As an organization, we experienced a great amount of change as we focused on setting a clear path for Inspira’s future with the announcement of our new strategic plan. As a community, we focused largely on uniting and recovering... from the COVID-19 pandemic, from the damage Hurricane Ida caused in our community, and more. Your support showed us that – despite the inevitable change and hardships that life may bring – you remain committed to improving the health of our community.

The Blueprint to Help Fuel Our Organization’s Future Looking Ahead with Inspira’s New Multi-Year Strategic Plan Strategic plans are blueprints for change that outline key areas of focus to help fuel our organization’s future.

At Inspira, previous strategic plans have guided us to critical mergers and acquisitions, openings of new and expanded campuses and meaningful revenue growth – securing our foothold as one of the region’s leading health care organizations.

As the health care landscape experiences significant changes, we must continue to evolve, as well. Our organization has taken an introspective look at its current state and where it can refine, refocus, and reimagine a sustainable path to growth.

Inspira Health’s new strategic plan marks the beginning of a pivotal moment for Inspira. It sets a clear path to deepen our clinical excellence, enhance quality and safety, and elevate the patient experience to build affinity with patients in our community by outlining the following five strategic domains of focus: Quality/Clinical Excellence, Patient Safety & Experience of Care Providing safe and compassionate care is at the core of our mission. We are committed to providing every patient with high-quality clinical excellence. These components are intertwined: improving clinical performance will not only enable us to elevate the quality and safety of our care, but also improve and sustain the patient experience across every department, at every moment.

Medical Staff & Physician Platform At Inspira we are always looking for ways to expand and elevate our network to best serve the community – from new service lines, to new offerings, and even new geographies.

One of our critical growth opportunities as an organization is through an expanded physician network. Our goal is to grow and deepen Inspira’s Medical Staff, specifically via primary and specialty care, as well as independent and employed corps of physicians. As a bigger and greater medical team, Inspira can better leverage the value of medical staff and physicians across the network and increase their engagement.

Patient/Consumer-Centric Accessibility and Convenience The patient experience is the cornerstone of our work, and it is also key to building affinity and loyalty with our patients and the larger South Jersey community. By matching – or exceeding – patients’ expectations, we can further engage with them, building relationships and increasing loyalty across the network. We will evaluate how patients interact with Inspira, so we can better understand a patient’s journey and enhance how we meet their expectations.

Talent Acquisition, Development & Retention, Cultural Engagement Inspira’s greatest asset is our people. To strengthen our employee culture and be a preferred place to work, we will refine the way we approach talent acquisition, development, retention, and engagement. Our goal is to establish and promote a supportive, inclusive culture focused on developing employees by building strong, dynamic teams while helping employees reach their personal and professional goals. By creating new ways for how we partner with our employees, Inspira can foster new and emerging leaders to support the future of the network.

Population Health Management and Community Health Our responsibility to deliver safe, high-quality care extends beyond our network walls to our broader South Jersey community. This domain is intended to address this need head-on — to help us identify the needs of our community and design our population health management programs to meet them. By better understanding the community’s needs, we can provide resources that support a healthier population through wellness, prevention, and disease management.

This will enable us to refine our existing framework to better improve the health and wellness of our community members.

Reigniting Passion The mission, vision, and values of an organization are the foundation of what its employees do every day.

With a new strategic plan developed, it was time for Inspira Health to reassess and re-evaluate our existing mission, vision, and values.

We asked employees to provide feedback about their perception of the organization, reviewed our history, studied best practices, and considered regional and national health care statements. We have now established mission, vision, and values statements that better reflect the current and future state of Inspira.

The new mission, vision, and values will realign and reignite our organization’s passion to provide quality care and a high-level patient experience, while uniting all of us – regardless of campus, service line, unit, shift, or department – under these core principles. They are designed to inspire us and center every team member around a redefined common purpose.

Launching the Cardiac Campaign Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the country, causing one of every four deaths. The most common type of heart disease is Coronary Artery Disease, which is caused by the build-up of cholesterol and fatty deposits inside the arteries that can block, clog, or damage the arteries and limit or stop blood flow to the heart.

Each year, about 600,000 people in the United States undergo a percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), a procedure that opens blocked coronary arteries and restores blood flow to the heart without open-heart surgery. A PCI can be performed in an emergency, but also in an elective setting, as a preventive procedure in the case that your cardiologist suspects you have heart disease.

In February 2021, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed a bill enabling the Department of Health to license community hospitals to provide full-service PCI. This long-awaited legislation has opened the door for Inspira Health to make elective PCI available to many who previously did not have access to this vital service in their own community.

