WELCOME TO TBB

CLEAN TECHNOLOGIES ARE BECOMING THE NEW COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE Since 2010, InnoEnergy has helped Europe lay the groundwork for a clean energy economy, turning technologies into commercial companies and building resilient value chains. Now, the opportunity is to take that innovation to the next level, into transformative industrial impact and competitiveness. Electrification underpins the clean energy economy, as growing electricity availability reshapes supply and demand across industries. Global electricity demand grew by around 3% in 2025, adding approximately 800 TWh of new demand, according to the IEA.i Supply is keeping up: in 2025, global electricity generation increased by more than 850 TWh.ii We are moving to a fundamentally different energy system. Electricity is becoming more important, more abundant, and increasingly decentralised, while the technologies that generate, store, move, and consume it are becoming industrial markets in their own right.

Energy generation Clean energy generation is expanding, and new solutions are proving themselves. CorPower Ocean has achieved the world’s first DNV Prototype Certificate for a wave energy converter, independently verifying the technology’s structural strength, reliability and safety and moving the company closer to commercial deployment at scale.

6

HoloSolis has secured more than €220 million in public and private financing to develop one of Europe’s largest photovoltaic manufacturing facilities, with planned production of 5 GW per year by 2030.

Energy storage As renewable generation grows, the ability to store and manage electricity becomes increasingly important, and the global battery storage market is already scaling rapidly. Altris’ partnership with chemical company Draslovka will scale sodium-ion cathode production to 350 tonnes/year (around 175 MWh of cell capacity), supporting Europe’s domestic battery supply chain. Verkor’s Dunkirk gigafactory, part of France’s strategic projects, will produce 16 GWh of batteries annually. At the factory’s inauguration, France’s President Emmanuel Macron said it showed that “reindustrialization, innovation, and decarbonization can move forward together.”iii

Grid and infrastructure The energy system needs new technologies to manage new demand patterns created by renewable generation and electrification. Together, these technologies are making the

grid smarter and better able to integrate distributed generation, flexible demand, and complex electricity flows. Skeleton Technologies’ high-power storage systems are being deployed for grid applications where fast response and stability are becoming increasingly important as renewable penetration rises. TokWise’ AI-supported trading and portfolio optimisation for renewable energy resources manages 2 GW and is already used in 9 countries, and is growing at over 42%.

Energy consumption Electrification requires technologies that can work at industrial scale, and smarter solutions are advancing. Kore Metals has secured up to €14.5 million in European programme support to advance industrial-scale silicon production while expanding into other strategic metals, strengthening Europe’s domestic supply of critical raw materials for high-tech industries. NitroCapt has secured €2.45 million from the EU’s EIC Accelerator to scale its SUNIFIX technology, targeting a first 3 MW commercial plant and a modular model for local, fossil-free nitrogen fertiliser production across Europe.

almost 50% of electricity, while the ETS has helped halve emissions from covered sectors since 2005.iv,v Yet electricity still accounts for only 23% of final energy consumption, leaving significant room for further electrification.vi Combined with Europe’s industrial and technological capabilities, this gives Europe a strong foundation for a more electrified, resilient, and competitive economy. Individual companies alone will not achieve this transformation. It requires connections across the value chain: investors willing to finance the next stage, industrial companies ready to adopt new technologies, policymakers creating the conditions for investment, researchers turning breakthroughs into applications, and talent capable of building the industries that follow. That is what The Business Booster brings together. Now, the advantage is ours to create.

Elena Bou

EUROPEAN BATTERY ALLIANCE (EBA)

DRIVING GROWTH IN ONE OF EUROPE’S MOST STRATEGIC NEW SECTORS EBA, launched by the European Commission in 2017, has become a cornerstone of Europe’s clean industrial strategy. With a projected market value of €500 billion by 2030 and the potential to create up to 1.5 million jobs, the battery sector represents not only a critical enabler of the energy transition but also a strategic industrial opportunity.

