Candide Overture – Leonard Bernstein

Let’s take flight! We’ll hop into our imaginary airplanes and soar around the orchestra, visiting each section: brass, strings, woodwinds, and percussion.Along the way, you’ll hear musical “postcards” from famous pieces like Eine kleine Nachtmusik, WilliamTell Overture, and even September. Each section has its own special sound listen for how they’re different as we travel.

Your bid helps bring live orchestra experiences to thousands of children across Colorado.
Auction closes April 26th!

PROGRAM NOTES, CONTINUED
Bicycle Song – Laurie Berkner, featuring Chloe Scull (Central City Opera)
How fast can you go? In music, we call speed tempo. This song helps us explore slow, medium, and fast as we pretend to ride bicycles, scooters, and even run. Listen closely how does the music change as the tempo gets faster?
Orange Blossom Special – Ervin T. Rouse
All aboard the train! This toe-tapping fiddle tune makes the violin sound like a speeding locomotive. You’ll also hear how the same instrument can play in very different styles from classical to folk featuring music inspired by composers like Mendelssohn and Copland. What kind of journey does the violin take you on?
Funiculì, Funiculà – Luigi Denza, featuring Chloe Scull (Central City Opera)
This lively Italian song was originally written to celebrate a train that carried visitors up Mount Vesuvius. Its joyful melody makes it feel like a cheerful ride up the mountain. Can you imagine the view from the top?
