Cooperation in Action During Hurricane Helene and Beyond
During Hurricane Helene, Canoochee EMC benefited from the support of numerous organizations, highlighting a core principle of electric cooperatives: Cooperation Among Cooperatives. This spirit of mutual aid is crucial to our ability to restore power quickly and efficiently.

You may have seen our social media posts during the storm, acknowledging the assistance we received from other cooperatives. Their help was essential to our restoration efforts. With more than 2,700 miles of line to manage, our dedicated crews are usually able to handle day-to-day operations. However, a major storm like Hurricane Helene demands additional resources. While contract crews are sometimes necessary, we prioritize partnering with fellow cooperatives whenever possible.

Mutual Aid Is a Two-Way Street
Just as we received assistance during Hurricane Helene, we extended our support to cooperatives in Virginia and Georgia in February. When winter storms caused widespread outages, Canoochee EMC crews traveled to those areas to help restore power.
This spirit of cooperation is what makes electric cooperatives unique. We’re all in this together, and we understand that helping each other during times of need ultimately benefits all our members.
We are grateful for the support and understanding our community has shown for our lineworkers, who often face challenging conditions while working in unfamiliar territory. It’s just one more advantage of being part of an electric cooperative.
