Introducing your new CEO This month I am pleased to introduce you to the next CEO of Orange County REMC. After several months of research and interviews, the board of directors has selected Matthew Deaton to DANNY L. fill the role of CEO, which I ARNOLD will be vacating in mid-April.

From now until April, I will still be at the REMC, introducing Deaton to people in the industry, particularly at Indiana Electric Cooperatives in Indianapolis, Hoosier Energy in Bloomington, and managers and CEOs at other electric cooperatives across the state. Part of Deaton’s orientation will also include becoming familiar with local chambers of commerce, economic development boards and political contacts who are valuable to the REMC. Deaton grew up in the Campbellsburg area and graduated from West Washington High School. He then attended the University of Evansville where he earned degrees in civil and mechanical engineering. He is also a Certified Energy Manager (CEM).

He began his professional career

at Messer Construction, then later worked for Netshape Technologies in Campbellsburg, and most recently, he worked for Crane Army Ammunition Activity.

His previous experience with shortmid- and long-term strategic planning should serve him well as he takes the reins at Orange County REMC. He has noted that he is excited about the possibility of serving on local boards or committees and giving back to the community where he grew up.

The board of directors feels confident Deaton can handle the duties of CEO supurbly, and will bring fresh perspective to the local REMC as well as the electric utility industry at large. They are pleased to know my successor’s history in the local area has influenced his dedication to the people and businesses of the Orange County REMC service territory.

I have enjoyed serving as the CEO of Orange County REMC, and will publish my final “farewell” in a later issue of the Electric Consumer.

Five students from Paoli High School recently competed in the 2014 Lock Tight Night Robotics Competition held at the Central Nine Career Center in Greenwood. The students are part of the Lost River Career Cooperative at Paoli High School. Orange County REMC provided the sponsorship for the students to participate in the robotics competition.

Paoli High School students Nick Gazarian, Matthew Slaten, Chris Lambert, Collin Blackburn and Logan McCallister competed in the Lock Tight Night Robotics Competition held in Greenwood.

This year’s competition was “Salvage Operation,” based upon the popular children’s game “Operation.”

Students built remote control robots to retrieve various types of scoring items from similarly shaped cavities throughout the playing field and deposit them into a scoring area.

New incentives available for energy efficiency For many years Orange County REMC has offered financial incentives to members who choose to use energy wisely by upgrading or installing energy-efficient heat pumps, air conditioners, geothermal units or even water heaters. This year’s incentive program has undergone some significant changes.

There are several types of incentives, from $50 for refrigerator recycling up to $1,500 for energyefficient HVAC systems, depending on the type of home and the type of equipment being installed.

Last year, we introduced a new duct sealing program with a value of $250 or $500, depending on the application. This year we have added a new incentive for homeowners who upgrade the insulation in their attic.

Each incentive has conditions that must be met, and an overview of these programs is printed at right.
