Speak Up For Safety
Jabrea Childers, R.N., Vineland 2 East, earned Great Catch of the Month when she was caring for a patient with a medication order for penicillin. While the medication bag matched the order, Childers applied a questioning attitude and took a STAR moment to validate and verify the actual bag contained penicillin, and found that it was a heparin bag with a penicillin label. Childers spoke up for safety and escalated her concern to the assistant nurse manager, who contacted the pharmacy to send the correct medication.