18

Managed by InnoEnergy, the industrial development programme of the EBA has grown into a powerful ecosystem of over 800 stakeholders spanning the entire battery value chain—from mining to recycling. This project-driven network has laid the foundations for a competitive, sustainable battery industry in Europe. Yet, the playing field has shifted. After years of steady progress, Europe’s battery industry now faces increasing pressure from heavily subsidised industrial ecosystems in other regions. In particular, China’s battery dominance results from a decade-long, state-backed strategy— combining control over critical minerals, global expansion, and massive manufacturing capacity, challenging Europe’s ability to scale. However, Europe has its own strengths, including regulatory stability, long-term strategic planning, and a strong industrial foundation. European-made batteries also lead on sustainability, circularity, and traceability—attributes increasingly demanded by global markets and aligned with Europe’s long-term vision. By upholding these principles and fostering industry consolidation, the EBA aims to ensure that Europe remains competitive in the global market while effectively addressing internal and external challenges.

ENGIE AND AERONES Scaling Robotics for Safer and More Efficient Wind Turbine Maintenance As safety, performance, and asset reliability become increasingly critical in the renewable energy sector, ENGIE and Aerones are demonstrating how robotics can transform wind turbine inspection and maintenance. Aerones and ENGIE have been working closely together across Europe and North America, carrying out hundreds of robotic blade and lightning protection system inspections, as well as several leading-edge repair campaigns. Aerones, a Latvian startup backed by InnoEnergy, chose to partner with ENGIE because of its strong commitment to decarbonization, digital transformation, and operational excellence. For ENGIE, the partnership offers access to cutting-edge technologies that improve safety, reduce human exposure to risks, and optimize maintenance operations across its wind fleet. One of the key areas of collaboration has focused on addressing leading-edge erosion, a common issue affecting wind turbine blades. Caused by the repeated impact of rain and airborne particles, erosion gradually degrades blade surfaces, reduces aerodynamic performance, and can ultimately damage blade structures. Traditionally, repairs rely on rope-access technicians, suspended platforms, or cherry pickers—methods that are often time-consuming, weather-dependent, and costly. To explore a more efficient alternative, ENGIE has conducted field trials with Aerones at the Bétheniville (France) and Seymour Hills (USA)

34

wind farms. Aerones’ robotic repair system uses a winch-assisted robot equipped with specialized modules that perform grinding, cleaning, surface preparation, filler application, sanding, and protective coating installation directly on the blade. The results have been highly encouraging. At the Bétheniville wind farm, a 55-meter blade on a 2 MW turbine was repaired in approximately 30 to 35 hours, (versus 54-93 hours with conventional methods) while maintaining high-quality standards and detailed digital records of every intervention. The partnership builds on a relationship that began in 2017, when ENGIE first started evaluating Aerones’ technologies. Since then, the startup has expanded its portfolio to include blade and tower cleaning, advanced inspections, lightning protection system assessments, and specialized repairs. The collaboration continues to grow. New inspection and repair campaigns are planned across ENGIE’s wind portfolio in 2026, further strengthening the role of robotics in predictive maintenance strategies. The partnership was also showcased at Viva Technology 2026, where Aerones joined ENGIE on its booth. For both ENGIE and Aerones, this partnership demonstrates how advanced robotics can deliver tangible benefits: safer operations, improved asset performance, lower maintenance cost, and more sustainable wind energy production.

THE LIGHTEST AND MOST CONTROLLABLE WIND TURBINE BLADE

Pilot

The need

Larger turbines with longer blades are a popular means to reduce levelised cost of electricity (LCOE) values. However, composite blades suffer from significantly increased weight and cost, increasing fatigue on other turbine components and raising the cost of installation.

The solution

The ACT Blade is a tensioned textile-covered wind turbine blade with a shape that can be actively changed to control loads. It is 24% lighter than conventional blades, enabling longer blades and directly contributing to the production of 9% more energy with a 7% reduction in the cost of energy. As they are component based, ACT Blades could result in additional manufacturing savings with 63% tooling costs and 40% factory footprint reductions.

Value proposition

Lighter, cheaper to produce and easier to transport, the ACT Blade is a leap forward in blade technology with real potential to increase the use of wind energy and displace the carbon emission of conventional power generation. Component based, they offer an opportunity to expand into remote zones contributing to local jobs and skills. ACT Blades modular manufacturing techniques are designed for a sustainable end-of-life approach.

