Here at Inspiration 4 Life, we are a judge free zone and love to give others the opportunities to also live their dreams and passions. We have been trying to make this dream come true since 2010 but with so many obstacles in the way, this journey had been on standstill for many years. We are here now and we inspire you to never give up on your Dreams!

THE JOYS OF FATHERHOOD

BY DAWN HUFF I don’t know if it is my 40th Birthday fast approaching or Father’s Day around the corner that has me reminiscing about first being married to my husband, and then seeing him with each of our babies for the first time. I remember how he was the one caring for me through the delivery, tenderly standing beside me. He had a look of worrying that I had not yet come to recognize as his love and protection. He was the first to hold each of our children and the one to introduce them to me face to face, tenderly leaning them in so we could touch cheek to cheek and I could bestow their first motherly kisses. He followed them around the hospital making sure that their firsts would be witnessed and their care would be complete and they would return to my arms swiftly.

I remember telling him about the expectation of our first. I was worried to tell him that our plans we were carefully laying ahead of us would be sent into a whirlwind. Isn’t that how the best plans work the best? To break the news, I brought him a gift… a Baby Names Book. He lit up with sheer joy! He was determined to narrow it down right then and there and we spent the rest of the day going through just about every chapter, A to Z. My husband came from a long line of great dads. So maybe he had some of that joy that fatherhood brings already built into his DNA. He was an answer to my prayers at a time in my life when I could have made a very different decision on the direction of my life. Our years together have been far from perfect or predictable but I can’t imagine a better husband for me or dad for our family. I love you Babe-a-licious!

I reached out to some friends with great dads in their families and was excited to get back some tips to encourage a dad to be great today: 1. Pray for Him, every day!

2. Allow him to find his own way to dad…he doesn’t have to do everything exactly like you. Dads can be brilliant and efficient!

3. Leave the house and let him fin for himself with the kiddos. They need the bonding time and kids are strong survivors! Trust me they will be fine without you.

4. Never ever let the kids divide you. Discuss parenting matters in private. Kids can sense weakness.

5. Do things he wants to do, as a family. (I guess I need to play more board games.)

6. Read a parenting book or join a parenting class/group together.

There were even a couple tips for parents with grown children: 7. Send him to go out with the kids alone. (Especially with sons and sons-in-law. My friends say Father-son time is a valuable time for men that are grown too! Gives them time to help them navigate being a husband and dad with someone who has been through it. *Why wait…I should send my husband to have a day out with his own dad.)

8. One friend says she likes to pick up little gifts when thinking of her grown children. Often, she passes them to her husband to give to them from himself. It really blesses him to see the joy on their face and allows him to learn more about what kind of things they like.
