EVERY TERM, WE RUN AN EXTENSIVE TIMETABLE OF EXTRA-CURRICULAR CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES WHICH FORM PART OF OUR CURRICULAR ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME AT MANOR HOUSE SCHOOL. Typically, we have over fifty clubs and extracurricular opportunities on offer at any one time, so there is always plenty to choose from; before school, at break or lunchtime and at the end of the school day, for academic improvement, for fitness, for the challenge of learning a new skill or improving an existing one, or for sheer fun. ANCIENT GREEK CLUB A selection of Year 6 girls who are identified as being linguistically able, are invited to ‘crack the code’ of the ancient Greek alphabet and in turn, aim to solve the
mystery of who stole the ‘Great Grecian Urn’! This is a fun introduction to another classical language, encouraging individual challenge whilst developing a love of learning.
BALLET
ART CLUBS The Preparatory and Senior School can indulge their creative side by attending an Art Club applicable to their year group. The younger girls have the opportunity to use different materials and develop ideas or themes outside of formal lessons. Senior girls have the freedom to experiment and use different mediums, ideas and techniques which they may previously not have considered.
Girls in Reception to Year 4 have the opportunity to experience ballet taught by a specialist ballet teacher. The girls work on basic ballet technique as well as following
the Royal Academy of Dancing syllabuses throughout the year, often leading to an examination being taken in the Summer term.
BANANAGRAMS
BRIDGE CLUB
Bananagrams is a word game, wherein lettered tiles are used to spell words. The game involves arranging your own tiles into a grid of connected words faster than one’s opponents. The object of the game is to be the first to complete a word grid after all the tiles have been used. It is offered to all girls from Year 4 to Year 6, usually during the Spring term. The girls enjoy coming weekly and battling against each other as well as learning new words. It is the anagram game that drives you BANANAS!
Bridge Club is offered to Year 4 up to Year 8 and, on occasion, Cribbage Club. Bridge, in particular, encourages team work as well as developing maths skills such as sequencing. Players need to think about strategy which boosts memory and although competing against each other, the spirit of the club is very much fun.

CARNEGIE BOOK CLUB
COMPUTING AND CODING
The CILIP Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Children’s Book Awards is the oldest and most prestigious in the country. It is run by librarians and it involves students and young people reading and reviewing the shortlisted books. Past winners have been: Terry Pratchett, Phillip Pullman and Lauren Child. Girls are invited to join to read, review and judge the shortlisted books, shadowing the real judging process. The winner is announced in June and the girls can find out if their nomination wins.
Year 6 have the opportunity of attending Computing Club to help them in any areas they may be struggling with. In addition, Coding Club is open to Years 3 to 6. Both clubs allow girls to develop their computing skills in a relaxed atmosphere encouraging a love of learning on an individual basis. These clubs alternate throughout the year.

The Food and Nutrition Department run a Cookery Club throughout the academic year. Girls select recipes which are discussed and assessed in terms of culinary skills, nutrition, individual tastes and presentation. In a relaxed atmosphere, different ages work alongside each other, older girls helping and advising the younger girls, forming strong

In the Preparatory School, Junior Choir is a fun activity held at lunchtime. Body and voice warmups include breathing exercises, followed by a mixture of expressive pieces from musical theatre, pop, rock and much more. Choreography to the works and music is key which helps with learning and expression of the words.
Senior girls can also audition for our Senior Vocal Group where reading music is essential. They work on complex SATB (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) harmonies, rhythms and contrasting pieces. Girls learn contrast and colour of a piece and exercises that stretch the vocal register helping with diction.

GCSE SKILLS CLUBS
Textiles Craft Club is offered to Years 7 and 8 and aims to allow girls to explore their innovative side whilst learning new techniques in textiles such embroidery and applique. Pupils are introduced to using a sewing machine and learn how to make an item using fabric.
Dance Club is offered to all girls from Years 3 - Year 6. It is an opportunity for them to dance to a variety of pieces of music; often their favourites. New dance moves will be taught and then used within a dance routine. Some weeks, the girls can be creative and make up their own routines or at least add their own moves to a preprepared routine. This is a truly creative and collaborative club and normally offered for one term throughout the academic year.

