A Note From the IP Editor PETER YACOUB Dear Indiana District, Oh gosh...where do I even begin. From the time that I was elected to now, I have grown so much not only as an editor, but as a leader, a giver, and a person. Serving on the Indiana District Board as the Bulletin Editor amidst an insanely unpredictable pandemic has been nothing but easy, and there were innumerable times where I felt like giving up, quitting, and turning off my computer and bleakly sitting in bed. However, if there is one thing that serving on this extraordinary board has taught me, it's this: perseverance. Throughout this year, the Indiana District persevered and we got to work, moving most of our outreach online and spreading our work on social media. I am so proud of all the committees for working so hard even when sometimes (let's be real, most of the time), COVID-19 made us unsure of what our next steps would be. I am especially proud of the marketing committee for assisting me endlessly throughout my position and helping me remodel the website.

However, more than anything, I am especially proud and thankful for you guys: the members. Without membership, my position would have had no meaning. You guys gave me meaning, and gave me a reason to keep putting out content.

I will forever cherish the wonderful memories that I have made serving alongside my Exec Board and the LTGs, and I am cannot wait to apply all of the skills learned through Key Club into my life in college and beyond. Key Club is so much more than service. It's about camaraderie, selflessness, and determination. I am beyond excited to see the amazing work that Caryssa completes in her position this year, and I am already astounded with the hard work and creativity that she has exhibited thus far. I wish nothing but the best for this year's board, and I look forward to seeing all of the wonderful work the new Indiana District Board completes this year.

I'm so thankful for all the ways that I have grown in the past year. I'm also even more thankful for the friendships I've formed and the memories we've made. DLC 2021 was definitely a weekend I will look back on forever with only positive thoughts. A special thank you to my division for all the hard work you've put in this year! Never stop serving!"

JACOB LEE - IP WAPAHANI DIVISION LTG "2020-2021 had been a crazy year for the whole District Board with the COVID-19 Pandemic.

With the pandemic limiting in-person meetings, the Board could not meet together for the majority of the year. Despite the many obstacles created, the Board was able to bond over Zoom meetings and create amazing friendships. What I loved most about being a Lieutenant Governor was the opportunity to make close friends including club officers, committee members, and the Board!"

Committee Recap Key Club Connections Committee Chair Kyla Franklin "I am very proud of the Key Club Connections Committee this year! As a committee, we kept in constant contact with Key Club's charity partners such as Riley's Hospital for Children and The Thirst Project. We planned fundraisers with our charity partners, and held meetings with representatives from various organizations. We also formed our own little family as a committee and bonded over committee calls, virtual games, and movie nights. Our committee was also able to educate members about the Delivering Hope and Health Campaign for Riley's Hospital for Children at DLC 2021. Each of the members grew in their own ways and helped contribute to making a positive difference in the world!"

Committee Recap Kiwanis Family Committee Chair Carly Hawkins "The Kiwanis Family Committee was very successful in their term! Many resources were created for the INDB and all key club members to use that were high quality, and something we are all proud of. Directives were always fun to make come to life, as we were all creative! As committee chair, I can definitely say that the others on this committee are determined and passionate hard workers. If it wasn’t for them and their willingness to be team players, I would have found myself way more stressed that needed.

However, it wasn’t their creative or quick skills for directives that has made this committee year great. It’s been the bond. This whole committee has become a little family, without even meeting in person. Friendships and memories were made that will last a long time. I’ll forever be grateful for the friends that I got to serve with, and I thank them for supporting me as their committee chair. The committees create smaller and closer connections with people on the district board, and it’ll forever be one of my favorites parts of being on the district board. " 11

Committee Recap Marketing Committee Chair Rai Singh

"Hello everyone! First, the Marketing Committee thanks all Indiana Key Clubbers who’ve engaged with us through social media this past year. Without you guys, our work and efforts to establish strong connections with all clubs wouldn’t be possible.

