A RHAPSODY OF BLUES – THE CLOCHE

INTRO: This project is for a hand sewn cloche hat made up of 4 sections crown and a brim section.

PATTERNS You will note that we now have to create one new pattern but retain the original from the other 2 projects.

THIS WILL NOW BE THE CLOCHE BRIM – cut on the fold CUT 2 X

INTERFACING/ADHESIVE WEBBING 1-

Find adhesive webbing from Millinery suppliers in your country or

2-

Buy Vilene interfacing for collars & cuffs in black or white or

3-

Use buckram in a medium weight (find at milliner’s suppliers)

You will need to cut 2 on the fold for the brim section of the cloche

THE CROWN/HEAD FITTING PATTERN (BEANIE) CUT 4

THIS PATTERN FITS AN A4 SHEET PERFECTLY – SO PRINT IT OUT TO FIT THE PAGE AS IN PICTURE – CUT 4

CONSTRUCTION Cut out 4 of the beanie templates on your chosen fabric.

Once done snip off the top of peak - as in picture. Stitch all 4 sections together and then flat sew the seams on either side as per picture. DO NOT CUT OFF EXCESS Flat sewing the seams of beanie.

Once all 4 sections have been stitched together by machine draw a slight arch on the beanie using chalk ensuring that the arch meets seam to seam as per the picture

Sew across that white line from seam to seam and then cut off the excess from the top without cutting through the arch stitches. This is done to keep the beanie flat against the head.

Take the item and place it on the dummy head/foam model and then steam iron flat following the shape of the head perfectly and flattening the seams.

(PLEASE NOTE: My dummy head is made of foam but has been prepared with 3 layers of muslin which have been permanently sewn around the whole head to enable me to mould, iron, and shape hats directly on it – hence the reason why I also constantly wrap my poupee/dummy head with cling film..this helps certain chemicals used in hat making not stick to my poupee) PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE PREPPED THE HEAD BEFORE TRYING ANY KIND OF HEAT TREATMENT ON IT AS IT WILL MELT!!!

THE BRIM

Cut the brim on the fold of the fabric - and sew the ends together – flat stitch

Fit the item around the head to see how it fits – cut away any excess from either brim or crown depending on your designs then fit all items together – add the crown over the brim and pin into place ensuring that the seams are aligned where needed. Run some stay stitches by hand to keep in place and then sew by machine once happy with the results.

FITTING PETERSHAM/GROSGRAIN Once you have sewn the crown to the brim, take a 1inch/2.5cm wide petersham/grosgrain ribbon and sew to the inside of the hat on the internal edge of the brim – remember to fold the ribbon 1cm in at the start and then fold again 1cm in at the end of sewing.

THE LINING Sew the lining in exactly the same manner as you have done with the cloche brim at the beginning of the instructions. Refer to pictures tuck the lining in between the ribbon (grosgrain) and stitching of crown and brim. Use the matching threads and handsew the lining with neat discreet stitches.

FINAL RESULTS & DECORATION newsletter12 Here I have decided to finish the classic cloche with blue grosgrain ribbon and a bow that is made with PVC and the grosgrain to finish.

The fleece cloche is made in exactly the same way but here I have sewn some lines into the whole of the brim about 1cm apart used yellow lining but added an additional 2cm on either side of the brim pattern just to show you that it is an editable pattern and you can make few adjustments to create your own‌!

Now you cannot say that you cannot find the pattern for a cloche on the internet!!!

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO GET INTO FASHION? (APART FROM BEING BORN FEMALE) Fashion was something I got into bit by bit over the years. I think I truly fell in love with fashion during my modeling days.

When you are surrounded by so many beautiful clothing and designs, it’s easy to develop such a fascination with clothes and fashion in general.

WHO ARE YOUR AGENTS? HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN MODELLING – TRYING TO BREAK INTO THE SCENE? I modelled for 2 years. Right now, I’m on a break from modelling. I’m now a wardrobe stylist and that’s been going great for me. I fell into styling through a shoot I did over a year ago for an online shop I started. The stylist I booked let me down last minute, so I had to step in and improvise. I enjoyed it so much I started doing more of it. Now I’m a professional stylist.

