Computer Science In The Curriculum

Computing is part of the school curriculum In our Junior School, formal Computing lessons/Digital Literacy are delivered from Year 1 upwards In Senior School, all pupils in Years 6 to 9, Pre-Diploma and General Diploma follow a Digital Literacy course Computer Science is an IGCSE option for Years 10 to 11 IGCSE pupils and offered as a Group 4 subject in Years 12 to 13 IB Diploma .

Technology For Learning

St George’s International School endeavours to provide the highest level of excellence for its pupils . We encourage our pupils to learn independently as this will prepare and equip them with the necessary skills required at university level and beyond

As a school we recognise that electronic devices can be used as pedagogical tools . The Bring Your Own Device policy (BYOD) is designed to ensure that all learners in the Middle and Senior Schools are equipped with laptops in all lessons to fully engage in all learning opportunities and that they are aware of what constitutes appropriate use of technology for learning, following the ITSE Standards for Students Technology for Education opportunities will be able to extend outside of the classroom and ensure pupils always have access to learning resources and in all places .

From Interactive Whiteboards to laptops, class cameras and microphones to assist hybrid learning, the school computing network using wireless technology throughout all areas in school allows learning to be interactive to enhance our pupils’ learning . In the

Junior School, iPads (Foundation Stage to Year 2) and Chromebooks (Years 3 to 5) are available for pupil and teacher use . In Middle Schools class sets of laptops are available for years 6 All computers are fitted with monitoring software .

When pupils are unable to attend class in person but feel well (such as needing to self-isolate), online learning can be made available if appropriate . Pupils requesting this should notify their tutor or Head of School .

Electronic Devices

As stated in our BYOD and Use of Technology policy, the school recognises the increasing value of electronic devices and encourages their use for educational purposes .

Our “Bring your own device and use of technology policy” defines clear guidelines and stages of implementation:

• All pupils in Years 10 to 13 were asked to bring their own laptops from September 2019

• From January 2020, BOYD was gradually implemented for pupils in Years 7 to 9 .

• From January 2020 St George’s became a mobile phone free school during the working day for all pupils . Pupils may bring phones to school but need to keep them locked in their lockers from 8 00am – 3 50pm

• From April each year, Year 6 pupils are required to bring a suitable laptop computer to school to ensure a smooth transition into Year 7 .
