B Corp Certification covers all aspects of sustainability, including the social, economic and environmental spheres. To become B Corp certified, companies undergo an end-to-end assessment to determine their overall impact on the climate and the natural, economic and social environment. The organisation considers the business's materials sourcing, supply chain, trade practices and labour force to make a decision Internal and external evaluations and regular compliance audits inspect these practices It's useful to note that membership fees differ based on annual income

ISO 14001 is an internationally agreed standard that sets out the requirements for an environmental management system It helps organisations improve their environmental performance through more efficient use of resources and reduction of waste It requires that an organisation considers all environmental issues relevant to its operations, such as air pollution, water and sewage issues, waste management, soil contamination, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and resource use and efficiency

ECOsmart is a certification system for hotels, meeting venues, short stay apartments and pubs with meeting rooms. The certification is there to support organisations with displaying their commitment to environmental

EcoVadis is a globally recognised assessment platform that rates businesses' sustainability based on four key categories: environmental impact, labour, and human rights standards, ethics, and procurement practices. This rating gives companies a holistic view of their sustainability performance, enabling them to assess and share their current performance and find out what they have to do to improve.

Green Globe certification is a globally recognised standard for sustainable operations and management in the travel and tourism industry. It involves an assessment of sustainability performance based on internationally accepted criteria and independent third-party verification

EarthCheck involves an independent auditor coming to visit a business, conduct an audit and engage the team They will provide an audit report that shows the organisation’s performance against the EarthCheck Certified Standard If they meet the requirements, they will be awarded certification and use of the EarthCheck Certified logo to promote this achievement The certification level is upgraded the longer it’s maintained The certification is awarded from Silver (1-4 years), Gold (5-9 years), Platinum (10-14 years) and Master (15+ years)

Travelife Certification requirements cover the three main areas where the accommodation sector has the most impact The environment, people and communities Their standard contains 143 requirements covering environmental management, social policy, and community engagement. Travelife-certified businesses have to meet rigorous criteria and demonstrate continuous improvement in their sustainability practices in order to achieve the certification.

Green Tourism certification is awarded in Bronze 40%+, Silver 65%+, and Gold 80%+ levels based on their 15 sustainability goals within the hospitality and tourism sector The programme assesses environmental impact, social responsibility, efforts to improve biodiversity, economic sustainability, and eliminating singleuse items, while encouraging continuous improvement in sustainable practices There is a third-party verification process and evidence required to show that a venue is upholding to globally recognised sustainability standards.

Ecotourism is a non-profit organisation dedicated to highlighting ecological destinations worldwide and supporting people and organisations that practice sustainability and responsibility with respect for our planet. They offer 16 different award categories, with winners primarily chosen through public voting. Each nominee receives an online profile featuring introductory information, including images, text, logos, videos, previously granted certifications and awards

LEED is a globally recognised certification for sustainable building and construction. It evaluates the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of resource-efficient buildings. LEED certification promotes sustainable building practices and energy efficiency

Green Leaders (TripAdvisor) this recognises hotels and B&Bs that engage in sustainable practices It awards Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum levels based on the extent of the property's sustainable efforts, like energy efficiency, water conservation, and waste reduction

Audubon International (ACSP) is an education and certification programme designed to help organisations and businesses protect our environment, become sustainability leaders in their community, and provide positive bottom line impacts on their operations The ‘plan-do-check-act’ approach of the ACSP includes certification as an incentive and reward for positive environmental actions and results The ACSP assists organisations and businesses in taking stock of environmental resources and any potential liabilities, and then develops a plan that fits its unique setting