WHAT WAS THE MOST ENJOYABLE FASHION EVENT YOU EVER MODELLED FOR? I guess it would have to be when I modelled at one of the branches of House of Fraser for the relaunch of the BIBA label. I had to do so many shows but I absolutely LOVED it.

FOR ONE SO YOUNG ITS ADMIRABLE TO SEE YOU EVOLVE TO ADVANCE YOUR CAREER – WE SEE YOU WRITE A BLOG BUT DO YOU COVER EVENTS/ AND OR JUST FASHION? Thank you, that means a lot. I mainly cover fashion and style. But events are something I can branch into in the nearby future. I have had a few requests, so you never know. There are no limits to what you can achieve and explore. Life is too short to just stay in one box.

WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU DO NOT PROMOTE YOUR TALENT FOR WRITING & SELF STYLING? On average I do at least 1 or 2 styling jobs a week. I can only style part time for now as I’m lucky enough to get approached for different projects. So I am able to pick and choose which ones suit my schedule more. I also work in an office 3 days a week. It’s a recruitment agency and has absolutely NOTHING to do with fashion lol.

WHO IS YOUR GREATEST FASHION INSPIRATION AND WHY? I don’t really have a particular fashion icon or inspiration. I guess I am more inspired by the everyday people. The people of London are so adventurous when it comes to fashion. It’s so inspiring to see normal people like you and me push the envelope and explore their personal style.

WHAT WOULD BE YOUR IDEAL JOB? AS WE NOTE THAT YOU MODEL/STYLE & WRITE (BLOG)?

My goal is to basically have my own studio in the near future. It would be a combination of an office and studio for my styling. I’m aiming to become a full time stylist. That is what I love to do and this is where my passion lies.

WHAT IS THE MOTIVATION FOR DOING WHAT YOU DO? I have always been a driven individual. If I spend a whole day doing absolutely nothing, I would go crazy. So I guess I motivate myself in a way. I’m thankful to God for preserving me and I’m grateful to my family. They have so much faith in me and I love that they stand by me whatever I do.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE ANYONE WHO WANTS TO BE LIKE YOU? I would say be ready to work HARD. Yes fashion is fun. But it also involves a lot of work and travelling around. As long as you prepare yourself for that and you have a passion for what you are doing, the sky is the limit.

QUE VOUS A INCITÉ À DÉCIDER D'ENTRER DANS LA MODE? (INDÉPENDAMMENT D'ÊTRE NÉE FEMME) la mode était quelque chose que je suis entrée petit a petit au cours de certaines années. Je pense que je suis vraiment tombé amoureuse de la mode pendant que j’etais mannequin. Quand vous êtes entourée ainsi par beaucoup de bel habilles et conceptions, il est facile de développer une telle fascination avec des vêtements .

COMBIEN DE TEMPS AVIEZ-VOUS MODELÉ - ESSAYANT DE RENTRER DANS LA SCÈNE ? QUI SONT VOS AGENTS ?

J'ai fais ca pour 2 années. En ce moment, je suis sur une pause de ce monde. Je suis maintenant styliste de garde-robe et cela est devenu important pour moi. J’y suis tombée par une pousse que j'ai fais il y a une année pour un magasine en ligne. Le styliste que j'avais réservé m'ai laissé tomber a la dernière minute, ainsi j'ai dû intervenir et improviser. J’ai tellement aimee que j'ai commencé à faire sa regulierement. Maintenant je suis styliste professionnel.

QUEL ÉVÉNEMENT DE MODELLING A ETE PLUS AGRÉABLE? Je pense qu c’etait l’experience ou

J’ai modelé à une des branches de HOUSE OF FRASER pour la relance de l'étiquette de BIBA. J'ai dû faire beaucoup d'expositions! Absolument chouette!.

POUR UNE SI JEUNE C’EST EXCELLENT DE VOUS VOIR ÉVOLUER POUR AVANCER VOTRE CARRIÈRE - NOUS VOUS VOYONS ÉCRIRE UN BLOG- MAIS COUVREZ-VOUS DES ÉVÉNEMENTS ET OU SIMPLEMENT MODE? Merci. Je couvre principalement la mode et le modèle. Mais les événements sont quelque chose que je peux m'embrancher dans dans un avenir proche. J'ai eu quelques demandes, ainsi vous ne savez jamais.

