Creating Trophy Replicas & Trophy Restoration As well as our work restoring trophies to their former glory, we are often asked to make replica trophies – this may be a new, modern take on an existing design, an exact reproduction of an existing trophy, an identical but smaller version of a trophy or a replacement for a lost trophy. Detailed and traditional techniques of craftsmanship are needed to replicate methods, such as original chasing on silver and hand enamelling, as well as modern, newly introduced methods of silver and gold smithing.

How we custom make a trophy:

Creating the DHL Fastest Pitstop Award 2019 Inkerman helped to create this one-off trophy for Bright Partnerships, DHL’s global sponsorship agency, who created a truly intricate and complex design. How to create a trophy which when seen from above featured a Formula 1® car but when seen from the side showed the DHL logo. The main body of the design was created by pouring individual layers of acrylic which were then printed with each layer of the car. This process was repeated 20 times to create the 3 dimensional car within the block. This was fitted to the yellow acrylic base with hand painted red accent and printed award details and logos. The finished piece was shipped by DHL to the end of season race, the Formula 1® Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, before being presented to the winners

Aston Martin Red Bull Racing. The team managed to break the world record three times that season ending up with a time of 1.82 seconds during Max Verstappen’s pit stop in the Brazilian Grand Prix. A remarkable trophy with impressive detailing, leaving the motoring world wondering how it was created.

Designing a range of custom trophies:

Official trophy suppliers for Goodwood Racecourse

During our initial meeting with the Goodwood Racecourse team we suggested they introduce a bespoke design to customise their trophies. We spotted a potential design when looking at the three horses included within their racecourse logo which we learnt are taken from a George Stubbs painting called ‘Racehorses exercising at Goodwood’ (1759 - 60). The Stubbs painting depicts the estate steward, dressed in green livery with gold frogging, pointing out three racehorses hooded and blanketed for exercising. The jockeys wear frock coats, their yellow and scarlet ducal livery matching the horses’ colour. It was the Stubbs painting and the racecourse logo that inspired us to make a wraparound design of the three horses as you can see in the photos. All the trophies we supply to Goodwood are now etched with the three horses making them truly unique, delivered in our red boxes with Goodwood yellow ribbon.

The Cheltenham Festival Cheltenham Racecourse

Now in our third year as official trophy supplier to The Festival™ presented by Boodles, providing in all, some 75 trophies made in crystal, sterling silver, bronze and leather which are presented over the four days of racing, many with gold plated accents and all engraved with individual race details. The Inkerman team take up residence in the Trophy Toom on the course taking trophies to the Winners’ Enclosure for each race, helping look after winning connections during the presentation and returning trophies ready for collection at the end of day. Some of the highlights each year are always collecting the historic Gold Cup prior to the running of the race and watching peoples faces as we carry it to the paddock ahead of the race, polishing some of the historic perpetual trophies ahead of television coverage with the well known ITV racing crew of Ed Chamberlain and Francesca Cumani and catching up with friends and clients in the paddock.

The Grand National Festival Aintree Racecourse For 14 years Inkerman have been working with Aintree and their sponsors designing and making the trophies for The Randox Health Grand National meeting. We supply nearly all of the trophies for the winning owner, trainer and jockey of each race, so with seven races a day we deliver over 60 trophies for the three day meeting. An Inkerman team spends four days in Liverpool and hosts the Trophy Marquee, with the help of soldiers from the Royal Mercian & Lancastrian Yeomanry who add to the occasion! For each race, trophies are carried to the Winners’ Enclosure and set out for presentation. Traditionally we provide crystal, silver and leatherware etched and embossed with our distinctive Aintree design.

