Rotational Exhibits Park Towne Place Museum District Residences is uniquely situated on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway among the City of Philadelphia’s most cherished art and cultural institutions.

The vision for the community is to fully integrate Park Towne Place into the fabric of the Parkway – providing a unique art experience for residents and visitors alike.

In addition to the permanent art collection on display, rotational exhibits like You Are Here showcase both established and up-and-coming artists. Each exhibit includes companion educational and social opportunities to visit with artists who host talks and provide insights on their original works.

Edwin Hubble Cepheid Variable V1 (Andromeda Galaxy), Mia Rosenthal

From studying the buildings we populate, to the bodies we inhabit, to how we navigate the world at large, You Are Here explores themes of mapping and placemaking. In this exhibition, a group of seven artists take on various approaches to these themes to examine the places where we live, work, and play as a way to gain insight into our collective needs and aspirations.

Jennifer Johnson, Paul Fabozzi, Maria R. Schneider, and Miriam Singer reflect on and analyze our constructed surroundings. Fabozzi’s paintings highlight the epic structures from around the world. Johnson has made a special homage to Park Towne Place itself, and the larger movement of Mid Century Modern architecture for this exhibition: two ceramic installations that map the Park Towne Place campus itself, as well as the downtown boom of mid-century apartment buildings in Philadelphia.

Singer and Schneider also honor the architecture of Philadelphia with their paintings and lasercut constructions, respectively.

Mia Rosenthal and Deirdre Murphy zoom out to a galactic view, reminding the viewer that they are dwarfed by the cosmos. Conversely, Colleen Keefe’s large-scale works take us to a micro level, inside ourselves; mapping imagined places as a way of investigating our own bodies and constructed identities.

From the embodied, to the environment, to the galactic, the included artists use their respective talents to delineate the places that we exist in in their different forms.

PAUL FABOZZI Paul Fabozzi is a New York-based artist whose paintings and works on paper have been included in numerous solo and group exhibitions including in New York, NY; Philadelphia, PA; Los Angeles, CA; San Francisco, CA; Rome, Italy; London, United Kingdom; Busan, Korea.

His work is included in numerous private and public collections. Awards include fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts and the Café Royal Cultural Foundation. He is currently Professor of Fine Arts at St. John’s University in New York, NY. JENNIFER JOHNSON Jennifer Johnson is a Philadelphia-based sculptor who works with ceramics and fibers, as well as electronics, video, and performance to create installations. She is interested in the production of history and focuses on how architecture reveals lived experiences.​ Johnson’s installation work is largely based on historical research and unites her various areas of interest.

Notable installations include: An Archive of Desire, Glen Foerd on the Delaware, Philadelphia, PA; The Architecture of Remembering, Denmark; the Woodmere Annual, Philadelphia, PA; The Anderson Center, Red Wing, MN; Let me clear up a few things, Temple Contemporary, Philadelphia, PA; The Men’s Room, Crane Arts, Philadelphia, PA. Included in You Are Here is her most recent installation pieces about the architecture and history of Park Towne Place.

COLLEEN KEEFE Colleen Keefe received an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a BFA from Washington University Saint Louis, MO. Recent solo exhibitions include Speer Gallery, Bryn Mawr, PA; Bohlin Cywinski Jackson/ the Design Center, Philadelphia, PA; Robert Henry Contemporary, New York, NY; Abington Arts Center, Jenkintown, PA; and RHV Fine Art, Brooklyn, NY. Their work has been reviewed in the New York Times, Village Voice, Bushwick Daily, Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia City Paper, Toronto Globe and News, LA Times, Sculpture Magazine, theartblog.org and Title Magazine.

In addition to their studio practice, Keefe has been curating since 1995. First, as co-director of 57 Hope in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY (1995-2001), and currently as co-director of Mount Airy Contemporary in Philadelphia, PA (2009-present).

DEIRDRE MURPHY Philadelphia-based artist Deirdre Murphy decodes the interconnected patterns that exist in art and science through the lens of biological patterns and data visualization. Her research has led to artist residencies at Integral Molecular Biotech and Winterthur Museum.

Her paintings, prints and public art have been exhibited publicly.

MARIA R. SCHNEIDER Maria Schneider’s art is characterized by graphic simplicity and conceptual undertones. Schneider studied at The Art Student League in New York, NY, and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, PA. She is a member of NextFab, a makers-space in Philadelphia, where she works with lasers, LED lighting, and other technologies which she incorporates in her artistic practice. Previously, she completed a Law Degree and an MBA, disciplines that now inform her work. Drawing and experimentation have always been central to her artistic practice in which she marries art and technology using basic elements of drawing and simple lighting techniques. Her new ventures into photography use layering ideas to create mystical landscapes of color and shape. Her work is part of several corporate collections, as well as private collections.

MIRIAM SINGER Miriam Singer was raised in Buffalo, NY and now lives with her husband and son in Philadelphia, PA. She has exhibited at Paradigm Gallery, James Oliver Gallery, Stanek Gallery, Push Proof Studio, Brooklyn Art Gallery, LGTripp Gallery, Philadelphia, PA; Woodmere Art Museum, Philadelphia, PA; Rowan University, Glassboro, NJ; Luke and Eloy Gallery, Pittsburgh, PA; Gallery Siano, The Painted Bride, and Spector Gallery. Singer uses a combination of printmaking and drawing media to create her unique works on paper and designs for public art projects.

Singer currently teaches printmaking at Fleisher Art Memorial and Second State Press in Philadelphia and is a member of the artist collective, Space 1026.

MIA ROSENTHAL Mia Rosenthal is a Philadelphia-based artist who focuses on works on paper. Her drawings are included in the collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia,PA; the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia,PA; The Columbus Museum, Columbus, GA; Newfields, Indianapolis Museum of Art, Indianapolis, IN; Woodmere Art Museum, Philadelphia, PA; The Arkansas Arts Center, Little Rock, AK; Texas State University, San Marcos, TX; Minneapolis Institute of Art, MI; and The New York Public Library, New York City, NY. She holds an MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and a BFA from Parsons School of Design. She was awarded a Leonore Annenberg Fellowship Fund Grant for the Performing and Visual Arts and a fellowship at the Vermont Studio Center.