Il n'y a aucune limite à ce que vous pouvez réaliser et explorer. La vie est trop courte pour rester juste dans une boite.

QUE FAITES-VOUS QUAND VOUS NE FAVORISEZ PAS VOTRE TALENT D'ÉCRITURE? A la base je fais au moins 1 ou 2 travaux par semaine. Je peux seulement faire à mi-temps pour maintenant car je suis assez chanceuse pour obtenir des approches pour différents projets. Ainsi je peux sélectionner et choisir ceux qui conviennent à mon programme. Je travaille également

dans un bureau 3 jours par semaine.

C'est une agence de recrutement et n'a absolument RIEN À faire avec la mode.

QUI EST VOTRE INSPIRATION ET POURQUOI ?

Je n'ai pas vraiment une icôn ou une inspiration particulière de mode. Je suis inspiré par les personnes journalières.

Les habitants de Londres sont si aventureux quand ils viennet pour façonner. Il est aussi inspirant pour voir les personnes normales comme toi et moi poussée l'enveloppe et pour explorer leur modèle personnel.

QUEL SERAIT VOTRE TRAVAIL IDÉAL ? COMME NOUS NOTONS QUE VOUS ETES MODEL/STYLISTE ET ÉCRIVONS (BLOG) ?

Mon but est d'avoir fondamentalement - mon propre studio dans un avenir proche ce serait une combinaison d'un bureau et d'un studio. Je vise à devenir un styliste à temps plein. C’est ce que j'aime faire et c'est où ma passion se trouve.

QUELLE EST LA MOTIVATION POUR LE FAIRE? J'ai toujours été individualiste. Si je dépense une journée entière ne faisant absolument rien, je deviendrais folle.

Ainsi je me motive d'une certaine manière. Je suis

reconnaissante à Dieu pour ma préservation et je suis reconnaissante à ma famille. Ils ont tellement la foi en moi.

QUELS CONSEILS DONNERIEZVOUS A CEUX QUI VEULENT VOUS SUIVRE? Je dirais sois prêt à travailler DUR. Oui la mode est amusemente ! Mais elle implique également beaucoup de travail et de déplacement. Tant que vous vous préparez pour ca et vous avez une passion pour ce que vous faites, le ciel est la limite.

¿QUÉ HIZO QUE USTED DECIDE A CONSEGUIR EN LA MANERA? (APARTE DE SER HEMBRA LLEVADA) la manera era algo que conseguí en pedacito por el pedacito sobre los años.

Pienso que caí verdad en amor con la manera durante mis días que modelaban.

Cuando le rodean por así que mucho ropa hermosa y los diseños, es fácil desarrollar tal fascinación con ropas y formarla en general. ¿CUANTO TIEMPO USTED HA ESTADO MODELANDO INTENTANDO ROMPERSE EN LA ESCENA? ¿EL WHO ES SUS AGENTES? Modelé por 2 años. Ahora, estoy en una rotura de modelar. Ahora soy estilista del guardarropa y se va grande eso para mí.

Caí en labrar a través de un lanzamiento que hice sobre hace un año para una tienda en línea comencé. El estilista que reservé me dejé abajo de de última hora, así que tuve que caminar adentro e improvisar. Gocé de él tanto que comencé a hacer más de él. Ahora soy estilista profesional. ¿PARA QUÉ EL ACONTECIMIENTO MÁS AGRADABLE DE LA MANERA USTED FUE MODELADO SIEMPRE? Pero los acontecimientos son algo que puedo ramificar en en el futuro próximo. He tenido algunas peticiones, así que usted nunca sabe.

No hay límites a lo que usted puede alcanzar y explorar. La vida es demasiado corta apenas permanecer en una.

¿QUÉ USTED HACE CUANDO USTED NO PROMUEVE SU TALENTO PARA LABRAR DE LA ESCRITURA Y DEL UNO MISMO? En promedio hago por lo menos 1 o 2 trabajos labradores a la semana.

