Rolf Reichlin celebrates 20 years with Uniworld
A LIFE DEDICATED TO THE WATER
Rolf began his maritime journey at the young age of 15, when he joined Schweizer Reederei und Neptun AG as a trainee sailor in 1975. Now, 50 years later, at the age of 65, he looks back on a career that has been deeply intertwined with the world of shipping—a true lifetime spent on and around the water.
In his early years, Rolf worked on tankers and freighters, gaining invaluable experience across the cargo sector. From 1982 to 1986, he served as a ship’s pilot in Basel, navigating vessels with skill and precision. Not long after, he and his wife took a bold step and purchased their first tanker—later a second one in 1999. Both ships remained under their ownership until 2012, when Rolf decided it was time for a new chapter.
At the start of the 2000s, Rolf transitioned into passenger shipping, working as a relief captain with various companies. His knowledge, leadership, and dedication soon led to a pivotal role with Uniworld. Starting at the end of May 2005, he took on a permanent contract with the company, first as Director and later as Vice President. His responsibilities have since included ship maintenance and repair, new ship construction, insurance, and much more.
For Rolf, shipping is more than a profession—it is a calling. His five decades including 20 with us on the water reflect a rare passion and commitment that has shaped not only his own life but also left a lasting impact on the maritime industry.

Next Month ....
We will celebrate 1st Captain Menno on his 25th year with Uniworld !

Impact Report 2024
by Julie Higgins, Director Hotel Operations/ Sustainability Officer
Dearest Colleagues across our ships and offices,
It’s a BIG moment for us in our Sustainability Initiatives. Many of you who were with us back in 2020 may remember the launch of our How We Tread Right strategy (3 pillars: Planet, People & Wildlife, with 11 measurable goals) — making us the first river cruise line to introduce such a comprehensive plan.
In 2021, we proudly published our very first Impact Report, sharing the achievements across TTC and highlighting the difference each of you here at Uniworld has made. We’ve continued to release this report every year since — once again, as the first river cruise line to do so.
We’re now thrilled to share our 4th Annual Impact Report, reflecting all the progress made across our brands through the end of 2024. Please take a moment to read through the report and feel proud of the meaningful work you’ve contributed to. You can find it here: https://impact.ttc.com/progress/
Our TreadRight team has done a beautiful job compiling this report and honoring the impact of your achievements.
Bravo to all of you for your role in this important work. We hope you’ll continue the journey with us in making travel matter.

Welcome Onboard Madame la Ministre!
Uniworld Welcomes France’s Minister Delegate for Tourism Nathalie Delattre Aboard the S.S. Bon Voyage: Pioneering the Future of River Cruising on the Garonne
Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection had the great honor of hosting Nathalie Delattre, Minister Delegate for Tourism, aboard our beautifully appointed S.S. Bon Voyage during her recent visit to Bordeaux. This official engagement, selected and organized by the French government, highlighted Uniworld’s dedication to excellence and the rising potential of river tourism in France.
From the moment the Minister stepped aboard, our crew showcased the exceptional service and meticulous attention to detail that define the Uniworld experience—an effort that left her visibly impressed. The entire team rose to the occasion, ensuring that no element went unnoticed, and guaranteeing a flawless visit.
Beyond formalities, the visit sparked a constructive and forward-looking discussion about the future of river cruising in France, with a particular focus on the Garonne River. With the French authorities expressing a strong commitment to promoting and increasing passenger-ship operations, the conversation was marked by optimism and mutual interest.
Navigating the Garonne isn’t without its challenges. Known as one of Europe’s most tax-intensive waterways, it demands both financial and innovative operational solutions. We shared the navigational and economic challenges we are confronted, along with the creative strategies our crew has developed to maintain seamless service and guest satisfaction.
Minister Delattre brought a refreshingly open and collaborative presence, engaging directly with our team and delving into the practical logistics of river operations. Her proactive engagement signals a genuine willingness from the government to establish a sustainable and supportive framework for expanding river tourism on the Garonne.
Uniworld is proud to be at the forefront of this exciting movement. With continued collaboration and shared vision, we look forward to shaping a thriving future for river cruising in France—anchored in excellence, innovation, and authentic French hospitality.

My Nephew’s Day Onboard
by Astrid Veldwijk, Fleet Hotel Manager
I took my ‘little’ nephew on a visit to a ship as part of an internship-style learning experience designed to introduce young people to various career paths. The aim was to help him explore different types of work environments and gain insight into the kinds of jobs he might find interesting in the future.
He was genuinely excited to get a behind-the-scenes look at how things operate on board and to engage directly with several crew members. He had the opportunity to observe the teamwork, discipline, and coordination required to keep everything running smoothly. What stood out most to him was how passionate the crew was about their roles, and how each person contributed something unique to the larger mission.
He made the most of the experience by asking thoughtful and curious questions, including:
• What do you enjoy most about your job?
• What’s the most challenging part of your role?
• What did you study, or how did you end up in this position?
These conversations gave him a clearer understanding of the different pathways people take to build their careers, and how education, skills, and experience all play a part. It was not only informative, but also inspiring for him to hear real-life stories and personal perspectives from professionals in the field.
He will be preparing a presentation to share with his classmates and teachers, where he’ll talk about what he saw, what he learned, and how the experience helped shape his thoughts about the future. It was a meaningful opportunity for personal growth, opening his eyes to possibilities he hadn’t considered before and giving him a new appreciation for the world of work.

ONBOARD ACTIVITIES
Sushi & Barbecue time!
It’s summertime — and even on the river, the Uniworld crew knows how to make the most of their well-deserved free time!
What better way to relax and recharge than with a sunset barbecue and a sushi-making evening on board? With the ship gently cruising along calm waters, the crew gathered to enjoy good food, laughter, and each other’s company — far from their daily duties, but right at home on the water.
From grilling on deck to rolling sushi with creativity and care, the evening was filled with fun, flavor, and a sense of togetherness. The breathtaking views and peaceful atmosphere made the perfect backdrop for unwinding, bonding, and celebrating the season.
Because even behind the scenes of luxury travel, our crew takes time to create meaningful moments and memories — just like our guests.
Here’s to the Uniworld family, to summer, and to the joy of being part of something special — both on and off duty.
