was sitting in the firm’s archive—an opportunity that sparked a special SOM-specific collection for IKONstudio, a newly launched brand that reproduces iconic, architecturally designed furniture for current-day specifiers. First up is SOM79. Masterminded in 1979 for Halston’s New York offices and showroom in the Olympic Tower at 654 Fifth Avenue, the chair’s fluid chrome-plated frame is imbued with the fashion label’s heady glamour. A corresponding table has tubular legs forming Halston’s sleek “H” logo, visible through its glass top. At Teknion, 311 N. Until now, the task chair has been a bit of a taskmaster, compelling users to sit in one static and “correct” position. A collaboration with ITO Design, Levra breaks free from the desktop-only model, accounting for our current varying work modes, which might include tapping at a laptop or hot desking. A patent-pending knit back with weight-activated mechanism conforms to the user’s changing posture, while intuitively moving arms (also patent pending) reduce the physical friction that results from using different devices throughout the day. All the high-tech engineering is hidden behind something more human-centric: advanced structural textiles. And because sustainability is important to Allsteel, it employed a zero-waste knitting process to boot. 345 N. Morgan Street

Based on watercolor studies by Boston artist and FilzFelt cofounder Kelly Harris Smith, scanned at a whopping 1200 dpi (AKA super-high resolution!), the Color + Water collection is a sight to behold. “Translating these small, personal works into glass at an architectural scale has been a surprise and a delight,” says Harris Smith. “Much of my design work is rooted in structure and systems, so this practice is about loosening control and allowing pigment to move in less predictable ways.”

The interiors juxtapose original millwork and stained glass against contemporary Japanese touches like seaweed-green velvet stools and cherry-blossom wallcoverings. Chef Brian Lockwood, an alum of Michelin-starred Eleven Madison Park, leads a 10-course tasting menu that shifts nightly, with dishes such as chawanmushi (a savory Japanese steamed egg custard) crowned with caviar, sansho pepper duck, and hand rolls served on custom ceramic tableware by Lockwood’s longtime friend, artist Kazu Oba. 12 S. The space is soaring, with a two-story wine cellar, yet cozy, thanks to gilded details and abundant greenery. Michelin-starred Top Chef alum Soo Ahn leads the standout kitchen, where his “steak, sea, and soil” ethos yields Illinois-raised Miller Ranch Wagyu alongside prime Australian and Japanese cuts, pristine seafood, and vegetarian-friendly crowd-pleasers. Nostalgic remixes like charred lion’s mane “steak,” Wagyu corn dog with honey poppy-seed Dijon, and caviartopped “Sooper” nuggets pair with a deep bottle list, dessert martinis, and imaginative cocktails.
