O
n Wednesday, October 30th I was given the opportunity to experience TECMUN XXI alongside the students who represented Instituto La Paz at the Tec de Monterrey.
watching as their perspectives changed.
I saw a myriad of different emotions reflected in their faces, from the over excitement of a school trip on the bus to the seriousness throughout a moderated caucus.
As I sat with the children during the closing ceremony, there was a treasuring moment when Edgar Franco received an Honorific Mention for his work within the League of Arab States and as he walked up to receive his award our children at that moment came together as one.
It was astonishing to see that those young and, at times, innocent faces could express a rollercoaster of emotions all in one day.
They finally understood how each had played their part and that all their hard work had been truly worth it.
As the day went on, I was able to observe the eleven delegates at work, debating, negotiating, mingling with the other ministers during the closed sessions and
They will each take away different experiences from this event but mine will be how a group of children came together and supported each other.
BIG BROTHER / BIG SISTER HALLOWEEN ACTIVITY AT LA PAZ
A
n ancient tradition came to be celebrated among PYP and MYP students, Halloween. For this activity, PYP students decorated a stick puppet with the help of their MYP school mates. The secondary students were very responsible, imaginative and interacted well with the younger ones. They were careful and attentive with their “little classmates” that they were working with and one could see that they both had a great time and created not only a puppet but also a meaningful bond.

Julia Donaldson

estselling author Julia Donaldson has over 140 titles to her credit. Her work includes critically acclaimed titles such as Room on the Broom, The Snail and the Whale, The Princess and the Wizard, The Dinosaur’s Diary, and The Giants and the Joneses, which is scheduled to be made into a motion picture. Julia came from a musical background. Her father played the cello and her mother loved to sing. Julia and her sister were in a Children’s Opera Group and from an early age, she wrote musical plays for her friends and family to perform. Her first book, A Squash and a Squeeze, was based on one of her television songs. “It was great to hold the book in my hand without it vanishing in the air the way the songs did,” says Julia. A Squash and a Squeeze was illustrated by Axel Scheffler, who also illustrated The Gruffalo, Room on the Broom, The Snail and the Whale, and others. Ask for her books in our library today!

eeling the desire to help other people is a beautiful emotion. It is about knowing we are able to overcome our desires, selfish ones at times, in order to aid those who need a helping hand. This action is, without a doubt, the best trait within humans. When we help selflessly, we earn something great in return. It could be from a simple anecdote to treasure or the ultimate prize of a smile and hope coming from that person who was helped. That is a true motivation which makes our lives meaningful. The community at Instituto La Paz is invited to donate groceries, hygiene supplies, clothes and toys to be handed in by secondary school students along with professors, parents and alumni who have made this task become a delight taking place every year. Instituto La Paz is proud to see its enthusiastic students organise activities to integrate children from the communities they visit, they prepare games, break “piñatas”, give away candy and not only this, but also a very joyous moment of sheer fun.
Encouraging this trait of community service provides students with the will to aid selflessly and to be aware of the necessities of others above theirs. This is an attitude to cultivate nowadays in these generations. We, as parents and professors, ought to be active supporters of these tasks setting an example day by day. Frozen flower pops When your kids are wilting on a hot day, these fruity flowers will perk them right up.
Ingredients - Fresh pineapple - Watermelon - Green apple
Instructions Make the petals by cutting notches in a 1/2-inch-thick fresh pineapple ring, then place a watermelon ball in the center. For a leaf, skewer a slice of green apple, then push the skewer stem into the pineapple. Place the flower on a wax-paper-covered tray, cover with plastic wrap, and freeze for about 1 hour.
