BEHAVIOUR FOR LEARNING

JUNIOR, MIDDLE AND SENIOR SCHOOL RULES
• Ready
• Respectful
• Safe
These three rules provide the basis of the Whole School Behaviour for Effective Learning Policy
They will be consistently referred to across all year groups and receive attention at the beginning of each school year and during life skills lessons .
St . George’s is a community and as such it has its rules and regulations These are designed to bring order and harmony to our lives . Each pupil is expected to conform to the rules In this way pupils learn the value of community life while at the same time developing their own sense of independence . Therefore, during all school activities, on or off campus, you should be:
Ready
• Punctually attend all classes/activities
• Attend class with appropriate materials
• Be responsible for your own learning .
Respectful
• Behave with respect for all people and property
• Follow the rules of each classroom teacher/all adults working in school .
• Seek changes in an orderly, recognised manner (e .g ., Pupil Council) .
Safe
• Follow instructions carefully
• Move sensibly around school .
• Know who to go to for help and support, in school, online and outside
Boarding School Rules are found in The Rules and Privileges Handbook for Boarders, which are issued to every pupil in the Boarding House .
Dress Code
• Pupils must always be appropriately dressed and are expected to take pride in their appearance when wearing any item of school uniform . Pupils must wear the correct uniform during class and on certain formal occasions .
• Valuable jewellery or clothes (and other possessions) must not be brought to school One neck chain and one wrist bracelet worn beneath the school uniform is acceptable .
• Pupils are expected to be mindful of their personal hygiene and general appearance Pupil appearance must be tidy and smart .
• Hair should be worn tidily and of a manageable length
• Facial hair is not allowed
• For reasons of health and safety, all pupils are required to wear appropriate shoes when on school property . Pupils must wear black or navy-blue flat shoes . No pupil may wear platform or wedge-heeled shoes, high heels or flip-flops . Trainers which are entirely black, including their soles, are permitted
• Visible body-piercing, other than one pair of ear studs, is forbidden .
• Only natural hair colours are allowed
• Hats may not be worn in school buildings
• Skirts must be worn knee length .
• From Year 8, pupils may wear discreet make-up .
• Coloured nail varnish is not permitted . Any pupil considered to be inappropriately dressed will be required to change their clothes . Parents will be contacted, and pupils may be requested to go home to change or purchase new uniform at the school shop .
Personal Behaviour
Respectful
• St George’s International School will not tolerate any form of harassment whether based on gender, race, nationality, age, disability, religion, or for any other reason .
• Pupils will not verbally and/or physically assault other pupils, school visitors, or members of staff .
• Bullying is not tolerated at St . George’s .
• Disruptive behaviour is unacceptable .
• Pupils will not take any item which does not belong to them and are responsible for their own property . Pupils are provided with a locker for use of personal and study items . Pupils are strongly advised to bring padlocks for their lockers to keep their belongings secure when they are not present .
• There should be no inappropriate displays of physical affection or intimate relationships between pupils .
• A pupil will not deliberately damage, destroy or deface school property Any damage must be reported immediately
• No pupil may be absent from class, meals, activities or compulsory sports without the authorisation of a member of staff
• Any pupil who makes a commitment to a school activity is expected to honour this commitment (Productions, clubs, etc .)
• Anyone discovering a fire must report it immediately to the office (Phone Nr 20) or to a teacher All doors and windows are to be closed
• Everyone must leave the building silently as quickly as possible by the nearest exit and assemble in the designated area
• Pupils may not use phones/mobile devices during the school day, 8 15am – 3 50pm
• Lost property is to be handed in to the school office All items must be clearly labelled .
• Chewing gum on school premises is not permitted
• Food is not to be removed nor consumed outside the dining hall . Water only may be consumed from a plastic or metal bottle
Safe
• Pupils are prohibited from involvement in any gangrelated activity .
• Pupils will not use, be under the influence of, or have in their possession on school property or at school activities, alcoholic beverages, drugs or other substances forbidden by the school . Any pupil suspected of being under the influence of a drug will be required to take a drug test . Random testing will be carried out at regular intervals
• St . George’s is a non-smoking campus and pupils may therefore not smoke nor possess tobacco This includes electronic cigarettes .
• No pupil may leave the campus without permission .
• Running in the corridors is not allowed
• Sitting on window ledges and balcony railings is not allowed .
• The school roof is strictly out of bounds
• Pupils are not allowed to use, hire or leave a car on the school premises .
Possible Sanctions Include

UNIVERSITY DISCLOSURE
When a pupil applies to a university, any behaviour or academic dishonesty in Senior School resulting in an external suspension or exclusion will be reported to university admissions offices as requested
All parents and children from Year 3 upwards must sign a Policy and Conduct form valid for their time at St George’s
Discipline issues arising outside of the official school hours and when children are no longer under the direct supervision of teaching staff should be dealt with by parents .
