Energy Tip

Carefully positioned trees can save up to 25 percent of a typical household’s energy used for heating and cooling. The right type of tree can provide protection from the summer sun but permit winter sunlight to reach and warm your house. Research shows that summer daytime air temperatures can be 3 to 6 degrees cooler in tree-shaded areas than in treeless areas. Remember to call 811 to ensure the area where you plan to dig is safe. Only plant in areas clear of above and underground power lines and other utilities. Source: U.S. Department of Energy
