Operation Round Up® awards 16 scholarships North Arkansas Electric Cooperative’s Operation Round Up® program awarded scholarships to 16 recent high school graduates. Thirteen students will receive one-time scholarships of $1,000. Three students — Hannah Baker, Haydyn Friend and Taci Humphries — each will receive $1,000 toward their college education annually for up to four years.

High school seniors may apply for the next round of scholarships beginning Feb. 1. The application will be posted at naeci.com and available through high school counselors. Members can help fund future scholarships by enrolling their electric accounts in Operation Round Up. Participants agree to have their monthly electric bills “rounded up” to the nearest dollar. For example, a bill amount of $125.60 would become $126. To enroll your account(s), please call (870) 895-3221, email info@naeci.com or visit an NAEC office. Donations are placed in a trust and administered by a five-member volunteer board of community leaders.

Scholarship applications due April 1 The North Arkansas Electric Cooperative (NAEC) member-funded Operation Round Up® program awards thousands of dollars in scholarships to local graduating high school seniors each year. In 2024, 15 students were awarded $1,000 scholarships, and three students were awarded $4,000 scholarships to be disbursed in $1,000 installments for up to four years. NAEC is accepting applications for the 2025-2026 scholarship program. The application is available at naeci.com or through high school counselors’ offices. Applicants must mail or deliver the typed application to NAEC by April 1. They must include a transcript and two letters of recommendation — with at least one from a nonschool employee who is not a relative. To be eligible for the scholarship, high school seniors must graduate at the end of the 2025 Kira Duncan Ellison Addison Farris also must school year, and their parents or legal Jordan guardians must be NAEC members. NAEC members reelect Wiles
A 'Capitol' experience
North Arkansas Electric Cooperative (NAEC) members reelected Sonya Wiles of Melbourne to a six-year term on the NAEC Board of Directors.
NAEC attorney Roger Morgan announced election results during the 85th Annual Meeting at the Salem Civic Center on June 19. Survey & Ballot Systems received 5,404 valid ballots from members. Incumbent Wiles was nominated by the nominating committee for the Izard County position. Michelle Graetz of Horseshoe Bend was nominated by petition. Wiles received 2,942 votes; Graetz received 2,462 votes. During Annual Meeting, CEO Mel Coleman and senior staff shared updates on their respective departments. In addition, Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation President and CEO Vernon “Buddy” Hasten gave an update from the generation and transmission cooperative, which is NAEC’s wholesale power provider. Survey & Ballot Systems of Minnesota conducted the election on NAEC’s behalf. The company mailed each NAEC member a ballot, Sonya Wiles candidate biographies and 2024 Annual Report in May. Ballots received by Survey & Ballot Systems by June 17 were considered valid.