Puedo labrar solamente medio tiempo para ahora pues soy bastante afortunado conseguir acercado para diversos proyectos. Puedo tan escoger y elegir que satisfacen mi horario más. También

trabajo en una oficina 3 días a la semana. Es una agencia del reclutamiento y no tiene absolutamente NADA hacer con lol de la manera. ¿WHO ES SU MANERA MÁS GRANDE INSPIRACIÓN Y PORQUÉ?

Realmente no tengo un icono o una inspiración particular de la manera. Conjeturo que a la gente diaria me inspiro más. La gente de Londres es tan adventurera cuando viene formar. Es así que inspirando para ver a gente normal como usted y mí empuje el sobre y para explorar su estilo personal. ¿CUÁL SERÍA SU TRABAJO IDEAL? ¿COMO OBSERVAMOS QUE USTED MODEL/STYLE Y ESCRIBIMOS (BLOG)?

Mi meta es básicamente tener mi propio estudio en un futuro próximo. Sería una combinación de una oficina y de un estudio para mi labrar. Estoy apuntando hacer estilista a tiempo completo. Eso es lo que amo hacer y aquí es donde miente mi pasión. ¿CUÁL ES LA MOTIVACIÓN PARA

HACER LO QUE USTED LO HACE? He sido siempre un individuo conducido. Si paso una jornada completa que no hace absolutamente nada, iría loco.

Conjeturo tan que me motivo de una manera. Soy agradecido al dios para preservarme y soy agradecido a mi familia. Tienen tanto fe en mí y amo que me hacen una pausa lo que lo hago. ¿QUÉ CONSEJO USTED DARÍA QUE A CUALQUIER PERSONA WHO DESEA SER TENER GUSTO DE USTED? Diría sea listo trabajar DIFÍCILMENTE. La manera es sí diversión. Pero también implica muchos de trabajo y de viajar alrededor. APPARENTLY YOU GOT YOUR STAGE NAME FROM GAMBIA…DO YOU ORIGINATE FROM THERE? & WHY DARK ANGEL? I am a UK artist, I was born in England.

I am of West Indian parentage, but clearly I am of African descent and my spirit lies in Gambia.

Why Dark Angel, because everything Dark is bad! E.G Dark Cloud, dark skies, Black Rain, Black, Market, Blackmail, Blacklisted and so on and so on, I'm sure you catch my meaning! I disbelieve this ideology as before there was light there was darkness and this was good.

HOW OLD WERE YOU WHEN YOU STARTED SINGING? I started singing at the age of 9 years old; I was the lead singer in the school choir. From as far back as I can remember my family members are all musical, my mother was a singer and always playing and singing Reggae music in the house. My Uncle also had a successful sound system from the West London area and that was my real introduction to the Reggae/Dancehall scene.

WE THINK OF YOUR MUSIC AS AFRO-SOUL AND NOT AFRICAN HI-LIFE – HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE IT TO THE PUBLIC? I totally agree, African Soul is spiritual music and that is a perfect description of my music. Music with a message.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN SINGING AND DO YOU HAVE A PRODUCER/MANAGEMENT? I have been singing professionally for the last 7 years, working with various producers throughout the World.

Primarily I engineer and produce the vast majority of my music. At present I have no management but I am waiting for the right person to be sent to me to rob me ;-) When the right person comes along I will know.

I have visited / holidayed in the Motherland (Gambia) and will continue to come back again and again.

DESCRIBE YOUR JOURNEY TO SUCCESS – THE BEST & WORST? I’m still striving for success. There have been many obstacles in my way, elements in life trying to lead me astray, but this is always the case when you’re on Gods highway. So all I pray for is good health and more strength, common sense over intelligence. Nothing before its time but in-between that time I exercise patience.

WHAT WORDS OF WISDOM WOULD YOU IMPART ON ANYONE WANTING TO START IN THE SAME CARREER? Don’t do it! Unless your heart and soul is in it and you can take criticism, knock backs and time wasters. The game is not easy but then nothing is. But if you have a

dream you have to pursue it but always remember it’s not going to happen overnight, its a lot of hard work but when you start to eat the fruits of your labour it’s all worth it, especially when your belly is full.

¿HOW LARGOS LE TIENEN QUE CANTA Y USTED TIENE PRODUCER/MANAGEMENT? He estado cantando profesionalmente por los 7 años pasados, trabajando con los varios productores a través del mundo.
