Academic and Music PREP SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED AT YEAR 3 SEPTEMBER 2020

PREP SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS Founded in 1920 and soon to be celebrating 100 years of education, Manor House School is known for achieving excellent academic results alongside an extensive co-curricular programme, in a happy and nurturing, smaller school environment.

In recognition of the Centenary Year commencing in September 2020, two new Scholarships are to be awarded at Year 3 – one recognising academic achievement and one recognising the thrill and enjoyment of Music.

Our new Scholarships honour the memory of our Founders, Elizabeth Green and Lillian Wheeler, who were two very inspirational and forward thinking women. Each award will be valued at 10% of the annual basic tuition fee and include the additional benefits of a Scholar ‘support package’. As an example, the successful Music Scholar will benefit from free music tuition on one orchestral instrument and the Academic Scholar may join our Gifted and Talented Programme to complement and enrich their learning experiences.

Every child in Year 2 at Manor House School, as well as external Year 2 candidates applying for Year 3 2020, will sit our Entrance Examinations on Friday 10 January 2020. In so doing, every child will be considered for the Academic Scholarship, which will be awarded based on the pupil (internal or external) that achieves the highest mark in the examinations.

All Music applicants will need to sit the Entrance Examinations but must attend an assessment appointment that will be held during the day on either Thursday 29 or Friday 30 November 2019. Upon application, candidates will be notified of the time and date of this appointment.

Register your interest (external applicants only) by the deadline of Friday 8 November 2019 to attend our ‘Year 2 into Year 3 Experience Day’ on Thursday 14 November 2019 (this is for all external applicants and existing Manor House pupils in Year 2).

Music Scholarship - If you are a Manor House pupil or an external applicant from another school applying for a Music Scholarship, please submit your Application Form

by Friday 15 November in order to be invited to our Scholarship Assessment Days on either Thursday 28 or Friday 29 November 2019.

Academic Scholarship - If you are an external applicant applying for the Academic Scholarship, please register by no later than Friday 13 December 2019 for the Entrance Examinations (pupils of Manor House School will be automatically entered).

Entrance Examinations Day is on Friday 10 January 2020. All pupils are required to take part in order to be considered for a scholarship award.

MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP “Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” PLATO Candidates applying for the Music Scholarship should demonstrate a love for music and potential in their chosen instrument/s. Scholars will take a leading role in Prep School Music, both in and outside school.

Girls will benefit from: n

Free music tuition on one orchestral instrument for the duration of the Prep School up to Year 6.

A regular meeting with the Director of Music to discuss new initiatives alongside a termly review of progress and personal goals.

n

Playing in ensembles.

n

Attendance on musical trips and opportunities.

n

The chance to play at whole school assemblies.

n

The opportunity to represent the school in all performing events, both internal and external, such as the Rock and Pop Concert.

n

Candidates should apply if they have passed, or are Grade 1 level on their main instrument.

n

Candidates not at this level but with skills on a second instrument are welcome to also apply. (NB instrument also includes voice).

n

It is hoped that the candidate will have a knowledge of music theory relating to their performance ability.

Candidates will be assessed by the Director of Music. This will include a short performance by the candidate in their chosen instrument/s, including voice if appropriate.

Candidates should be prepared to play or sing two (2) contrasting pieces and answer questions based on the ABRSM Grade 1 aural tests. In addition, testimonials in support of the application from relevant, external third parties will be taken into consideration, as provided.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR THE MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP

ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP “That brain of mine is something more than merely mortal, as time will show.”

The successful Academic Scholar will be the pupil (internal or external) that achieves the highest marks in our Year 3 entry examinations on Friday 10 January 2020. The examinations will be set by Manor House School in Literacy and Mathematics and will last 30 minutes each.

The successful pupil will be expected to show a commitment to their studies in all subjects and they should be proactive in classroom discussion, take on leadership roles and endeavour to set a good working example to others. Homework must be completed and submitted on time.

In return, the Academic Scholar will benefit from: n

Joining the ‘Gifted and Talented’ Programme to complement and enrich their learning experiences.

Attending events such as study skills sessions or inspirational trips.

n

Being part of an in-house programme with organised mentoring sessions and various workshops with content tailored as closely as possible to their academic goals.
