About us

The UPV is recognised as a university that contributes to the innovation of companies and other entities in our society. To this end, the institution trains people with an innovative and entrepreneurial spirit in its teaching centres and generates knowledge and technology that it transfers to society and the socio-economic environment from its research units.

To make it easier for this contribution to innovation to reach society, the UPV-Innovation Knowledge Transfer Office has been set up, which has several specialised units that promote and channel the relationship with companies and institutions.

Staff Training

The Lifelong Learning Center (CFP) of the Universitat Politècnica de València was established in 1991 with the aim of connecting the university with its environment in the field of lifelong learning. Today, the CFP has become a national and international benchmark in the provision of lifelong learning opportunities. The CFP is responsible for organizing and supporting the university community in its lifelong learning initiatives, both in their conceptualization and management, as well as in their technical development. It acts as an interface between the university and society, adapting its educational offerings to the demands of the labor market and the social environment. Additionally, it provides support to lifelong learning students from registration in training activities to certification.

The Universitat Politècnica de València offers a personalized training service for companies and organizations. This service is managed through a specific agreement between the UPV and the company, allowing for tailored training programs. The Research, Innovation and Transfer Promotion and Support Service (I2T) is the leading unit of the UPV's Knowledge Transfer Office. Its mission is the corporative promotion of the UPV's R&I as well as the protection, valorisation and transfer of its research results.

Match-UPV EVENTS are dynamics that allow connecting companies and research andinnovation groups in order to add value to products, services and people with joint R+D+i projects between companies and the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV).

What do the events consist of?

The Match-UPV dynamics are organized in face-to-face, virtual or mixed mode where the company presents its strategy and innovation challenges to be solved. Subsequently, several groups, startups and spinoffs of the UPV respond with their capabilities to address innovative solutions to these business challenges. This “match” exchange is intended to promote collaboration and relations in R&D&I between the parties with the aim of developing fruitful projects in the medium and long term.

HumanTech Institute at UPV

Institute of Telecommunication and Multimedia Applications

The Institute of Telecommunications and Multimedia Applications (iTEAM) is the University Institute specializing in Telecommunications Technologies at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV). It is located in the UPV’s City of Innovation (CPI), where it develops R&D projects to generate new knowledge and innovation projects aimed at business.

iTEAM participates in a large number of competitive projects funded by public funds at the regional, national, and European levels, while maintaining a close relationship and numerous agreements and projects with companies. iTEAM encompasses five major areas of knowledge within Telecommunications technologies: Wireless Mobile Communications, Photonics, Signal Processing, Antennas, Microwaves and Propagation, and Multimedia Communications.

iTEAM has a staff of over 100 PhD researchers and more than 2,500 m² of laboratories and infrastructures, for the development, validation and measurement of telecommunications equipment. Notable among these infrastructures are the Photonics Research Labs, the Immersive Communications Laboratory, and the iTEAM collaboration in the management of the European Space Agency (ESA) High Power RF Laboratory through the Val Space Consortium.

iTEAM is an internationally recognized center for its participation in European and international projects, with representation on the committees of associations such as One6G, URSI, the Spanish section of AES, EUCNC, SNS, 5G-MAG, EurAAP, the National Committee on Antennas and Health in Spain, WiTAR, and TPC BGPP of the Optica association.

Moreover, iTEAM stands out for its technology transfer activity, with over 50 patents, the creation of 10 technology-based companies (spin-offs and start-ups), and the training of talent in the latest technologies through the supervision of more than 200 doctoral theses. Recently, it also launched the PERTE Chip Chair for Photonic Chips.

R&D activity at CBIT focuses on the engineering of the cell-material interface. We develop and manufacture new material-based systems of biomedical interest, where the combined use of biomaterials with cells and biochemical and physical factors overcomes limitations in current solutions in tissue engineering, drug delivery or in vitro modelling of healthy and pathological tissues.

Promoting the creation of UPV spinoffs

Spin UPV promotes and develops spin-off companies generated from the knowledge and scientific and technological results of the UPV.

The programme contributes to renewing the economic fabric of the Valencian Community. To this end, SPIN UPV offers an itinerary of 8 advisory and training sessions that will accompany research teams wishing to transfer their scientific and technological results to a real company with value for the market and society during 2024.

The Universitat Politècnica de València understands spin-offs as the most complete and effective mechanism for technology transfer. In this process, both research results and the talent and capacity of the creative teams are made available to the company.

The company also contributes to the creation of an innovative and knowledge-based economic fabric. The UPV offers these companies, some of which are owned by the UPV and others not, the brand "Spin-off UPV", which allows them to be recognised and differentiated.

Initially developed for the International Small Wind Turbine Contest (ISWTC) in the Netherlands, the project showcases innovative engineering solutions in renewable energy. With a multidisciplinary team of engineers, Eolia UPV specializes in creating customized wind turbines based on wind profiles and local conditions. HYPERLOOP UPV

Hyperloop UPV is an innovation team from the Universitat Politècnica de València that has been developing during nine years hyperloop technology, designing every year a prototype which gets closer to the concept of the fifth way of transport, that combines the high speeds of airplanes with the comfort of traveling on a train, moving through a tube with pressure near to vacuum.

Pluton UPV is a multidisciplinary project carried out by students from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, with the objective to design, assemble, validate and test a 2U CubeSat. Pluton UPV is currently developing Estigia. This satellite is a technological demonstrator of the capabilities of Artificial Intelligence embedded within a spacecraft. Estigia carries an innovative payload consisting of a chatbot capable of conversing with users in Earth by using a small ground terminal composed of a transceiver and antenna kit. The chat user interface is provided by a crossplatform application developed in-house. In a future, similar systems could possibly be used to implement efficient large language models in manned spacecraft, where communication with Earth might not be instantaneous.

The group's main objective is to design and manufacture ultra-high efficiency prototype vehicles for use in the annual competition named Shell Eco-marathon, organised by the Dutch oil company Shell throughout the world. With our prototype we have been participating for the last 20 years in the internal combustion category using bio-ethanol as fuel to obtain the highest efficiency and lowest fuel consumption, with our current record being 1294 km/l.