MORE POWER WHEN IT MATTERS Starting sales

The need

PV systems overproduce power at noon in the warmer months, and underperform at sunset, sunrise and during winter. There is a need to flatten the solar energy production curve and align electricity demand with generation. This would minimise grid stress and reduce reliance on energy storage systems.

The solution

VECTHOR is an innovative photovoltaic system that utilises vertical bifacial solar panels, along with patented engineered reflectors. This enables it to increase power output irrelative of radiance conditions. The technology maximises the overall annual energy yield of the plant (kWh/kW) and reduces the cost of electricity (LCOE). It additionally optimises energy production when the price of electricity tends to be higher: at sunrise, sunset, in cloudy weather and in winter.

THE FIRST LIQUID INORGANIC HYDROGEN CARRIER THAT MAKES HYDROGEN EASY TO DELIVER

hsl.tech bmoreno@hysilabs.com Pilot

The need

Hydrogen is a clean alternative to fossil fuels. However, it is difficult to transport and store. It requires either very high pressure, or very low temperatures, and is also limited by strict regulations. A new way of transporting and storing the promising energy carrier needs to be deployed.

The solution

Hydrosyl is the first liquid inorganic hydrogen carrier that can transport and store the molecule at ambient temperature and pressure, via the existing infrastructures and for long periods of time. In addition, there’s energy input needed at the moment of unloading the hydrogen from the carrier, so the energy can be transported from wherever it’s available. This carrier is environmentally-friendly, as Hydrosil is silicon-based, amounting to the first completely zero-carbon value chain.

HIGHLY EFFICIENT AND COST EFFECTIVE ELECTROLYSERS

Pilot

The need

The EU targets an ambitious production rate of 100 GW of green hydrogen by 2030, with 40% produced by Europeanmade electrolysers.

The solution

High-temperature electrolysis (SOEL) is a technology based on 20 years research and development into solid oxide cells. It offers both high efficiency values (95%): 28-40 kWh/kgH2 and a large amount of H2 generated

per kWh. The incorporation of SOEL technology in the industry enables waste heat to be used to generate H2 with an efficiency level of near 95%, thereby diminishing the cost of H2 (€/kg H2) through decreased electricity consumption (OPEX) and plant expenses (CAPEX).

Value proposition

• CAPEX reduction for clients due to reduction of stack manufacturing costs through mass production technologies.

MAKING IT POSSIBLE TO REACH BELOW NET-ZERO

Starting sales

The need

When addressing the need for industrial-sized cogeneration or combined heat and power (CHP) from solid biomass, today’s paradigm is either to build largescale power plants (larger than 10 MWe) using steam turbine CHP technology, or to burn the feedstock in a boiler, which only produces heat.

The solution

Meva Energy’s solution is to enable power and heat production in the range below the commercial feasibility of steam turbine technology. The plant is based on biomass gasification and, in particular, on the utilisation of fine fraction feedstock. The technology is

suitable for industrial application, and can utilise feedstock residue from wood-based manufacturing or agriculture to create a local, circular energy system with minimised transportation and distribution losses.

Value proposition

• Acceptance of fine fraction, low-cost feedstock. • Highly controllable power source able to balance power grids due to the intermittence of solar and heat. • Low cost, high-efficiency production of renewable, decentralised power and heat. • Production of even gas quality with high energetic content, suitable for a high efficiency lean-burn gas engine.

MAKING BIOGENIC CO2 AVAILABLE AT SCALE

Early stage

The need

EU eSAF mandates will require 1.2% sustainable aviation fuel from 2030, increasing to 35% by 2050. Meeting this demand requires a large, reliable supply of biogenic CO₂ – the key carbon feedstock for e-fuels. Today, there is no functioning supply chain at scale. European pulp and paper mills emit ~100 Mt of biogenic CO₂ annually, yet virtually none is captured. Most mills lack the capital, technical capability, and market access to develop carbon capture infrastructure independently, while eSAF producers face a critical feedstock bottleneck that limits project bankability.

The solution

Midstrom is Europe’s first dedicated biogenic CO₂ midstream company. We design, build, own, and operate carbon capture and liquefaction systems at pulp and paper mills, and manage downstream logistics via rail to e-fuel producers and permanent storage sites. Our build–own–operate model removes complexity for industrial emitters while enabling long-term, contracted CO₂ supply for offtakers. All deployed technologies are commercially proven (TRL 9), ensuring industrial reliability from day one.

