Dear Phillip, Tommy, John and Julie, David and Alwyne, Greg, Debbie, Michael, Alistair, David, Jamie, Brad and Denise
I appreciate that the potential sale of Stretan Angel will not be front of mind for you all — and understandably so. From winning Stakes races at two, to defeating a high-class field in the Danehill as a spring threeyear-old, to going down by a head in the G1 Goodwood, her record is fantastic. She continues to race well and looks likely to enhance her record even further through the balance of the season.
That said, she is a very valuable breeding prospect and if it is in your intention to sell her, it is important that you consider your strategy so as to maximise your return. Part of my role is to ensure that you give consideration to Inglis if and when consideration is given to selling her.
The reality is that up until five or six years ago, Inglis did not offer a viable sale option for owners of quality breeding stock, but the evolution of The Chairman’s Sale has completely changed the landscape. Since 2021, turnover has increased by an impressive 93%, grossing nearly $55 million this year. The sale has firmly established itself as one of the world’s most lucrative and successful breeding stock auctions, setting new benchmarks year after year.
The Stokes stable and connections of Mileva experienced the sale firsthand when she realised $700,000 in 2023, but with all due respect to her, Stretan Angel operates on an entirely different level. Since the sale of Mileva, The Chairman’s Sale has evolved even further — attracting global attention and achieving record-breaking results, as the accompanying presentation will demonstrate.
Stretan Angel would be a headline act at the 2026 Chairman’s Sale. Through our tailored marketing and ‘select’ catalogue, she will stand out like a beacon and history shows that the elite mares at Chairman’s consistently achieve exceptional results. Recent examples speak for themselves: Amelia’s Jewel ($3.8m), Tutta La Vita ($3.2m) and Nimalee ($3.6m), each the standout breeding stock sale result of their respective years.
The Chairman’s Sale is more than a sale — it’s an experience. It is a celebration of excellence, of partnerships and of the stories that make our industry so special. Speak to the connections of Bella Nipotina, She’s Extreme, Montefilia or Shout The Bar and they will tell you how incredible the night truly is.
Please be assured that the Inglis team and I are fully committed to making this a memorable and highly successful occasion for you and your partners, and we will do whatever it takes to achieve that outcome. Should you have any questions, I would be delighted to assist at any stage.
Congratulations on another successful spring with Stretan Angel — and wishing you continued success through the remainder of the season.
Kindest regards,
Chairman’s

Chairman’s OWNERS’ EXPERIENCE
“It’s like fireworks. It’s something very unique, not many people get to experience it. And if you are in a position where you’ve got a lovely mare to offer, this sale also gives you not only the opportunity for you to sell your mare really well, but to give your clients and give your owners a great experience, a unique experience, that you can’t get anywhere else.”

Chairman’s & LOCATION TIMING
The timing of The Chairman’s Sale, in early May, has been proven to work exceptionally well.
It allows you to sell a month earlier than at the Magic Millions National Sale and so get paid earlier. It is the first breeding stock sale of the year, service fees are set, the major racing in Sydney and Melbourne is complete and every buyer is fully loaded for the sale. We have seen fillies/mares make a premium at the sale for each of the last number of years and the expectation is that the demand for quality breeding stock will again be strong in 2026.
Chairman’s Sale
Held at Inglis’ world-class Riverside Stables complex in Sydney, The Chairman’s Sale was conceived with the idea of optimising the sale experience for both horses and connections. The major bloodstock investment in Australia is consolidated around Sydney and the Hunter Valley and thus the sale is held in a convenient and accessible location for all major investors at a time of the year when their focus is on acquiring quality bloodstock.
Chairman’s INTERNATIONAL CONNECTION
Inglis has a broad network of international contacts across the bloodstock world.
We have existing relationships forged and consolidated over decades at the forefront of the Australian racing and breeding industries, while we are constantly working to develop new investors to introduce to the Australian market.
Our representatives attend major bloodstock jurisdictions around the world annually, ensuring that no stone is left unturned as we work to deliver outstanding results for our clients, year after year.
Inglis’ International Business Development Manager Nicky Wong has an unparalleled range of contacts across the Far East, Middle East and into North America and serves to complement the already extensive relationships held by the likes of Arthur Inglis, Mark Webster, Sebastian Hutch, James Price, Chris Russell, Harry Bailey, Brett Gilding and other members of the Inglis team.
Inglis has a dedicated Japanese representative – Satomi Oka. She is a trusted contact not just of Northern Farm, but of many other Japanese investors and this is a critical competitive advantage for Inglis. Japanese buyers have been the most important investors in high-end breeding stock anywhere in the world over the past number of years, investing vast sums of money in the US and Europe and significant money in Australia. It is expected that they will continue to be strong buyers of quality breeding stock into 2026 and Inglis is uniquely well positioned to benefit from this.
Chairman’s Sale
“We just couldn’t be happier. With all three lots today, they all exceeded expectations. And the action on them, there’s not one person on them, there’s five or six people on them! I have never been in my life to a sale with an atmosphere like tonight.”
Peter O’Brien, Segenhoe Stud, who sold three mares including Amelia’s Jewel for $3,800,000 at The Chairman’s Sale in 2025
“It’s a very well done night, there’s a great atmosphere, everybody’s here, everybody’s in good form, everybody’s dressed up, we’re all in the room making a great atmosphere and it’s something that’s getting bigger and better every year. We’ve got some very good mares out of this sale so it gives us the appetite to come back.’’

