It is indeed a great honour and privilege for me to introduce the first issue of FUTOURISTIC. This innovative project shall be a cross between a scholarly journal and a professional magazine. It intends to inform readership about the latest research and state of affairs in tourism, hospitality, heritage and other cognate sectors both at local and international level.

FUTUORISTIC is a reaction of the Institute of Tourism Studies against the unfortunate and unprecedented situation of the current pandemic which left the aforementioned sectors badly curtailed. This endeavour should not only be considered as an important contribution to the revival of these sectors but it should also be seen as a way of how any scarification left by COVID-19 may be transformed into an opportunity that will gradually and sustainably lead Tourism, Hospitality and Heritage to their former glory and stronger

The editors will also reach out to established scholars and professionals working in or researching on Tourism, Hospitality and Heritage, offering a space where they can systematically address the frontiers of trends in these fields.

Each piece of work will be rigorously reviewed and evaluated in light of a number of important elements which include but are not limited to: innovation and originality of its contribution; publishable standards; significance of the theoretical and practical contribution towards the field of Tourism, Hospitality and Heritage; and its quality of presentation.

This journal would not have seen the light of day hadn’t it been for the indefatigable work of the Editorial team led by the Executive Editor and supported by the ITS Academic Research and Publications Board, all of whom work voluntarily to ensure high quality publishable material. This is our humble contribution to the field of Tourism, Hospitality and Heritage and we sincerely hope that it will serve as a model for other Higher Education Institutions to follow suit.

This may lead to a revision of the study unit descriptors to match the competence required to link the learning outcomes to the occupational standards by using the JOC-KS Tool. By doing so ITS will be providing multiple benefits for all stakeholders.