FOOTBALL - JOSH EVANS SOCCER SCHOOL Year 3 up to Year 6 can participate in Football sessions here in our beautiful grounds at Manor House School. The sessions are offered by the Josh Evans Soccer School, who have been coaching
soccer for over 10 years. The school works hard to provide coaching excellence to children with a broad range of soccer skills, with every child sharing a common goal of improving her soccer performance.

Teachers run ‘Support Clubs’ before, during or after school allowing girls the opportunity of dropping in to discuss, or work through, any part of the syllabus they may be finding challenging. Similarly, there are invitational sessions for girls who aspire to the very highest academic achievement and may well have the vision of becoming a future leader in their chosen field.
GIFTED AND TALENTED WRITING CLUB An invitational lunch time club for Senior girls who have been identified as talented writers. The aim of the club is to enter a variety of competitions, both locally and nationally, thus challenging the girls
to compose high quality writing on a competitive basis. In addition, the English Department runs a Public Speaking and Debate Club.

LAMDA - (LONDON ACADEMY OF MUSIC AND DRAMATIC ART) LESSONS Years 3 to Year 11 are offered LAMDA in the form of Acting, Speaking Verse & Prose and Using Spoken English (Speaking in Public). Girls can choose from these pathways which ultimately lead to examinations in: Acting: This pathway gives girls the opportunity to explore and perform a range of classical and contemporary texts whilst developing confidence and performance technique. Speaking Verse & Prose: This pathway is the entry point for Speech and Drama lessons and is the recommended route for those new to performing and speaking in public.
It is designed to nurture an appreciation for poetry and literature and develop confidence and speaking skills. Using Spoken English/Public Speaking: This pathway allows girls to explore a range of topics and develop their public speaking and presentation skills. The course aims to give girls an understanding of the power
LANGUAGE CLUBS
GERMAN CLUB
The Modern Foreign Languages Department offers the Senior school weekly lunchtime Grammar Clinics in French, Spanish and German. Girls may use the fully-equipped Language Laboratory to access language programmes and software. Pupils receive one to one support from an MFL teacher who can help with grammatical and linguistic topics or homework. All seniors are welcome to attend a Spanish Writing Club before school.
The German Club offers Year 6 girls the opportunity to enjoy and experience the German language – a great head start before Year 7! Girls are taught basic conversational language such as greetings and also have lots of fun singing songs in German, playing interactive games to practice new words and watching videos to learn about life in Germany. The club runs

It is a fun, computer-based, interactive, personalised learning programme which helps to develop fundamental reading, spelling and writing skills. Girls move up through the levels at their own pace, as they become secure in each area of learning. The programme supports and consolidates phonics, spelling rules and patterns, within the Primary English curriculum. The girls who choose to attend this club truly enjoy a love of learning.

MUSIC AND DRAMA
MATHS CLUBS In the Senior School, there is a Maths Breakfast Club for Year 11 GCSE girls in addition to morning, lunchtime and after school drop-in clubs to which all senior pupils are welcome. Girls can focus on a particular part of the curriculum and seek guidance and support for problem solving. A club is also held in the Prep School for Years 4 and 5.
PRIMARY MATHS CHALLENGE The Maths Challenge, offered by the Mathematics Association, extends the abler mathematicians in problem solving activities, promoting teamwork and support for one another. This challenge is open to Year 5 who attend regular sessions in the run up to the competition.
Creativity and Collaboration are values to be found in the Music and Drama Departments particularly when it is time for the annual ‘Junior’ and Senior Productions. Budding musicians have the opportunity to audition for the Production Band or Orchestra based upon ability and the instruments needed in the published arrangement. The Senior Production is staged in the Spring term with afternoon and evening performances over three consecutive days. The Junior Production is in the Summer term for one day, performing in the afternoon and evening. Girls may audition for major roles although there is the opportunity of working backstage or with our excellent sound and lighting facilities.
Girls in the Preparatory and Senior School may learn a variety of instruments outside of the classroom taught by visiting music teachers. They have the opportunity to take examinations both by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) and Trinity College. Lessons are delivered during the school day, amounting to thirty over the academic year and are usually on a rotation basis. Manor House School has the additional facility of Meadow Cottage in our beautiful school grounds for these instrumental lessons. Tuition is offered in the following instruments: In addition there are Prep and Senior Bands hosted by invitation only by our Director of Music. The Senior Drama Club meets on a Tuesday after school and performs various drama evenings throughout the year. Drama at Manor House School is seen as a valuable tool for increasing self-confidence and communication skills, as well as enabling girls to enjoy the sheer thrill and professionalism of being involved in one of our major school productions or Drama evenings.

