E N E R GY E F F I CI E N C Y TIP OF THE MONTH ADJUST YOUR WATER HEATER SETTINGS

As cooler weather arrives, your water heater may be working harder to keep up with longer, hotter showers. Check its temperature setting and consider lowering it to 120°F, which the U.S. Department of Energy recommends for most households. Lowering the temperature can reduce energy use while also helping prevent scalding. Always check the owner's manual before making adjustments. Source: U.S. Dept. of Energy

Ingredients:

Mary C’s Camp Stew

1 5-6 lb. Boston butt 1 5-6 lb. hen 3-4 lbs. white potatoes 2 medium onions 1 bottle (32 oz.) ketchup

2-3 16 oz. cans tomato juice 1-2 16 oz. cans whole corn 2 16 oz. cans diced tomatoes 1 stick butter Salt, pepper, hot sauce to taste

Directions:

Boil pork and hen until completely done. Let meat cool completely and cut into small pieces. Set aside. Cut potatoes into small cubes. Chop onions. Combine onions and potatoes in a large stock pot and cover with water. Boil only long enough to cook potatoes (do not boil until potatoes are mushy). Pour off excess water, leaving cooked potatoes and onions in stock pot. Add meats and all other ingredients. Heat SLOWLY to avoid scorching. Makes about two gallons, and tastes better warmed up the next day.
