With this body of work, artist Deborah Caiola welcomes us to consider and celebrate the identities that exist within each of us. Caiola created these layered, mixed media paintings from her imagination from 2016 – present. They are large-scale works that describe a range of archetypal identities. Caiola regards them as fundamental ways of being human that are passed down through generations and assumed through socialization and memory. To create a context for her pieces, Caiola constructs an installation in the gallery that echoes the universal and organic aspects of the characters.
