2700 Capitol Ave, Sac 916-443-5300
B Street Theatre’s New Comedies Festival is back! For this fourth annual festival, they asked playwrights from across the country to submit their best brand new, unproduced comedies. After more than 400 submissions and several rounds of review by dozens of script readers, we’ve chosen the top four to receive live staged readings for the first time in our Voris Mainstage Theatre! At least one of these new comedies will be chosen to receive a full B Street Theatre Mainstage production for the 2024 Season! You can see the selected piece from last year’s festival on the Mainstage this summer from July 5th to August 15th – Sarah Groustra’s steamy, heartwarming and hilarious INSERTION. In addition to INSERTION, B Street will produce two additional plays from last year’s festival including RESCUE ME by Company Members Peter Story and Tara Sissom and COSMO ST. CHARLES IS DEAD AND SOMEONE IN THIS ROOM KILLED HIM by Nicole Zimmerer.
The Old Man And The Old Moon
Thru Aug 20
Presented by Green Valley Theatre Company at Big Idea Theatre 1616 Del Paso Blvd, Sac Greenvalleytheatre.com
The Old Man and The Old Moon Book, Music, and Lyrics by PigPen Theatre Co. The Old Man has kept his post as the sole caretaker of the moon for as long as he (or his wife, the Old Woman) can remember. When she is drawn away by a mysterious melody sparking memories of their shared past, the Old Man must decide between duty (and routine) and love (and adventure). Luckily for audiences, he chooses the latter, and what follows is an imaginative sea-faring epic, encompassing apocalyptic storms, civil wars, leviathans of the deep, and cantankerous ghosts, as well as the fiercest obstacle of all: change. Storytelling is enhanced by puppetry, music (with actors playing instruments and singing), shadow, projected light, found objects, and Green Valley’s signature brand of funky, unique spectacle. This whimsical production is intended for adults but appropriate for all ages.
