A Note From the Editor Hello Indiana District Key Club! My name is Peter Yacoub, and I am so honored to serve as your District Bulletin Editor for this year! As we are approaching fall and getting back into the school year, I wanted to give a few words of wisdom for each class, especially with everything concerning our nation, including a global pandemic and a nationwide outbreak of racial injustice.

For my incoming freshmen--don't be afraid!

High School is a wonderful place where you will make new friends, join new clubs, and be a part of new communities (hopefully the Kiwanis community)!! To my incoming sophomores--you may be feeling a little static right now. Focus on planning your future, setting high aspirations for yourselves, and forming the best versions of yourselves that you want to be. And for my incoming juniors--trust me, I've been there. Always remember to relax, remember that the mental pain is only temporary, and focus on where you'll be in the years to come. For my fellow seniors, we will get through this! College apps may make you burnt out or stressed, but always remember to take a few days off or focus on your mental health if you're feeling burnt out.

If there's anything we've learned through this climate, it's that we can make the most out of any situation we are put through. SECRETARY/TRASURER UPDATE TORI GRAY Hey Indiana! I can't believe I'm already halfway through my term as Secretary/Treasurer! These past six months have flown by! These past few months have brought so many changes and challenges for all of us, but I know we all have pushed through and thrived despite the obstacles! Despite COVID-19, I was still able to finish up my junior year (online of course) and have a great summer, including traveling to Virginia and Tennessee. I recently started back at school and I'm so excited for what my senior year is to bring!

These past couple months I have been working on editing the newsletters that each LTG made, making monthly reports, coming up with a new system for club monthly reports, working on the budget, and attending meetings via Zoom and taking minutes.

Recently, I have been working on developing a newsletter that I can send out periodically to keep the Indiana District updated on membership, dues, ect. I hope to have this up and going here in the next month or so, so be sure to be on the lookout!

District Committee Updates This year, our committees have been very hard at work completing directives and other projects to ensure the stability and growth of the Indiana District! Each Committee Chair has written an update on their committee, which you can read below!

KC CONNECTIONS THEA PUENTE Hello, my name is Thea Puente and I am the committee chair for the KC Connections Committee. This amazing committee also includes Kyla Franklin, Mary Higdon, Jackeline Garcia, Anny Lin, Desirae Carpenter, Emma Andres, and Nezira Djour. We have been working on getting in contact with all of our partnerships and preferred charities to start a line of communication and receive updates. We are making flyers and receive updated information to share with our members to know more about those partnerships and charities. During the next quarter, we will be working on a committee project and our fundraising idea for Riley Children’s Hospital.

STRUCTURE & FUTURE DREW YEAGER Hello Indiana District, my name is Drew Yeager and I am the chairman of the Structure/Future Committee. I want to give you an update on what we have been doing. I also want to take time to thank each and every member of this committee, as they have all worked diligently to ensure the Indiana District is structured in the best way possible.

To start, we reached out to both Indiana Kiwanis and Circle K Governors as well as numerous past Key Club Governors who have all gone through or are currently going through redivisioning. This allowed us to speed up the process by only gathering the most needed information. We gathered endless amounts of information regarding club sizes, time zones, travel distances, and so much more by surveying our Lt.Governors and by contacting Indiana Schools one by one. We made a more up-to-date and useful map for Lt.Governors to use when they are chartering new clubs. We collected information from all Lt.Governors on which clubs they plan to charter this year for map purposes, and we contacted every club to discuss updated club bylaws. Finally, we each put together several maps with our ideal layout based upon the information gathered, then we combined thoughts and ideas to make one map, which we are getting ready for INDB approval. It will then move to DLC HOD, and finally to Kiwanis for final approval. That is all for now, but we continue to work each and every day as does every committee to ensure that the Indiana District Key Club experience is one that you will remember for a lifetime.

K-FAM MEMBERSHIP CARLY HAWKINS The Kiwanis Family Membership Committee has been hard at work to produce many resources that will help Indiana Key Club as a whole. We are almost done with our directives for this quarter, and I couldn’t be more proud of what we all have accomplished. So far, we have created over 10 membership resources for the INDB aiming to increase membership and participation among the district. We’ve also made resources on how to charter and recharter a Key Club. Currently, the committee is finalizing a spreadsheet to help Lieutenant Governors know what schools do not have a Key Club in their division. We’ve put the names of these schools along with any key information the LTG would need all in one place, making the workload a lot easier on them! Two of the committee members are currently making resources explaining all levels of Kiwanis to inform members and/or potential members who may not understand the big picture of Kiwanis International.