MUSIC THEORY Year 5 and 6 girls, who have attained Grade 1 and above in a musical instrument, are invited to extend their knowledge alongside practical instrument learning by attending Music Theory classes.
VIOLIN GROUP Held fortnightly for Preps and Senior girls.
JUNIOR AND SENIOR ORCHESTRA Orchestra practice is held weekly for instrumentalists wanting to improve and learn how to play in an orchestral setting. Many girls also participate in the Flute Ensemble and String Group continuing to develop their performance skills. At Christmas they are invited to be part of the Nativity Band when the Lower Prep girls perform their Nativity Play to parents, quite magical!
SCIENCE CLUBS WIND ENSEMBLE For girls accomplished in Grade 2 or above in either Flute, Clarinet or Oboe, this club is held before school in Meadow Cottage.
Senior girls can sign up for the weekly clinics held in the Biology, Chemistry and Physics Labs at lunchtimes. Topics up for discussion are posted outside the Science office and girls are encouraged to attend for academic, practical and experimental sessions. Science teachers are on hand
QUIZ CLUB Year 3 to Year 6 girls have the opportunity of taking part in the Inter Schools Quiz Competition and in preparation they may attend the Quiz Club held early in the Spring Term. This club encourages girls to use reasoning and logic, develop decision making skills and increases general knowledge. It demonstrates the value of team work especially recognising that a younger girl may know something an older one does not thus encompassing the collaborative ethos of Manor House School values.
SCIENCE CREST AWARDS CLUB CREST is the British Science Association’s scheme for STEM project work that inspires young people to think and behave like scientists and engineers and offered to Year 6 students in the Prep School.

SWIMMING CLUB AND SWIM SQUAD On a seasonal basis the Preparatory and Senior School have the option of attending swimming clubs. Whatever their standard the girls can build on their abilities, confidence and stamina improving at their own pace. Our beautiful pool is heated and in addition to school galas it is used for triathlons. There is also an opportunity for the more competitive swimmers to attend early morning squad sessions with a view to building their stroke technique and competitive starts and turns.
SPORTS CLUBS & PRACTICE The Physical Education Department is a fundamental part of Manor House School offering a wide variety of sporting activities within and outside of the curriculum. From seasonal team games such as netball, hockey, cricket and rounders girls are also able to participate in tennis, football, rugby, badminton, swimming, trampolining and gymnastics. Girls partake in athletics with the option of joining a ‘Running and Fitness club’. All girls are able to participate in team and individual sports building their self-confidence and encouraging a positive
attitude towards physical activity. There are a variety of ‘Come & Play’ sessions held after school for a more relaxed and fun atmosphere in which to enjoy a sporting activity. For our Scholars and Gifted and Talented girls a ‘Strength and Conditioning’ programme is offered in addition to all the usual sporting activities. Sport practice sessions are scheduled according to year groups at lunchtimes on a daily basis and competitive matches are played against local schools and in District and County Championships.
TAEKWONDO This martial art club is offered to Years 5 and 6 as well as the whole Senior School throughout the year. It is an effective, weaponless art of self-defence and a way of maintaining all round fitness by improving balance, flexibility, stamina, strength and posture. Taekwondo encourages discipline and confidence which can lead to improvements in physical and mental health.
TAEKWONDO PERFORMANCE SQUAD (POOMSAE) By invitation only, this club is aimed at girls attending Taekwondo Club and training sessions at Predator Taekwondo, focusing on the discipline of Poomsae Taekwondo. Poomsae are a set sequence of movements that consist of the various fundamental stances, blocks, punches and kicks logically arranged in a meaningful order in response to attacks from multiple imaginary assailants. Each Poomsae pattern consists of an established sequence of movements which has a philosophical meaning and each Poomsae has its own character and distinct quality. Poomsae teaches a student balance, technique, co-ordination and self-discipline.

There is a thriving Tennis Academy at Manor House School which is run continuously throughout the academic year. Various weekly sessions are offered from Year 1 up to Year 11 with international coaches on hand encouraging girls to improve their tennis skills and up their game!

We host a number of triathlon events each year at Manor House and encourage pupils to enter these and other local events.
