Governor's Greeting Cheyenne Stewart

Hello Indiana District! My name is Cheyenne Stewart, and I am honored to introduce myself as Governor of the Indiana District Board for the 2020-2021 term! The District Leadership Convention was an absolutely successful event for which I thank the organizers who invested countless hours into careful planning and execution. I hope that attendees experienced the joys of a weekend filled with Key Club events, and each left inspired to continue the conscientious benevolent work we do. I can already tell that this year will be much different because of COVID-19, but we cannot let that affect our goals, passion, and devotion for the greatest volunteer organization in the world - Key Club! I am finishing my sophomore year of high school at Terre Haute South in the Collegiate Division. This past year, I joined the INDB and served as the Buffalo Trace Lieutenant Governor during my second year of Key Club. Growing as a leader with my Club, Division, and District has provided me with tools and experience that will be beneficial in guiding each and every one of you! If we haven’t met yet and you’d like to learn more about me, find me on Instagram (@cheystewart_) or simply email me (INgovernor.kci@gmail.com). I’d like to be as accessible as possible to each of you as this organization is yours to embrace. Although we may be set back by the pandemic, our goals for Indiana remain high. My substantial goal, as I stated at DLC, is to increase our membership by 10-15%, which means that we’d like to grow in size and gain 6 additional members at each club. This goal cannot be achieved without your help, so I hope to work alongside your clubs to boost your membership as well as the entire District’s. I trust that each Lieutenant Governor will charter or reactivate one club besides recruiting additional members to existing clubs. In addition, LTGs will remain in contact with each of their clubs to assist with additional recruiting strategies.

Another goal for this year is to accumulate 100,000 service hours within the District. This means each member needs to accumulate only 20 hours during the entire year, which is about 2 hours per month! It’s easy, isn’t it? Hopefully, a growth in membership will result in increased participation within each club, which will contribute toward this goal. The INDB also plans to maintain an active status on social media and our website. We also hope to create a seamless relationship between the District and Club levels in order to remain transparent and well-informed. Caring is indeed our way of life. During this unprecedented time, I ask that clubs stay connected and active within their communities while following social distancing guidelines. The INDB has made a lot of progress already by filling 13 out of 15 vacant divisions after DLC. To allow anyone to contribute to our organization, we have even opened our committees to ALL members, not just LTGs. With individual ideas from all around the state of Indiana, we can help our District thrive, reach goals, and branch out to all walks of life. I truly appreciate this opportunity to serve such a large and impactful community. You are all talented, creative, and diligent servant leaders who can add value to your communities. Once school is back in session, I hope to see your bright faces at our upcoming events! Remember, there are always ways to stay connected! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or ideas. Keep in mind that everyone can embrace a purpose, a population, or an event to make a difference - no matter the size of the impact! Make the best of your summer, and enjoy this time with your family! Yours in Service, Cheyenne Stewart Indiana Key Club Governor 2020-2021 KEY NEWS / JUNE 2020 6

"I have participated in Key Club for the past two years and through that time, it has given me a new perspective on life. I have realized that the best thing I can do for my community is help people in need. The main reason I joined the District Board is to serve my community and expand my reach and I’m looking very forward to this year!" - Angelina Dalloul, Collegiate LTG

"I'll be honest, I really only went to a Key Club meeting because there were donuts. But, in that meeting, I quickly fell in love with this organization. After my first DLC, my love for Key Club grew much stronger, and I decided to run for Club President. That was the best decision I have ever made, this past year of being a president has taught me a lot of things and made me a much stronger leader. I am so excited to grow and serve as a Lieutenant Governor this year, as I know great things are ahead!!" - Carly Hawkins, Potawatomi LTG

"This is my second year as an LTG, and they have been the best years of my life. Being surrounded with people with similar passions and personalities have been nothing but a positive experience. COVID-19 Update*

COVID-19 has created a large disruption in our day to day lives, whether it was a school year cut short, a competition canceled, or a job shutting down, everything has been affected by this global pandemic. Within Key Club, ICON 2020 has officially been canceled due to COVID-19. We wish we could have attended but the safety of our Key Clubbers comes before anything else. Read below to find out how you can stay healthy and safe during this unprecedented time! 1. WASH YOUR HANDS OFTEN Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after being in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands. 2. AVOID CLOSE CONTACT Avoid close contact with people who are sick. Some people without symptoms may be able to spread the virus. Stay home as much as possible and avoid non-essential travel. Practice social distancing by keeping at least 6 feet away from others if you must go out in public. 3. COVER YOUR MOUTH AND NOSE WITH A CLOTH FACE COVER Cover your mouth and nose with a cloth face cover when around others and when you must go out in public, such as to a grocery store. The cloth face cover is meant to protect other people in case you are infected. 4. COVER YOUR COUGHS AND SNEEZES Use a tissue to cover your nose and mouth, and throw used tissues in a lined trash can. If a tissue isn’t available, cough or sneeze into your elbow — not your hands. Wash your hands immediately. 5. CLEAN AND DISINFECT FREQUENTLY TOUCHED SURFACES DAILY This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets and sinks. Follow CDC guidance. *information listed was gathered from redcross.org, a registered humanitarian organization specializing in emergency assistance

Summer Service: How can I still make a difference? With everything going on during these uncertain times, you may be thinking that your ability to give service is limited. However, that is not the case! Here are five different ways you can participate in summer service while at home! 1. CARE FOR COVID-19 FRONTLINE WORKERS Say thank you to those working on the front lines! Create a thank you banner and place it in the yard to greet those delivering packages. Create a Facebook live ‘thank you’ video and share the wonderful service someone provided. Link it to their business social media page. Use chalk to draw colorful, encouraging messages on the sidewalk or on the driveway. Tip robustly when scheduling a delivery to your home.

2. CARE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT Recycle and repurpose to limit the amount of trash impacting the environment. Recycle old books, create recycling bins, repurpose plastic bags and containers, upcycle plastic bottles and containers! The possibilities are endless! 3. CARE FOR NEIGHBORS Let your neighbors know they are not alone! Brighten spirits by sending positive messages in creative ways. Paint rocks with uplifting messages and place them close to the road where people walking by your home will see them. Plant brightly colored flowers where neighbors walk the most frequently. When they bloom add a sign that says, “Pick what you need.” Do the same with vegetables and herbs.

4. CARE FOR THE ELDERLY During this time, the elderly are at the highest risk of getting sick. Show your support and love for our seniors by making any of these DIY projects at home! Make a placemat with uplifting messages. Try making some no-slip socks! Attempt to make some memory card games. Make a songbook with lyrics (songs from the 1940s, 50s and 60s)! 5. CARE FOR THE HOMELESS

Repurpose gently used items and create gifts to make times spent at a shelter more comfortable during this time. Create a My Favorite Things backpack. Collect items in gently used condition with things you love for someone who is close to your age. Place all these items in a backpack. Make sure everything is washed and folded nicely. Make a craft box and pack it with everything needed, plus instructions to make different crafts.