Now, Inspira can elevate its existing cardiac expertise and infrastructure to provide additional cardiac treatments for greater patient outcomes.

The All Heart campaign is a network-wide effort to elevate Inspira’s cardiology services and provide a high-quality patient experience to all community members. With your philanthropic support, our team will be able to expand Inspira’s breadth of cardiac services across our system to ensure community members have access to life-enhancing – and often life-saving – care close to their homes.

The Inspiring Story of Jeff & Valerie George Three years ago, Valerie’s husband, Jeff, was simply not acting like himself. “Generally, he was awake by 5:00 a.m., working out early, running off to work by 7:00 a.m., and back home at about 8:00 p.m. – so I was concerned when he was sagging a bit, too tired to do activities he used to relish. I was certainly not used to seeing him lying on the couch in the afternoon. This was a man who was 44 years old and ran 100 miles a month.”

Valerie kept a close eye, and her instincts were on target. Valerie compelled Jeff to seek help and he did, ultimately undergoing a stress test that revealed a 99% blockage. Dr. Kurt W. Kaulback, Clinical Director of Cardiovascular Services for Inspira Health, performed an angioplasty and Jeff George was temporarily out of the woods.

“I was alerted the stent procedure was a temporary fix, and when symptoms began to resurface, I underwent triple bypass surgery and an intense cardiac rehab process,” said Jeff. “Frankly, I was incredibly fortunate. I underwent the angioplasty procedure at Cooper because I couldn’t at that time at Inspira – and if time was an issue, outcomes might have been different. So, when elective angioplasty delivered by skilled professionals in a stateof-the-art setting became an opportunity for Inspira Health, I jumped on board to help in any way I can. The preservation of life is a sobering, ambitious, and precious trust. It is wonderful to place it in the hands of the people at Inspira.”

Signature Events The annual Golf Classic at Tavistock Country Club and the Golf Tournament at Seaview Hotel & Golf Club, both presented by Archer Law, gave our most loyal supporters the opportunity to enjoy a day of golf and friendly competition.

The funds raised by both outings help Inspira provide the highest-quality health care to those living in our region. The Golf Classic, held in May at Tavistock, exceeded expectations by raising over $215,000 and the Golf Tournament, held in September at Seaview, also surpassed its established goal by raising more than $250,000 to support the health and wellness of South Jersey communities.

Deborah F. Sager Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) In February 2021, a local mom went into premature labor…with triplets! Ready for anything, the Deborah F. Sager Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) team came together to ensure the safe and successful delivery. They resuscitated the triplets and then successfully cared for the siblings until they were ready to return home with their parents. In 2021, more than $400,000 from Inspira Foundation’s Deborah F. Sager Memorial Fund was allocated for new beds, BiliCocoons, and other equipment to improve comfort, safety and healing in the Deborah F. Sager Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Inspira Medical Center Vineland.

A History of Leadership & Generosity Longtime members of the Inspira Family and of Gloucester County, Dr. and Mrs. Glenn Dragon have a long history of leadership and generosity. Dr. Dragon is the Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology and has served as President of the Mullica Hill Medical Staff for several years. He was an ex officio member on the Inspira Health Foundation Board of Trustees, as well as on the Inspira Hospital Board of Trustees. Together with his wife, Gail, they even served as co-chairs of The Gala on two occasions.

The two came to the Inspira Health Foundation team this year interested in making a gift to Inspira, in honor of the many years they were privileged to be part of this organization. In 2021, they made a generous pledge to Inspira Health Cardiac Care – marking the first official gift to the upcoming “All Heart” campaign.

Offering Support Through a Family’s Grief We likely all know someone who has had a miscarriage, stillbirth, or loss of a child – many have even experienced this devastating loss firsthand. Families often grieve in silence, feeling that others don’t understand their loss.

To better support Inspira patients and families experiencing the loss or miscarriage of an infant, our Foundation team partnered with the network’s Maternity Department to establish the Perinatal Bereavement Program. This program provides patients and families with support through their grief and the opportunity to remember their babies, by providing: n

Memory boxes and keepsakes with pictures of the family with their infant

Books, such as “When Hello Means Goodbye”, “We Had an Angel Instead”, “The Invisible String”, and “My Siblings Still”

n

Resources for grandparent grief, sibling grief, friends and family, stillbirth, miscarriage, etc.

This program means a lot to the families, but unfortunately, many people don’t know about it until they are living it.

Your support will allow this vital program to continue and grow, offering families support through this critical time.
