18th July is not just a day we celebrate the life of a man that epitomized sacrifice but also a day we get to participate in the future we want to create.

Trading 67 minutes to commemorate 67 years of lost opportunities and lost memories is a window of experience. Rising to this challenge opens our hearts and hands to living a life of "me before you".

Most of our lives are routined and centre around our to do list. This year it is my hope that for 67 minutes, we can all find ourselves stepping away from the ordinary to do something extra ordinary.

Whether you choose to venture into the discomfort of the needy, put a smile on a kids face by lighting up a hospital ward or doing a clean up in your local neighborhood, the reward will out weigh the sacrifice.

In my own life I have found the more empathy and compassion I extend, the more purposeful I feel. We all know that purpose fuels living fully. Knowing why you're here and what you're here to do is a deep set desire of every human being. It is in the acts of kindness, the unselfish generosity and in the gentleness of loving that we find this purpose.

On the 18th of July, take 67 minutes to venture into unusual and become extraordinary. You may just find yourself going from mundane to magical.

MANDELA DAY Nelson Mandela Day remains rooted in the call Mandela made in 2009 to honour him by working in communities rather than by celebrating his birthday.

The theme for 2022 is “Do what you can, with what you have, wherever you are.”

MandelaDay.com states the call to action as being broad and as inclusive as possible, in order to identify those around you and do what you can to make a difference for them.

MANDELA DAY CAMPAIGN On Mandela Day itself, citizens are encouraged to spend 67 minutes of their time in service to others in need. These 67 minutes are in appreciation of the 67 years that Nelson Mandela spent fighting for justice, equality and human rights for all.

What can you do this Mandela Day? Each 1 Feed 1: Launched by the Mandela foundation, this campaign supports individuals and families who are facing hunger.

“The idea is for all South Africans to contribute to a food distribution network by donating to the foundation. With our partners, we will be distributing food hampers to support families for a minimum of three months.”
