bohinc studio Designer Lara Bohinc’s Afternoon Tea collection celebrates the joyful and indulgent moments of the eponymous ritual. Her Trevor dining chair is pared down to essential elements—a clever assemblage of powder-coated steel rods and upholstered spheres that form the back- and (optional) armrests. The 34-inch-high chair is charmingly facelike but also has the look of a colorful brooch. That’s not surprising: Bohinc studied industrial design in Slovenia and metalwork/ jewelry at Royal College of Art in London, and has served as a design consultant to Montblanc, Gucci, Cartier, and other brands. Available in tasty red, burgundy, or mint wool, Trevor can be served with the delicious Profiterole side tables or Patisserie coffee tables. bohincstudio.com

tortuga The online design emporium ventures beyond producing its own housewares with the launch of Tuga, a curated marketplace that complements the company’s original collections with a small portfolio of home goods sourced from around the globe. “We’ve set the foundations for our brand’s designs and values,” founder Andrea Hill notes, “so we can now fill in the gaps with artisanal pieces we’ve long admired.” Makers include Mantas Cornejo, a family-run knitwear workshop in Spain, which is reissuing Oporto, a graphic merino-wool blanket, especially for the launch. The classic pattern of orange and white triangles is inspired by Portuguese tilework. Each section of the blanket is knitted, washed, and dried flat before being assembled and finished by hand, resulting in a soft yet weighty textile. The workshop has also created a striking new blanket, Cuardricula, its blue-and-white grid pattern based on a page from a graphpaper notebook complete with a red header line and binder-ring “holes.” tortugaliving.com

furniture dirty hands Founded in 2019 by Karen Yuzbashyan and Elisabeth Martirosyan, this beguilingly monikered Moscow art/ceramics studio specializes in both murals and products. Among the latter is Vertebra, a coat rack created in collaboration with the Russian designer Igor Kurkin. The ceramic form is decidedly a spine—specifically that of a whale, whose extinction-facing plight is alluded to by the dark-bronze-glazed vertebra accenting others of natural chamotte clay. “It’s like a flaw in a perfect ridge,” notes Martirosyan. Through their work, the studio’s co-founders exhort us to animal protection and environmental sensitivity: “Beauty must be in harmony with nature.” dirtyhands.ru

cc-tapis Colorful, metallic, and artisanal aren’t words often heard in the same sentence, but designer Marco de Vincenzo brings all three attributes to his new MDV rugs. Born in Sicily, Vincenzo left at age 18 to study fashion in Rome, and at 21 was hired by Fendi, where he is now head designer of leather goods. (He also launched his own label in 2009.) For this collaboration, Vincenzo translated Lurex textiles into a shimmering striped rug, the metallic yarn being new material for the brand’s artisans, who usually work with Tibetan wool. A handloom technique, native to India, was chosen instead of the more common hand knotting. The rug is available in three sizes up to 79 by 118 inches, plus a runner extending that same length. cc-tapis.com

ingo mauer Abstract art, a meeting of yesterday and today, a mash-up of analog and digital. Moodmoon, by Sebastian Hepting, is all those. The wall-mounted fixture sets the texture and translucence of Japanese paper against the cool, modern glow of LEDs. Users can select 14 different lighting “moods” and color gradients, which are curated via an app, resulting in limitless possibilities. Hepting, who has been with Ingo Maurer for 17 years, came up with the idea during the pandemic lockdown, when his own home was suddenly used for various activities with varying illumination needs—homeschooling, relaxing, and everything in between. kitchenbath dornbracht In creating the futuristic-leaning CYO, Sieger Design looked to the past: The series’ C-shape spout derives from a 1969 design in the company’s archives, its familiar form given a decidedly current-day twist. The line encompasses sleek and curvaceous faucets for sinks, bathtubs, and showers—all offered in an impressive range of platinum, brass, and chrome finishes combining glossy and matte surfaces. Fold Panels, a new suite of threedimensional, modular wall coverings from the Italian surfaces and cladding manufacturer, takes cues from Japanese design, including paper-folding and -cutting techniques and the embrace of imperfection. The three lines that make up the collection—O-Gami, U-Gami, and A-Gami—are each available in multiple folded, pleated, and stacked patterns that lend surfaces depth and shadow. Panels are assembled from precision-cut materials that minimize waste and are finished in one of 10 options, including felt, mirror, ultra-thin reconstituted wood, and Okume plywood. Topping a powder-coated aluminum-tube frame with comfy, chunky foam-rubber cushions, the pieces explore bursts of vivid color as well as the relationship between solids and voids. Ergo, they read as sculptural objects as much as functional furnishings, according to the Valencia, Spain-based designers.
