For 50 years running, the Pittsburgh-based manufacturer has fulfilled its mission to beautify communal spaces. The brand’s latest collection, Eulo, reimagines placemaking by way of sculptural benches, some with integrated planters, that foster connection. Wood slats, in Cumaru or thermally modified red oak (both options FSC-certified and oil-finished), pair with aluminum frames and planter liners available in 25 RAL powder-coat colors. Ultra-versatile, Eulo’s 13 modular configurations can stand alone or link together to shape plazas, courtyards, and urban green spaces. Mimicking the bonelike structure of the human body via 23 elements connected by hinged joints, Ta.Tamu—the name means “the art of folding” in Japanese—is a feat of 3D-printed wizardry. The collapsible polyamide chair’s lithe, weblike frame is printed in its folded state during the course of a single day and can be opened with one smooth gesture. Weighing just six pounds, Ta.Tamu is the result of a longstanding partnership between Interior Design Hall of Famer Patrick Jouin and French software company Dassault Systèmes, with the goal being to use as little material as possible. “We live in an era where we produce more than we need,” notes the Paris-based designer, whose early-aughts Solid chair and One Shot stool helped define the nascent realm of 3D-printed furniture. Ta.Tamu (like its 2019 predecessor, Tamu) represents a paradigm shift in industrial design, where technology enables the creation of otherwise unattainable forms. Although Ta.Tamu was conceived as a showpiece rather than a production piece, it’s proof of what can be done with the technology—whether to make custom creations for clients or prototypes for eventual manufacture. 3ds.com

Three years ago, Max Dowd asked himself a question: “What designs might emerge when we build with what we’ve got?” That sparked a deep dive into the world of vernacular architecture, a term typically used to reference structures in rural settings built with local materials and resources. Dowd set out to apply the concept to furniture-making instead—and within the context of urban New York. The result is the minimalist steel-back Rammed chair, with a ply-topped cubic seat made of compacted construction waste. It took time to finesse the composite, Dowd recalls: “I did a failed version that cracked before I honed a better mix, with dirt sourced from the demolition site of a church in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, then sieved and compacted with a natural lime binder at my East Williamsburg studio.” Sustainable and circular, it’s an example of high design that treads lightly on the earth. vernacular.works

A limited-edition collaboration between two powerhouse Finnish brands reinvents iconic pieces by two design greats. At its heart: large-scale prints that Maija Isola created for Marimekko, now reinterpreted as marquetry in dark and light birch veneer.

The wood graining and coloration soften the original patterns’ high-octane graphic panache while giving them an entirely new dimension. Three of Isola’s most celebrated motifs make the leap from textile to timber: Kivet (uneven circles), Lokki (wiggly lines), and Serieeni (serpentine loops). Artek applies these patterned veneer treatments to three equally famous pieces by Alvar Aalto—Stool 60, Table 90D, and Bench 153B. The limited-edition series arrives at a particularly meaningful moment, as Artek celebrates its 90th anniversary this year while Marimekko prepares to mark its 75th in 2026. To further honor this milestone, Artek is also reintroducing archival treasures, most notably Screen 100, an organically curved design now offered in four heights ranging from 40 to 71 inches. Its sinuous slatted-pine form can be shaped to suit any interior configuration and rolled up entirely when not in use. Ranging from conference to guest seating, the collection extends Davis Furniture’s ongoing collaboration with German design duo jehs+laub, bringing forward their focus on clarity of form and refined execution.

To support the seamless profile, the design team reworked upholstery patterning at a fundamental level. This advance allowed fabric to wrap the continuous geometry of the seat, back, and arms as one uninterrupted surface, binding the elements 2

into a singular whole.

An injection-molded shell with molded foam seat and back provides JeLa’s durable foundation. Its sculptural profile is highlighted by perimeter top-stitching, and the conference chair carries upholstery across the underside. Together, these elements reinforce a collection conceived as a single fluid form, with its clarity of expression evident from every perspective.