The Marketing Committee accomplished many tasks in a short period of time. From the District website being updated to revamping our social media platforms to fit an aesthetic and be more informational, the Marketing Committee has set a precedent for future boards to follow in our footsteps. Most importantly, my committee set the basis for a district store, which will hopefully be launched this year. Be on the lookout for fresh merchandise and items soon! Once again, it was an honor serving as your Marketing Committee chair. Until next time!"

Committee Recap Structure/Future Committee Chair Drew Yeager "To begin, I want to take time to thank each and every member of this committee, they have all worked diligently to ensure the Indiana District is structured in the best way possible and that the Elections Process works as swiftly and smoothly, even through a global pandemic. To start, we reached out to both Indiana Kiwanis and Circle K Governors as well as numerous past Key Club Governors who have all gone through the redivisioning process. This allowed us to speed up the process by only gathering the most needed information. We gathered endless amounts of data regarding club sizes, time zones, travel distances, and more by surveying our Lt.Governors and by contacting Indiana Schools one by one. We made a more up to date and useful map for Lt.Governors to use when they are chartering new clubs. We collected information from all Lt.Governors on which clubs they plan to charter this year for map purposes and we contacted every club to discuss updated club bylaws. Each committee member put together several maps with an ideal layout based upon the information gathered, then we combined thoughts and ideas to make one map, which passed INDB approval, and then moved to House of Delegates at DLC and passed unanimously. Next, we prepared data to increase the efficiency of map and Policy approval by clubs, Delegates, and Kiwanians. We prepared email statements to send to you, our clubs, for an update on what will change about your division and how you as a club would be affected. Next, we started preparing for HOD, Caucusing, and Nominating Conference, maintaining steady progress in the elections process, and we offered our support to the hardworking, Event Planning Committee.

Finally, reviewed Bylaws again for final changes, created election presentations, infographics, videos, and animations for DLC attendees, delegates, and candidates. I cannot put into words all of the hard work that my committee members have put into the structure and future of the Indiana District of Key Club International."

Committee Recap Event Planning Committee Chair Nejere Onomakpome "This year as the Event and Planning Committee we faced many challenges and obstacles. With Covid-19 restrictions on events, we had to alternate and reimagine Indiana District Events. As Event and Planning Committee it's our job to create, plan, and organize Fall Rally 2020 and Indiana's District Leadership Conference 2021. Easier said than done. Our first battle was Covid-19, we didn't know how we could make in-person events safe while our nation was battling Covid-19. We made the hard decision and turned our events to virtual. In a Covid-world, everyone is burnt-out and tired of sitting behind their screens. Knowing this we made sure that Virtual Fall Rally and DLC 2021 would be fun and interactive. Virtual Fall Rally 2020 hit new heights in the midst of a pandemic! We had over 100 attendees join. Higher attendance than the previous Fall Rally's that were inperson. Seeing what it takes to put together a virtual event we applied that experience to Virtual DLC 2021. For DLC 2021 we brought DLC home to our attendees. With DLC registration came with DLC 21 stickers and pins, Key Club "Eat. Sleep. Volunteer. Repeat." pins, space candy, admit one ticket to DLC, DLC 21 service project, and raffle tickets! Like Virtual Fall Rally 2020, we hit new accomplishments with DLC 2021. DLC 2021 had over 130 attendees and multiple watch parties. This is the highest attendance for DLC in 3 years! At DLC 2021 we connected the K's, Indiana District Circle K joined us for our virtual service project. Tying in with DLC 2021 theme, "Service Written in the Stars", a portion of DLC 2021 t-shirts sales were donated to Make A Wish Foundation. Indiana District Key Club donated over $1200 and was able to make kids' dreams come true. A special thanks to Event Committee Members: Caryssa Roark, Stella Cusson, Lauren Ewing, Naomi Maung, Meghan Horn, Emma Ramirez, Alexandra Hill, and Heidi Polizotto. This womenled team was able to conquer so many things this year despite the battles. Thank you for sticking by my side! " 14

DLC 2021

DLC 2021 was a weekend long event held virtually for members and in-person for the Board. The weekend consisted of workshops, service, elections, and fun!

