During filming, Hedwig was frequently played by an animatronic puppet that could turn its head any direction just like a real owl. The radio-controlled bird was used for many of the scenes on Platform Nine and Three-Quarters, including the scene in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets when Harry and Ron crash into the barrier. The animatronic bird can also be seen in the back seat of the Ford Anglia that Ron flies to Hogwarts, opening its eyes in surprise when they discover how close they actually are to the speeding train!