Value proposition

For pulp and paper mills: New revenue from an existing biogenic CO₂ stream, with no upfront investment, technical burden, or operational risk.

ADVANCED EPITAXIAL SILICON WAFERS FOR SPACE AND TERRESTRIAL SOLAR APPLICATIONS

Pilot

The need

Silicon wafers are the most expensive and energy intensive single component of a solar module. Current wafer manufacturing processes have a very limited cost reduction potential. Disruptive technologies are needed to bring costs and energy consumption down.

The solution

Conventional wafer production uses energy intensive processes such as polysilicon production

from chlorosilane, ingot pulling and wire sawing. NexWafe bypasses these process steps by cloning silicon wafers; growing wafers directly from chlorosilane by epitaxy. In-line equipment has been developed to achieve high throughput in production. This disruptive approach to wafer manufacturing reduces energy consumption and GHG emissions in wafer production by 60%, and cuts production costs by half.

There is therefore an urgent need for bankable, largescale eSAF projects that can integrate renewable electricity and sustainable carbon sources into commercially viable fuel production.

The solution

VolagHy develops industrial-scale eSAF plants based on proven pathways such as methanol-to-jet, integrating renewable electricity, biogenic CO₂, and strong industrial partnerships. The ventures focus on the Nordic region because of the attractive costs of green baseload power as well as abundant supply of biogenic CO₂. Starting with a first-of-a-kind flagship project in Kuopio Finland, VolagHy establishes a blueprint designed for replication across multiple sites.

Value proposition

VolagHy offers a highly de-risked, cost-efficient eSAF development platform with strong industrial anchoring and commitments across the value chain. By securing key elements—land, CO₂ supply, power access, and stakeholder support early in the development cycle, the project enables superior bankability compared to competing initiatives, while at the same time ensuring the lowest production costs. This positions VolagHy as an attractive opportunity for investors, industrial partners, and off-takers seeking scalable, competitive, and replicable eSAF production.

THE OPERATING PLATFORM FOR RES AND BESS OPTIMIZATION

Consolidated sales

The need

By 2030, Europe adds 670+ GW of RES and BESS—all exposed to merchant volatility. Solar and wind earn only when markets reward them; batteries only when dispatched with precision. Without the right tools, owners lose this flexibility value to volatility or hand it to third-party aggregators.

The solution

TokWise is the AI platform that activates RES and BESS portfolios as tradable flexibility assets. GuardianTrade, our decision engine, ingests live market, asset, and weather data to forecast

prices, optimise dispatch, and execute on day-ahead, intraday, and balancing markets—24/7, autonomously. For batteries, it runs strategies across arbitrage, ancillary services, and spot. For RES, it converts production volatility into capture-price uplift. One platform, one contract, every asset class.

Value proposition

Unlocks the full revenue potential of RES and BESS portfolios: +€4.20 per MWh in measurable uplift, or €6.6 million per year for a 1 GW portfolio. Replaces fragmented tools, manual processes, and outsourced aggregators

UNLOCK NEW REVENUES FOR YOUR BESS AND SOLAR ASSETS

Pilot

The need

Many operational or RTB solar PV projects fail to achieve their target IRR because of low electricity prices during solar production hours, which in many cases fall to zero or even negative values. Forward projections point to a further deterioration of solar capture prices. Battery storage offers a way out of the low solar price trap. However, its classical use, simply shifting grid injection to other hours, captures only a fraction of its potential value.

The solution

The BM2Solar solution for hybridized (PV+BESS) plants goes beyond classical energy shifting. It boosts revenues by operating the battery dynamically across all available electricity markets (day-ahead, intraday auctions

and continuous, balancing services such as aFRR and mFRR, redispatching and imbalances). This contrasts with the old model of following a static, pre-determined revenue-stacking model. By forecasting prices and market opportunities in real time, BM2S automatically reallocates battery capacity to whichever market is most profitable at any given moment, capturing significantly more value than fixed, spreadsheet-based revenue-stacking approaches. BM2Solar’s AI-based trading engine built on machinelearning algorithms, combining gradient boosting (LightGBM/ XGBoost), deep learning (neural networks and RNNs) and large language models that continuously ingest historical, meteorological, and real-time market data to forecast prices and market opportunities and to optimise

revenues. It decides automatically when to charge, buy and sell, in which markets, and how to capitalise on price differences between them, continuously re-optimising capacity allocation across markets in real time.