Workshop Review Over the course of the weekend, there were a wide range of awesome workshops hosted by members of the INDB! Read below to read excerpts from a few of our workshops that we hosted!

Down to Earth - "Down to Earth was an extremely successful workshop! The workshop was centered around privilege, and consisted of an informative video followed by a fun virtual privilege walk! Afterwards, we had a very insightful discussion on how we can identify our privilege and be aware of it so that we can uplift and support others around us. Definitely a 10/10 workshop and I would love to attend a similar workshop at DLC next year!"

Magnificent Martian Marketing Tips - "From right off the bat, I knew this was going to be a fun workshop. Rai and Peter did an amazing job at engaging with the audience, and had a good balance of fun and information. They made marketing seem fun, and I definitely gained a large amount of useful tips that I can apply to my own social media accounts to spice them up!"

Workshop Review "This was great. I loved it!"

Stellar Pets - "This was a super relaxing way to end our workshop sessions! During this breakout room, we showed off our pets and even discovered a useful service project, which was making dog toys out of old t-shirts. There were three exciting contests to enter your pets in: cutest, ugliest, and coolest. It was a super great workshop where everyone had a lot of fun!"

Keynote Speaker Affectionately known by his students as “J-Hizzy,” Josh Hiscock has a love for everything pop culture – a common, relatable theme that is woven into the work he does when speaking with students about the transformational power of leadership and social change. He is a lover of music, movies, and all things FUN! Josh gave some useful advice on Friday night, including some tips on service!

Service Project At this year's DLC, we wrote postcards to hospitalized children! It was a simple project that anybody could participate in - whether they were on Zoom or in person. Cards got mailed out and the children loved them!

Club & Member Highlights Hobart High School

Standing out above all else was their ability to raise over $8000 for Riley Children’s Hospital, one of Key Club’s partners. This club has had an outstanding record of attendance at division, district, and K family events and is always willing to help in any way possible! This highlight goes to Hobart High School!

Kendall Lemon

This member has been in Key Club for only one year. She has attended everything from club meetings, to DCMs, to Fall Rally, to the Kiwanis Family Conference. She brought back to her club everything she learned about passion, commitment, creativity, and service. She serves on her club’s board and is the Kiwanis liaison, communicating with their sponsor regularly to ensure success of their projects and her Key Club. This highlight goes to Hobart High School’s freshman, Kendall Lemon.

Hello everyone! My name is Shenyi Gong, and I am your new Secretary/Treasurer for 2021-2022! In the past year, I have been serving as the treasurer for my home club, a member of the INDB Marketing Committee, and a member representative on the Global Relations Committee for International Key Club. In my free time, I like to play tennis and piano. I'm so excited to work with and get to know all of you this year!

Executive Board Caryssa Roark Hi everyone! I'm a junior from Hobart High school and I'm SO excited to be your bulletin editor for the 2021-2022 year! I'm also involved in soccer, National Honor Society, and The Yellow Tulip Project. I hope to create magazines that are both interactive and enjoyable. I'm thrilled to see what this year holds for all of us! :)

Angelina Dalloul Hello, I am your new Webmaster for 20212022! I am currently a junior at Terre Haute South Vigo High School. This past year, I served as the Collegiate Division Lieutenant Governor. My main objective for this term is to ensure that the website and all of our social media platforms stay updated and full of exciting news! Some of my hobbies include embroidering and playing tennis. Governor Update Hi, Indiana Key Club! My name is Elijah Puente, and I am ecstatic and honored to introduce myself as the 2021-2022 Indiana District Governor! The Executive Board, Lieutenant Governors, and I were recently elected by all of you at this year’s District Leadership Convention (DLC). DLC 2021 was an impactful, successful event. A big shout out to the Events Planning Committee and everyone else on the 2020-2021 INDB for effectively collaborating to produce this amazing event! We had more members attend than ever before. Whether it be learning something new from a breakout room or creating a valuable bond with someone, I hope everyone who attended had a meaningful, memorable experience.

