Dear Friends, Reflecting on the past year, I am filled with deep gratitude and pride for the extraordinary work that was accomplished with your volunteerism and donations. Our mission has always been rooted in compassion, dignity, and the unwavering belief that every person deserves the opportunity to thrive. This year, that mission came to life in powerful and transformative ways.

We provided food to those facing hunger and ensured that families remained safely housed during times of uncertainty. We celebrated the achievements of single mothers who, against all odds, graduated from educational programs and stepped boldly into new chapters of their lives.

And we helped individuals find meaningful employment—opening doors to stability, purpose, and renewed hope. People like Gerald Smith.

Gerald started working with ICS’ Workforce Development team after taking care of his elderly mother for years. He did not have recent work history outside of caring for his mother and did not have his own transportation. With his background in security, our team of volunteers and staff found him a job with Avalanche Security working as a security guard at an abandoned downtown Tucson hotel. Gerald expressed his gratitude for the help he received from ICS, stating, “I appreciate the help workforce development gave me very much! I am happy to have a job. It’s something I know how to do. You guys are wonderful!”

These milestones are not just numbers or stories, they are lives changed, futures reclaimed, and communities strengthened. They are the result of tireless dedication from our staff, volunteers, partners, and supporters like you.

During our 40th year serving the community, we remain committed to helping people live more stable and independent lives. The challenges are increasing in measure, but so does our resolve. Together, we will continue to uplift, empower, and walk alongside those who need us most.

Life Advancement Programs

Giving a Hand Up! 430 participants in FY25

Through Self-Sufficiency programs, ICS works with clients to build long-range solutions that take individuals and families from crisis to sustainability.

BRIDGES FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT A 10-week course in which participants work with mentors and financial experts to create their financial future story.

GETTING AHEAD A 16-week, 50 hour program to explore solutions for navigating out of poverty, and building resources for a brighter future story.

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT Expert staff and volunteers work

one-on-one with clients through every step of the job search process.

Jeannie’s story________________________________________________________________________ Jeannie began working with Workforce Development (WFD) in early January, and just three weeks later, she landed a job with the University of Arizona’s catering service. With years of experience in the hospitality industry, Jeannie had been juggling multiple jobs but struggled to find an employer offering steady hours throughout the year. Her determination and willingness to work with the WFD team led to a successful outcome that changed her career trajectory.

Jeannie worked with staff member Pam, to update her resume, ensuring it reflected her extensive work history and highlighted her valuable skills in hospitality. “I am really grateful to Pam and Larry, for taking the time to help me with my resume. Had I not had that resume, I couldn’t have even applied,” said Jeannie.

Throughout the process, Jeannie also gained valuable computer skills, as she didn’t have 2

access to a computer before working with the team. WFD Volunteer Larry, a former HR manager, helped Jeannie apply for jobs and prepared her for interviews, providing essential support along the way. “Larry gave me the confidence, and we worked together to prepare for the interview.

After leaving here, I felt very good about myself,” said Jeannie with Larry Jeannie.

SINGLE MOM SCHOLARS A long-term support program providing financial assistance, practical services, and a peer community for scholars and their children as the women earn college degrees leading to better jobs and brighter futures.

YOUTH ENRICHMENT SUPPORT Support for families enrolled in other ICS programs, allowing children to participate in after-school sports or clubs, fine arts activities, tutoring, and more.

VITA ICS partners with the United Way of Southern Arizona to facilitate the VITA program. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is designed to help individuals and families with low to moderate incomes prepare their tax returns at no cost. IRS-certified volunteers are trained to assist with basic tax preparation and can help with electronic filing. People must fall within the scope of the VITA program guidelines which include a maximum allowable income.

Gary Henshaw is the site coordinator for VITA at ICS.

From early February through April 15, ICS gladly opens its conference room and ten office spaces on two weekday evenings and Saturday mornings. VITA is one more important way ICS helps people achieve stability in their lives.

ICS assists people in crisis with Emergency Financial Assistance (EFA) to meet acute basic needs.

Combined with short-term case management, this helps people take steps toward stability.

• Replace a state-issued ID or birth certificate • Gas vouchers, minor car repairs, and backto-work expenses; permits and uniforms

”the tipping point,” an ICS emergency financial assistance Recipient’s story________________ It started in October, when the crisp autumn air should’ve been refreshing, but instead, I found myself battling something much more dangerous than the usual seasonal cold. I had blood clots forming, starting in my groin and traveling down to below my knee. Alongside that, my blood sugar levels were out of control, and my A1C came back at a staggering 15.5. I knew something wasn’t right, but I never expected it to be this bad.

