Day Of Reconciliation The Day of Reconcilia琀椀on has been created to mark the end of apartheid.

The purpose of this day was to foster unity and reconcilia琀椀on across the country.

16 December marks a pivotal day in South African history, encapsula琀椀ng two significant events.

In 1838, the Ba琀琀le of Blood River unfolded between the Voortrekkers and Zulus as the former sought land in South Africa, cemen琀椀ng a commemora琀椀on known as the Day of the Vow. In 1961, Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK), the military arm of the African Na琀椀onal Congress (ANC), emerged, pursuing armed resistance against apartheid a昀琀er the Sharpeville Massacre in 1960.

Eventually, the 16 December became the Day of Reconcilia琀椀on in 1995, symbolizing the unity between Afrikaner and libera琀椀on tradi琀椀ons under South Africa's first non-racial, democra琀椀c government, emphasizing reconcilia琀椀on and na琀椀onal harmony.

It is not our differences that divide us.

It is our inability to recognize, accept and celebrate those differences.
