E N E R GY E F F I CI E N C Y TIP OF THE MONTH September kicks off the fall season, when cooler mornings and milder evenings often mean you can give your heating/cooling system a break. Open windows, use ceiling fans and enjoy the fresh air whenever temperatures allow. It’s also a great time to schedule annual HVAC maintenance, as professionals are often more available before colder weather arrives. Source: Dept. of Energy
Stewed Okra, Tomatoes and Corn Ingredients: 2 slices bacon, chopped 1 medium onion, chopped 1 (10 oz) package frozen cut okra
1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes, drained 1 (20 oz) package frozen corn
Directions: Place bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir to release some of the juices, then add the onion and okra. Fry until tender and browned, stirring constantly. Be careful, as this tends to brown quickly. Pour in the tomatoes, and simmer over medium heat for 20 minutes. Mix in the corn, and simmer for another 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper and serve.

DOWNED AND DANGEROUS If you see a downed power line, stay away! Always assume a downed power line is energized and dangerous.
If you come into contact with one accidentally, shuffle away with small steps, keeping your feet together and on the ground at all times. This will minimize the potential for a strong electric shock.
Never try to move a downed power line, even if you think the line is not energized or if you’re using a non-conductive item.
If your car comes into contact with the downed line, stay inside. If the car is on fire, jump out of the vehicle with both feet together and avoid contact with the car and the ground at the same time. Shuffle away from the car.
If you see someone who is in direct or indirect contact with the downed line, do not touch the person. You could become the next victim. Call 911 instead.