BM2Solar also provides comprehensive, end-to-end storage deployment—encompassing financing, engineering, construction, and maintenance—all at zero cost, risk, or hassle for the solar SPV.

CHEMICAL RECYCLING OF DIFFICULTTO-RECYCLE PLASTICS, CFRP, E-SCRAP, TEXTILES INTO MONOMERS, HYDROGEN, METHANOL.

tadashi.kubo@acbiode.com

Pilot

The need

Only around 15% of plastic waste is being recycled. For complex wastes, such as e-scrap, PVC, CFRP, FRP, tires, textiles, shoes and solar panels this number is even lower.

The solution

For companies struggling to recycle their waste, Plastalyst recycles organic waste and plastic waste into chemicals such as monomers, hydrogen, carbon monoxide and methanol.

Uniquely, the process is below 200°C, produces no CO2 and only uses water as a solvent. Pilots have been completed to decompose mixed, multi-layered plastic waste mixed with biological waste, including PVC, CFRP, FRP, tires, textiles, shoes and solar panels. The first commercial plant is planned for 2027.

Value proposition

• Decomposes plastics efficiently on site, from polymer to monomer, at a lower temperature (below 200°C) and pressure than competitors. • Unlike current technologies, Plastalyst produces no dioxin, GHG emissions, or tar. • Catalysts can be sold to chemical or waste management companies or licensing provided of the technology.

EFFICIENT HIGH TEMPERATURE HEAT PUMP FOR INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS

Starting sales

The need

Heat production up to 200°C in industry is responsible for ~5% of global energy consumption - for which over 90% fossil fuels are still used today. Hightemperature heat pumps that can provide heat up to 200°C sustainably using waste heat are therefore urgently needed.

The solution

ecop’s rotation heat pump technology is based on a pure gas process that enables industrial companies to convert their heat production up to 200°C from natural gas to green electricity.

In contrast to conventional heat pumps, the heat pump technology does not use F-gases or flammable refrigerants. As ecop’s rotation heat pump can also achieve very high temperature lifts with high efficiency, it is an optimal solution for many applications in industry, district heating and geothermal energy.

The need

Grid overloads, network losses and rising renewable curtailment cost operators billions each year, yet grid data is often incomplete. EU AI Act and NIS2 rules demand explainable AI and data sovereignty, ruling out black-box cloud tools in critical infrastructure.

The solution

Gradis Graph XAI, a proprietary decision engine, combines graph grammars with machine learning. It builds on more than 15 years of research at AGH University in Kraków. Instead of treating data as tables, the engine models infrastructure as a graph of physical and spatial dependencies, so a change at one node is instantly reflected across the network. It works with only 60–70% sensor coverage, estimating missing

values from topological correlations, and every decision can be traced step by step. The engine runs fully on-premise and powers four product lines: Virtual Grid Manager (VGM) for predictive grid management, the PhoCa lighting design and control platform, a live Digital Twin of the network, and Private AI/LLM solutions, already optimised 1.5 million lighting points in more than 100 cities.

Value proposition

• Overload prediction 2-3 weeks in advance and predictive maintenance of transformers. • Up to 75% reduction in renewable energy curtailment through selective limitation. • 10-20% CAPEX savings by avoiding grid oversizing, and 10-20% reduction in network losses.

BREAKING GROUND ON INDUSTRIAL HEAT PUMPS FROM FIRST-OF-A-KIND TECHNOLOGY TO SERIES PRODUCTION ecop is moving its Rotation Heat Pump from breakthrough technology towards industrial deployment. In the latest ROTOR project at KSB’s foundry in Pegnitz, Germany, ecop’s new-generation heat pump is being integrated into an existing industrial heating system for the first time, upgrading previously unused foundry waste heat and supplying it to the site’s heating network; the project is expected to decarbonise more than 1.5 GWh of heat annually and provide a reference model for other industrial sites. The milestone comes as ecop moves towards series production. Its latest rotor design can deliver industrial heat at up to 200°C, while the company’s GRIP project is establishing what ecop describes as the world’s first dedicated serial-production facility for its Rotation Heat Pump, with capacity for 100 units a year. The project received up to €13.2 million from the EU Innovation Fund in April 2026 and is expected to avoid more than 2.5 million tonnes of CO₂e over ten years. That scale-up is backed by industry: in 2025, KSB invested several million euros for an almost 20% stake in ecop, alongside a €10.5 million financing round. As CEO Fabian Sacharowitz put it, the partnership will enable ecop to “transfer our Rotation Heat Pump to series production, expand our technology worldwide” and move into higher-performance ranges of large heat pumps.