Designed for settings that span from private offices and cafés to lounges and large conference spaces, JeLa is offered as a fivestar caster conference chair, a four-leg tubular steel multipurpose chair, and a four-leg wood guest chair. Each is available in mid- and low-back versions. Oak and walnut finishes are available for the wood base, while steel and caster bases come in more than 35 powder coat colors, with polished aluminum also offered for the caster base.

eskayel Lately, Shanan Campanaro has been returning to her roots. After founding Eskayel 20 years ago in Brooklyn, she’s moved back to her hometown of San Diego and opened a West Coast showroom. Located in Encinitas, California, the whitewashed space is filled with the brand’s rugs, wallpaper, and fabric, as well as dining and lounge areas for creative gatherings. The kitchen is stocked with her own family’s dishware, while turn-ofthe-century furniture nods to her father’s Italian heritage.

That ancestry also inspired a new collection of watercolor designs based on lacework made by Campanaro’s Puglian grandmother. rebecca atwood Artist and designer Rebecca Atwood has built her career on patterns, using brushstrokes, inky dots, or carved blocks to create painterly prints for textiles and wallcoverings. It’s only now, 12 years after founding her Charleston, South Carolina– based studio, that she’s gotten around to solids. But the Color collection’s three designs are more nuanced than that sounds. Take Bramble, woven from a nubby cottonwool blend. Each of its 10 colorways contains the pigments Atwood would use if she were mixing it with her paints; Chroma, for instance, looks brown but reveals flashes of green and blue up close. elisa strozyk x pernille snedker Berlin-based artist Elisa Strozyk creates what she calls “wooden textiles.” In her hands, wood is no longer a hard surface but a flexible, light-permeable material. The process begins with a thin sheet of wood veneer, often maple or ash. Strozyk laser-cuts it into small pieces and places them on a silk background; a heat-activated adhesive binds the wood and fabric together. For her latest design, Woven Waves, Strozyk collaborated with Danish artist Pernille Snedker Hansen, who specializes in hand-marbled wood surfaces. Hansen uses water and ink to marble the veneer prior to cutting, creating a swirling, fluid pattern. Recreating nature’s beauty is no simple undertaking. Yet that was the aim of Botanica, the company’s first collaboration with London-based German designer Bodo Sperlein, which draws inspiration from the intricate structures and layered elements of flora and fungi. The high level of detail was achieved through carefully selected color gradients and varying pile heights, the latter executed by skilled artisans in India who combine hand-tufting and -carving.

This meeting of hue and volume gives the 100 percent wool rugs their realistic, three-dimensional quality and sense of movement. “I’m particularly drawn to organic forms, materiality, and the relationship between craftsmanship and contemporary aesthetics,” says Sperlein, known for fusing the artisanal with the au courant. Since 1880, Taroni has been synonymous with fine luxury silk, supplying haute couture ateliers and high-end fashion brands. This year, the Como, Italy-based textile house embraces the circular economy with Taroni Laboratorio, an initiative that reimagines discarded silk from the cutting room floor as vibrant home goods that bridge traditional craft and contemporary sensibilities. At its heart are floorcoverings born from a collaboration between Milan-based American artist Lillian Grant and Italian-Moroccan manufacturer Casa Amar that employ centuriesold Amazigh weaving techniques. In some, silk knots are painstakingly hand-tied onto fine wool warps—occasionally interwoven with wool fibers to temper the silk’s inherent sheen. andrea claire studio After honing her design chops by working for such notables as David Rockwell and Frank Gehry, Andrea Claire opened her eponymous lighting studio in 2011.