The Derby Festival Epsom Downs Racecourse

We have been privileged to work with Investec, designing and making trophies and VIP guest badges for The Investec Derby Festival since their initial sponsorship in 2011. Trophies were produced each year for all the races including The Investec Oaks and the Coronation Cup. The Investec Oaks Trophy for the winning owner, shown left, is a replica of an original bronze by Philip Blacker, the renowned equine sculptor. The trophy was designed to feature the unique ‘Derby’ course at Espom with the horses and jockeys racing to the finish line, and is set on an oak plinth with an engraved silver plaque. Gifts, trophies & awards for Guards Polo Club Guards Polo Club have been clients of ours since 2007 and always keep to a theme of new contemporary designed gifts. Prizes that are not for the mantelpiece or to go in a glass cabinet, but to be used everyday.

We have commissioned an exclusive polo scene including the Guards Polo Club clubhouse which is etched onto our glassware. Prizes range from champagne coolers to wooden boot jacks and are always well received by the winners and runner ups. Supporting conservation in Africa:

Our bespoke range of gifts for Tusk

Tusk’s mission is to amplify the impact of progressive conservation initiatives across Africa. The challenges facing the people and wildlife in Africa are greater than ever; the world is experiencing an extinction crisis caused almost entirely by human activity. This will only worsen as the human population continues to grow. Our animal collection of glass, silver and pewter has been created in aid of Tusk, who have supported conservation intervention in Africa for 30 years. We have been working with Tusk for the past decade, but it doesn’t feel like work at all. In fact, they are more like an extension to the Inkerman family. The range has expanded ten fold, having Maasai, elephant and rhino as our initial Tusk designs. Now there is a whole conservation range of gifts to choose from to help support this wonderful charity as much as we can, with 20% of each sale being donated to Tusk. You can support them by purchasing a product from our collection; choose a particular animal or opt to have the whole conservation range etched onto your product of choice.

Helping the racing community:

A custom racehorse scene for Racing Welfare

Racing Welfare are a charity supporting the workforce of British horseracing. They offer professional guidance and practical help to the stud, stable and support staff whose dedication is vital to the wellbeing of racing. Their mission is to enhance the welfare of people from the horseracing and thoroughbred breeding community, by providing proactive support throughout and after their working lives. We have designed a custom scene for Racing Welfare depicting a group of racehorses on an early morning hack. The design can be etched on a range of glassware, including tumblers, fruit bowls and champagne coolers, making lovely gifts or great prizes. Inkerman were delighted to earlier in 2020, which helped Covid-19.

How we are becoming more sustainable g

CLIMATE NEUTRAL PRINTING

Climate neutral printing offsets the exact amount of green house gases emitted during the production of your printed product. Our printers calculate the CO2 emissions which are offset by supporting a project that reduces CO2 emissions effectively. Their chosen project is the Clean Oceans Plastic Bank in Haiti, Indonesia and the Philippines. Waste is collected and exchanged at the local Plastic Bank branches for money, food and other basic necessities. Over 8 million tons of plastic waste end up in the ocean every year, and this project makes sure that the plastic never even makes it to the sea. It is recycled and processed into what is called ‘social plastic’, which is made into new products again.

ECO-FRIENDLY PAPER

Whilst we know it’s not totally eco-friendly to print on paper, we’ve done everything we can to tell our story in the most sustainable way possible. We use a local printers that print our brochures on FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified paper, which means it has been sourced in an environmentally friendly, socially responsible and economically viable manner, so don’t throw this brochure away! Pass it on to friends before recycling it. We will also be printing less copies of our brochure this year and creating an online PDF version which will be emailed to all our clients.

RECYCLED PACKAGING

As not everything we receive from our suppliers can be recycled, we re-use all plastic wrapping, packaging chips and cardboard boxes. We constantly review all methods of recyclable packaging.

100% BIODEGRADABLE BOXES

LOW CARBON FOOTPRINT

We have a much lower carbon footprint than our competitors as we purchase products from the UK. This means that we do not receive shipments from China where pollution regulations are far less strict than Britain.

LESS EMAIL PRINTING

Small things that we do day-to-day in the office can also help with being environmentally sustainable. We all make an effort to be more conscious about switching lights off throughout the day, and we only print when absolutely neccessary.