TURNING RENEWABLE PORTFOLIOS INTO INTELLIGENT TRADING OPERATIONS 2 GW, 9 COUNTRIES, 42% GROWTH, AND EXPANDING TokWise is tackling a growing problem in Europe’s renewable energy market: as wind and solar volumes increase and electricity markets become more volatile, the value of an asset increasingly depends on how well it is forecast, traded and optimised—not simply how much power it produces. Its AI-powered platform brings forecasting, portfolio optimisation and trading together, helping energy companies reduce imbalance costs and respond faster to changing market conditions; TokWise now manages 2 GW across 9 countries, with revenue growth of 42%. The company is now applying the same portfolio logic to battery storage. Its GuardianTrade platform integrates batteries into wider renewable portfolios rather than treating them as standalone assets, with optimisation running across day-ahead, intraday and balancing markets. In 2025, TokWise also partnered with Trading Technologies to add high-speed order routing to European exchanges including EPEX and Nord Pool—a move that reflects how increasingly fast electricity markets are becoming. The shift is about keeping control as energy markets become more complex. “For any system dealing with intraday spot power, speed is everything,” says TokWise Managing Partner Krasimir Kolev, explaining the company’s partnership with Trading Technologies.

BUILDING EUROPE’S STRATEGIC METALS SUPPLY CHAIN SCALING SILICON PRODUCTION AS THE FIRST STEP TOWARDS A BROADER METALS PLATFORM Kore Metals is building a European strategic metals platform, starting with silicon. The company has secured up to €14.5 million through the European Innovation Council’s Accelerator and the Horizon Europe-funded WISER project to advance its electricity-driven, modular production technology, designed to strengthen Europe’s domestic supply of critical materials while reducing reliance on carbon-intensive processes. Silicon is the first application of the model, with material already shipped to eight customers across the semiconductor, chemicals and aluminium value chains for qualification, and more in the pipeline. Kore Metals is advancing a pilot production cell targeting around 1,000 tonnes of silicon per year, moving its technology towards industrial validation and commercial deployment. At the same time, its work through WISER is expanding the company’s capabilities to recover and produce high-purity materials from secondary resources, including end-of-life solar panels and industrial residues. The ambition extends beyond silicon to a broader portfolio of strategic metals, using the same modular approach to develop new European supply sources. “Achieving both programs is a testament to our technology, team, and the role we play in strengthening Europe’s strategic metals supply chain,” says CEO and co-founder Joost Van Oorschot.

UNLOCKING MORE CAPACITY FROM EUROPE’S EXISTING GRIDS DIGITAL TWINS HELP UTILITIES INTEGRATE MORE RENEWABLES WITHOUT WAITING FOR NEW INFRASTRUCTURE Enline uses AI and physics-based digital twins to help grid operators model and optimise infrastructure in real time. Its GridSight platform combines grid data with weather and other inputs to identify available capacity and manage increasingly complex power flows. The company now has more than 10,000 km of grid under management and 80+ enterprise clients worldwide. A recent deployment with Lithuania’s transmission operator Litgrid demonstrates the potential. Enline and Energiot are deploying Dynamic Line Rating across 38 overhead lines covering around 1,170 km, with pilots indicating an average 50% increase in available capacity above static design ratings. By recalculating line capacity every 15 minutes based on real-time conditions, the technology can unlock more capacity from infrastructure already in place. Enline is now expanding its digital-twin platform across transmission and distribution, while ABB Electrification Ventures has invested in the company to support the next stage of growth. The progress highlights a broader shift in grid investment: alongside building new infrastructure, digital intelligence can help Europe get more capacity and flexibility from the networks it already has.