The bicoastal creative’s latest collection, Totemic, draws from the symbolic language of Indigenous American totems and jewelry. Custom brass stems finished in 22-karat gold leaf, moon gold leaf, or sterling silver leaf are strung with one or more shapely paper luminaires to form a table or standing lamp or a lighting pendant. “I’ve long believed chandeliers are jewelry for a space,” explains the artist, who renders sketches into 3D models and laser-cuts the structural components, which are then assembled and handsanded at her Los Angeles studio. Diamond-shaped beads stipple the stems, catching and refracting light like a baroque necklace. “We started Palet after searching for unique ceramic tiles and finding only two extremes: massproduced options lacking artisanal quality or handpainted tiles that were prohibitively expensive and difficult to source”

palet What happens when you combine the tactility of ceramics with the aesthetics—and process—of digital design? A trio of friends with backgrounds in coding and craft founded Dutch tile studio Palet three years ago to answer that question. They developed and built a glaze printer capable of decorating ceramic tiles to order, with a 1-squaremeter minimum. “We can offer pretty much any color imaginable, which is far from the industry norm,” notes head of brand Jaap Giesen. Palet’s Glaze and Pattern library functions less like a fixed collection and more like a living system that is updated often. The process is incredibly easy: Use the company’s web-based visualizer to choose any two (of 100 available) colors and one of the nearly 30 (and counting) patterns, ranging from broken lines to vertical stripes to an abstracted camouflage—most featuring Palet’s characteristic soft gradient effect, with pleasing blurred edges. “Four expressive patterns in 20 colorways reflect Annie’s joyful, collected aesthetic”

After venturing into wallcoverings last fall, Austin, Texas–based interior designer Annie Downing now embarks on her next product launch, teaming up with Marrakech manufacturer Popham Design to devise a line of 8-inch concrete floor tiles meant for mixing and matching.

“A home is pieced together one moment at a time,” Downing muses, ticking off the myriad influences behind the range: the shadow of an oleander blossom cast onto wet cobblestone; beads of condensation dripping from a mango lassi upon a tarnished silver tumbler; Post-It doodles and birthday cakes. She translated those diverse inspirations into four geometric motifs— Antipasto, Oh-Lah, Triptych, and Echo—offered in a palette of painterly hues. Suitable for outdoor applications, too, the tiles are handmade by Moroccan artisans using custom molds and hand-poured pigments, then hydraulically pressed and air dried. Such was the case when Italian porcelain-stoneware producer Mirage collaborated with Nerosicilia, a technically advanced studio that develops custom surfaces from Sicilian lava stone and limestone. Although the two companies work with different materials, both utilize extremely high temperatures during the production process. To create Oltrenero x Nerosicilia, a collection of wall tiles, lava stone is heated to varying degrees to transform its original gray coloration to hues ranging from intense anthracite to absolute black. Applying molten recycled glass (derived from TV and PC monitors) achieves the glossy reliefs and iridescent details that decorate some iterations. Scented walls seem like something out of a dream, but they were a reality at this year’s Salone di Mobile, when the Milan-based brand collaborated with Arianna Bavuso and Andre Chedid of AB+AC architects on an installation with a unique olfactory component.

Named Martian Veil (a reference to the red planet’s hues), the reimagined terrazzo curtain wall was infused with essential oils, slowly releasing aromas of wood, incense, and eucalyptus into the air. At the same time, inlays of Rosso Verona, Verde Ming, and other marbles celebrated the material’s Italian craftsmanship. The scents brought a pleasing new dimension to Venetian terrazzo’s potential— casting it as a more evolved and high-end material. Lisbon-based Bavuso and Chedid envision several real-world applications, including monumental walls at a mountain hotel or monolithic fireplaces in a villa set in nature. Milan-based Italian designer Elisa Ossino conceived these aluminumframed pieces as an homage to the same-named UNESCO World Heritage Site in Sicily, where she grew up. “Each piece alludes to the circularity of time and a dimension placed outside a linear scanning of events,” she explains. The collection includes 12-inch-high stools in two styles that can pull up alongside a 35-inch coffee table, while a coordinating rug—also in polypropylene, woven in wide strips—adds a contrasting tone to anchor the rattan pieces.
