As Women’s Day in South Africa approaches it allows us to take a moment and remind ourselves of all the amazing women that surround us.

We have so many roles as women, we should be more encouraged to admire our strengths from time to time. I stand proud as a woman in today’s time where women are becoming more and more powerful and resilient.

It is my hope that I can inspire fellow women through example and encouragement. We are the strongest when we cheer each other on. As a young working individual, I have a strong sense of responsibility to take charge of my future with the opportunities I have been given.

WOMEN’S DAY Women's Day marks the anniversary of the great women's march of 1956, where women marched to the Union Buildings to protest against the carrying of pass books.

On 9 August 1956, about 20 000 women marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest against legislation aimed at tightening the apartheid government's control over the movement of black women in urban areas.