I had always kept things in check, or at least thought I had. But the weight of those numbers, the doctors’ concerned faces, and the overwhelming feeling of losing control of my health all at once—it hit me hard. I couldn’t keep going like this.

And worse, it meant time away from work.

The days turned into weeks as I struggled with doctors’ appointments, treatments, and trying to manage my condition. The more I focused on getting better, the more the world around me seemed to crumble. No work meant no paycheck, and by the time I could finally get back on my feet, the rent was overdue, and I was falling behind fast.

I thought I could make up for lost time. I returned to work, weak but determined. I told myself it was going to be okay, that I could catch up on everything. Just when I thought I could push through,

I fell ill again. And without warning, I lost my job.

I was sinking. Each time I tried to pull myself up, something dragged me back down. The fear of losing my home became overwhelming. I had no idea how I was going to make it. The rent was now more than overdue, and the weight of everything— my health, my finances, my future—felt like it was too much to carry.

Then, just when I thought I was at the end of my rope, I got a call. It was from Interfaith Services. I didn’t even know they knew my situation, but they did. They offered to pay two months of my rent.

Two whole months. It was a lifeline, and it felt like a weight lifted off my chest. This unexpected act of kindness meant I wasn’t going to be homeless.

I still had a long road ahead—getting my health back on track, finding a new job, and rebuilding— but that phone call was a turning point. I wasn’t alone in this fight. The support I received from strangers who cared gave me the strength to keep moving forward. And with that new hope, I promised myself that no matter how difficult things got, I would keep going. Because even when life feels like it’s pushing you to the edge, there are people out there who will help you find your way back.

Where It Comes From The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) A federal program that helps supplement the diets of people with low incomes.

The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona Grocery Rescue Every morning, ICS volunteers visit grocery stores and bakeries to pick up food that is donated because it is unlikely to sell before its expiration date. Instead of going into a landfill, this food is diverted to people in need.

Food drives and individual donations by faith communities, partner organizations, and other friends of ICS. ICS Purchase A portion of each year’s budget is allocated for bulk purchases of staple foods that have not been collected in sufficient quantities through grocery rescue or food drives.

Cody’s Friends This Tucson-area nonprofit donates dog and cat food so furry family members can be fed as well.

How It is Distributed Northwest Food Bank Our brick-and-mortar food bank is open six days a week, with morning, evening, and weekend hours to accommodate various schedules.

Mobile Food Bank This custom-built refrigerated truck visits fourteen sites around Tucson to distribute food to clients living in food deserts or with no means to travel to a traditional food bank. It provides a full food bank experience.

Free Produce Giveaways From November through May, ICS coordinates six Free Produce Giveaways each month at sites around Tucson. These events ensure that rescued produce and other food items get to those who can use them.

Senior Services

Mobile Meals Volunteer Bob delivers to David.

Senior Services help older and disabled adults live independently in their own homes, without the need for institutional care. ICS volunteers provide essential support services while also offering social contact that helps keep recipients healthy and connected.

Food

Transportation Mobile Meals

Volunteers deliver fresh, nutritious meals at lunchtime every weekday, along with a second meal to eat for dinner.

Rides are provided to medical appointments and grocery shopping.

Frozen Meals

A week’s worth of frozen meals are delivered once a week to the recipient’s home or to the Marana Senior Center for pick up.

Food Box Delivery

Boxes of fresh groceries and pantry staples from the Food Bank delivered once a month.

Grocery Shopping

Transportation volunteers shop using a list and method of payment provided by the recipient.

Groceries are delivered to the recipient’s home.

Volunteers

Since the beginning, volunteers have been the heart of ICS. Our programs and services would not be possible without the skills, dedication, and service of hundreds of incredible volunteers.

Volunteers come from diverse backgrounds, traditions, and life experiences, all with a commitment to our community and a desire to share kindness and compassion with others.

Currently at ICS there are 49 different job descriptions for volunteers. They take advantage of the vast experience and varied skills of the volunteer corps to meet the needs of tens of thousands of our neighbors in Southern Arizona.

Interfaith Community Services was founded in 1985 by six faith communities who realized they could accomplish more good working together than separately. Working side by side, we are able to do more than any one individual congregation can do.
