If the nameAleksadra Gaca isn’t familiar to you yet, it soon will be. This Netherlands-based Polish weaver is known for turning flat yarn into fabrics with wonderful dimensionality. For her namesake contract upholstery collection—her first—she transformed recycled cotton, post-consumer polyester, and nylon into high-performance, three-dimensional textiles. There are quilted, pillowy surfaces featuring rectangles, honeycombs, and diamonds. Colors are soft and sometimes gradient, further enhancing the visual texture. Gaca says she likes to push the boundaries of this ancient technique while honoring its emotional qualities. We can’t wait to see what’s next.
