Operation Round Up® awards 16 scholarships
North Arkansas Electric Cooperative’s Operation Round Up® program awarded scholarships to 16 recent high school graduates.
Thirteen students will receive one-time scholarships of $1,000. Three students — Hannah Baker, Haydyn Friend and Taci Humphries — each will receive $1,000 toward their college education annually for up to four years.
High school seniors may apply for the next round of scholarships beginning Feb. 1. The application will be posted at naeci.com and available through high school counselors.
Members can help fund future scholarships by enrolling their electric accounts in Operation Round Up. Participants agree to have their monthly electric bills “rounded up” to the nearest dollar. For example, a bill amount of $125.60 would become $126.
To enroll your account(s), please call (870) 895-3221, email info@naeci.com or visit an NAEC office.
Donations are placed in a trust and administered by a five-member independent board of community leaders. The volunteer board evaluates all requests and determines how Operation Round Up funds are distributed.
More than $270,000 in college scholarships, grants to community organizations and disaster relief has been awarded.
Nonprofits can download the application for a donation at naeci.com/operation-round-up.

LIHEAP can help with bills
The federal government’s Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides help for qualifying members with their energy costs during the summer. LIHEAP is administered by community action agencies. In NAEC’s service area, those are Northcentral Arkansas Development Council and Ozark Opportunities.
Summer assistance should be available through September or until funds are depleted, whichever comes first.
We encourage members needing assistance to reach out to the agency serving their county for more information.
Northcentral Arkansas Development Council serves residents in Fulton, Izard, Sharp and Stone counties. For more information, visit nadcinc.org or call (870) 793-5765.
Ozark Opportunities serves residents in Baxter and Marion counties. For more information, visit ozarkopp.org or call (870)741-2089.
The amount of help available varies based on a person’s income, number of people in the home and other factors.
If you are struggling to pay your electric bill by the due date, please reach out to NAEC at (870) 895-3221.

HAPPY LABOR DAY!
— NAEC offices will be closed Sept. 1. Personnel will be on hand in the event of an outage. Report using the app or calling (870) 895-3221.
BEAT THE SUMMER PEAK
When NAEC members work together to lower electricity use during peak hours (often 3-7 p.m. on the hottest days), we can lock in lower wholesale electricity rates so everyone saves. Here are a few ways you can help:
• Raise the thermostat a few degrees.
• Use ceiling fans (in occupied rooms) to feel cooler.
• Avoid using major appliances.
• Close drapes and blinds to block heat from the sun.
• Turn off and unplug non-essential electronics and lights.
ENERGY EFFICIENCY TIP OF THE MONTH

Replace your cooling system’s filter regularly to maintain strong airflow and boost energy efficiency. A clean filter means your system doesn’t have to work as hard, saving energy and lowering your utility bills. Check the filter every month and replace it as needed.
