PROGRAM NOTES Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 ("Pastoral") – Excerpt Have you ever listened to nature? Ludwig van Beethoven loved taking long walks outdoors, and he wrote this music to sound like the countryside. Close your eyes and imagine birds singing, gentle breezes, and a peaceful day outside. You Are My Sunshine (Brass Quintet) This cheerful favorite gets a shiny new sound from our brass instruments! Listen to the bright trumpets, warm horn, smooth trombone, and deep tuba as they fill the room with this familiar tune. You might even want to sing along! Flight of the Bumblebee Can you hear the bee buzzing? Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov wrote this famous piece to sound just like a busy bumblebee zipping from flower to flower. Keep your eyes on our flutist, Cora - the notes fly by almost as fast as a real bee! Sweet Baby Butterfly Butterflies aren't the only ones fluttering in this piece! Soprano Chloe Scull joins the orchestra from Central City Opera to sing this charming song by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor. Listen for Chloe's soaring voice as it floats through the air just like a butterfly on a summer day. The Ants Go Marching (Tiny Tots Remix!) These aren't ordinary ants—they're marching with a little extra groove! Listen carefully and you might hear a fun surprise inspired by a famous rock band. Can you march, stomp, and count along with our musical ants and Chloe? www.insidetheorchestra.org

PROGRAM NOTES, CONTINUED Orchestra Hide-and-Seek Oh no...the trumpets have wandered off! Can you help us find them? Listen closely as different instruments play famous pieces of classical music. Keep your ears open—and when you spot the trumpets, let everyone know! Victoria Gallop Hold on tight, it's time for a musical horseback ride! This lively piece was written in 1839 by Francis Johnson, one of the earliest published black American composers and an acclaimed bandleader. Can you hear the clip-clop of horses' hooves as they race across the countryside? Maybe you'll want to gallop along, too! Train Song Special guest and Colorado Native, Neyla Pekarek, takes us on a musical train adventure! All aboard as we ride the rails together with catchy melodies, exciting rhythms, and plenty of imagination. Choo choo! We Are the Dinosaurs It's a busy day in the life of a dinosaur! This Laurie Berkner favorite follows a herd of dinosaurs as they march across the land, stop for a snack, take a well-earned nap, and finish with one mighty ROAR. De Colores This joyful folk song has been sung for generations in Mexico and many Spanish-speaking communities around the world. De colores means "of many colors," and the song celebrates the bright colors of flowers, birds, rainbows, and the beautiful world around us. Listen for the warm, colorful sounds of the orchestra—and if you know the tune, feel free to sing along! www.insidetheorchestra.org
