What is Dementia? Explore key dynamics of aging and the brain, with an emphasis on the scientific overview of Alzheimer’s & related forms of dementia. We’ll highlight some common symptoms and techniques to manage them.
Communicating Creatively Explore practical techniques for maintaining presence and fun in your interactions with your family member living with memory impairment. We’ll highlight communication techniques to support conversation, connection, and relationships between care partners and their loved ones living with Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementias.
Working Through Distressing Behaviors Participants will learn new ways to support a loved one through the freshening-up process, sleeping through the night, and when a family member may be walking about and at risk of walking out of their environment unattended.
Creating hope and meaning through leisure We will explore the meaning of Ambiguous Loss and how it differs from other losses. Participants will explore the signs and symptoms of ambiguous grief and learn leisure-based coping skills that can increase hope and resilience on the caregiving journey. Participants will receive resources for ongoing support.
Self-care and stress prevention strategies Participants will explore self-care and stress prevention strategies rooted in the evidence-base and the experience of other carers. Emphasis will be placed on exploring (and bending) family rules and dynamics, channeling energy into constructive endeavors, and enjoying healthy outlets for coping and reinvigorating along the journey.
Making Connections During Family Gatherings We will discuss creative strategies for self-care and involving individuals living with memory impairment with planning, preparing, and celebrating meaningful events with friends and family. Inspired Memory Care will gift participants free take-home activities to share with loved ones.