I am currently a Junior at Hobart High School, which is located in Northwest Indiana. Although I wish I was a year younger, I joined Key Club my sophomore year. I immediately knew that I had found the organization for me: an organization that would provide me with opportunities to meet new, like-minded people, build my leadership skills, and most importantly, act on my passion for service. Last year, I served on the INDB as the Duneland Division Lieutenant Governor. Although my term was very different due to a global pandemic, I loved every moment I spent in this role and looked forward to serving on the INDB again. Luckily, you all granted my wish when you elected me as District Governor.

I understand that this past year was indeed one like no other, and it affected everything surrounding us, including our Key Clubs. My main goal as governor is to combat the negative effects this pandemic had on our district and ensure that each Key Clubber’s irreplaceable experience in this organization remains intact. Last year many clubs could not pay dues or were unable to meet. It’s important these clubs receive the necessary resources and support so they can recover and serve their communities once again.

I plan to accomplish my main goal through these implementations: Hold a district-wide officer training before Fall Rally to train leaders to guide their clubs to success Create an online service project directory full of COVID-friendly service projects Attract members through these steps and increase Indiana’s membership to its previous glory Establish an Indiana E-Key Club that fully meets and serves virtually Continue Key Clubbers Got Talent to raise money for Riley Like I said before, I acknowledge that this past year was strenuous for everyone, and I know that these goals will not be easy to accomplish. They definitely cannot be done alone. On behalf of the INDB, I am asking every Key Clubber in Indiana to tap into their servant hearts, push past the adversaries we’ve faced, and go the extra mile this year to help their Key Club persevere. I know we are all capable of success, and I am confident each one of you will achieve it. The time is now to do what we do best: get out there and serve our homes, schools, and communities!

I hope to meet many of you at District events throughout my term. Until then, feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, concerns, ideas, etc.!

International Update Summer Leadership Conference The Kiwanis Youth Programs Board of Trustees has accepted the recommendation of the Key Club International Board of Trustees and has canceled the 2021 convention.

On March 15, the Key Club International Board unanimously recommended canceling the convention because health and travel restrictions made gathering at Walt Disney World Resort® inadvisable and impractical.

The KYP Board made its decision on March 18, 2021.

“These decisions are never easy,” said Paul Palazzolo, 2020-21 Kiwanis Youth Programs Board chair. “We understand our student leaders were planning to enjoy fellowship and education in person. Key Club International is currently planning another online Key Club Summer Leadership Conference where more students from around the world can enjoy meeting each other and learning together.”

The Key Club International bylaws provide for the Key Club International Council to convene and elect the 202122 Key Club International Board.

Details are being finalized. The international council consists of the board of trustee members and district governors.

“This was a difficult decision, and we believe it was the right thing to do. The Key Club International Board is excited to explore opportunities to ensure that our members can convene online, just as we did last year with the Key Club Summer Leadership Conference. We are creating ways to interact with fellow members virtually and provide inspiring programs later this summer,” said Alex Drahos, Key Club International president.

Key Club International will develop online programming to give members an opportunity to interact and participate in education and officer training. Registration is scheduled to open in a few weeks. Details will be released soon.

“After analyzing the data and working with our hospitality partners, it became clear that hosting an in-person convention that allowed for international participation would be impossible due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. We acknowledge the tough and thoughtful votes made by the Key Club International Board and Kiwanis Youth Programs Board,” said Michelle StudyCampbell, executive director of Kiwanis Youth Programs.

“We are hard at work to provide an interactive, energetic, and fun program for the Key Club Summer Leadership Conference that will allow our student leaders to grow in their roles. We will be in touch with those details.”