In the works is how we as a committee can help our LTGs accomplish their membership and participation goals amongst their division and in their individual clubs. Their responses are being recorded in a spreadsheet and we are planning to follow up at a later date to see how their progress is in comparison with accomplishing their goals. We’ve sent the LTGs many membership resources they can use as well. We are here to support and guide the district board in any way we can when it comes to making our family bigger and stronger. My hopes for this committee in the future are for us to continue our success, leadership, and remain helping hands to all we communicate with. We’ve talked about coming up with a fun committee project, so I am excited to see that happen in the months to come.

MARKETING RAI SINGH Hello Indiana Key Clubbers! My name is Rai Singh, and I serve as the Lieutenant Governor for the Sycamore South Division as well as the Committee Chair of the Marketing Committee! My team of 9 (more joining soon!) wonderful and hard working committee members have accomplished many tasks since our directives were released in May. For starters, our social media followers increased dramatically since DLC 2020. Our Instagram has interacted with Key Clubbers across the state and even country! Our Twitter and Facebook following has increased, which was a major goal for the Marketing Committee to complete. Now, the committee is focused on revising our very outdated website, which hasn’t been updated since 2018. Alongside that, we are working on opening an online store where Kiwanis, Key Club International, and Indiana Key Club merchandise can be found and purchased. Some tasks the Marketing Committee hopes to achieve by October is to keep increasing our followers across all social media platforms, have the district store up and running, our website revised and redesigned, and for our posting schedule to be daily. EVENT PLANNING NEJERE' ONOMAKPOME Hello Indiana Key Clubbers! I am Nejere' Onomakpome, Event Committee Chair. Currently, the Event Committee and I are planning Virtual Fall Rally, which will consist of breakout rooms catered to all, amazing Key Note speakers, and service from home!

By the end of October, the Event Committee and I will have achieved: finishing the brainstorming process of Virtual Fall Rally, reaching out to Key Note speakers, decide on final breakout rooms, create our promo video, begin to open registration for Virtual Fall Rally, host a successful Virtual Fall Rally, and begin to brainstorm ideas for DLC 2021.

SLC Recap This year, due to COVID-19, ICON 2020 was canceled. However, in its place, the I-Council decided to create Summer Leadership Conference, a 3 day conference filled with impactful and worthwhile workshops.

Registration was free and took place at home, so SLC was a much more accessible and affordable option. In fact, attendance increased exponentially this year! Some workshops included: Thirst Project -Â How to create impact amidst a global pandemic, Food Insecurity, and Diversity and Inclusion! Personally, I attended the Editor Training workshop and found it extremely helpful and insightful! I gained a plethora of new tricks and tips to use for making my publications, as well as tips for social media! A big thank you to Angelo Lontok, IP New York District Bulletin Editor, for creating a wonderful presentation for Editor Training!

Club Spotlight HOBART KEY CLUB These past few months, Hobart Key Club has gone above and beyond with their service. Amidst a pandemic, they have still found a way to give virtual service with their event called Key Clubbers Got Talent. Get Involved!

Member Every Key Club is a part of a worldwide mission, but it all starts with you, the member. Everyone in Key Club, no matter the position, is a member first and foremost.

Club

Division

Key Clubs are established in a high school or equivalent institution, or a community-based club also may be chartered. Elected officers can include President, one or more Vice Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer, Editor and one Director from each class.

Each district is divided into territories called divisions, made up of various clubs. Each division is led by a Lieutenant Governor, a student leader who carries out the district's policies and provides support to the clubs.

District

International

A district is sometimes defined by one or several states, or by nation, and tends to correspond to a similar Kiwanis district. Each district is chaired by a Governor, who is elected by delegates at the annual district convention.

Key Club International encompasses all clubs within the organization's 33 districts and in other countries that are not included in any specific district. It is led by an international board, which is composed of a President, Vice President and 11 Trustees, all of whom are active Key Club student-members.

The U.S. Army

The Army has long been a leader in developing young people. We base our partnership with them on a foundation of shared values. When you connect your Key Club members with U.S. Army personnel, you’ll gain access to your local battalion’s support. Invite soldiers to speak at a club meeting and take part in service projects. As a public service, the Army also provides help with ACT, SAT and other tests with their March2Success initiative. Up with People strives to develop a sense of social responsibility in their participants through hands on community service. Youth Opportunities Fund The Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) is an endowed fund of the Kiwanis Children’s Fund which provides grants to Key Club and Key Club members for scholarships and service opportunities.

YOF grants can help you take action. Look around and identify service that needs to be done in your school, community or the world.

Then apply for a grant.

- YOF grants are only given to Key Clubs and/or individual club members. Grants are not given to divisions or districts.

- Grant amounts between US$100 to US$2,000 may be requested.