“This is an incredible facility. [Inglis] puts on an amazing show.” David Redvers, Tweenhills Farm, Qatar Racing
“…a fantastic complex to show horses.’’ Adam White, Vinery Stud
“The No. 1 thing about this complex is safety. Feeling safe here, our horses are safe because the parade aisles are wider, there’s three different surfaces to walk horses on, you can stand either side to watch the horses walk and the layout is brilliant.’’ Francis Cook, Leading Owner, Breeder
“It’s a great complex for people to see the stock, it’s very user friendly, both the infrastructure but also the personnel at Inglis make it so easy to come into town, do their business and enjoy the experience.’’

One of the priciest broodmares ever sold at an Australian auction has broken records at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale in what the industry sees as a sign of a booming market. Group 1 winner Nimalee was bought by Colm Santry Bloodstock and Coolmore Australia for $3.6m, setting an Inglis Chairman’s Sale record at Warwick Farm.
It’s a steep increase on the $270,000 paid for the mare as a yearling and adds to her $1.7m in prizemoney earned from eight wins in 27 starts.
The sale price is up there with the most paid for a mare at a public auction in Australian history, behind Milanova ($5m), Sunlight ($4.2m) and Samantha Miss ($3.85m).
Renowned mare Montefilia sold last Thursday for $3.4m, also beating the previous Chairman’s Sale record of $2.7m, set last year. Eight mares sold for more than $1m, helping deliver an average of $567,267 across 109 lots and setting a Chairman’s Sale gross record of $42.5m.
“It is a trainer’s dream to have a horse like her and then to see her make that sort of money, it’s outstanding,” Nimalee’s trainer, Matthew Smith, said. The buoyant result comes two
weeks ahead of the competing Magic Millions broodmare sale on the Gold Coast where more big-name thoroughbreds are being sold, including multiple Group winner Piping Hot.
Magic Millions director Barry Bowditch said the Inglis sale, on top of a strong yearling sale on the Gold Coast in January, indicated there was great appetite for broodmares at the higher end of the market, driven by high prize money.
“There’s a craving for quality product out there and coming into the breeding stock sales I’d be confident that is set to continue,” he said. “I think the confidence in our game is there.” As for Piping Hot, Mr Bow-
ditch said selling a two-time Group 1 winner with proven progeny was an honour. The job will be made even easier, given that she is in foal to super stallion I Am Invincible, which has sired more than 60 stakes-winners and has a standing fee of $302,500.
“The economics of a mare like this, given she’s got a lot of her career ahead of her, she’s in foal to our best sire and she’s already produced one of Australia’s most exciting fillies (Coolangatta) at the moment, it’s the perfect storm for the purchaser in my opinion,” Mr Bowditch said.
Piping Hot’s value could rise significantly if Coolangatta wins the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot in England next month.

WHERE DREAMS ARE REALISED
“Yeah, very thrilled. Semana, great result. Tiz Invincible…I thought she would make a splash but yeah, that was pretty special. They’re such high quality racehorses, to see them off in this sort of fashion, you know, it’s the respect they deserve. I think the night’s unbelievable. It’s such a fitting end to her (Bella Nipotina’s) career. All the glitz and glamour and all the rest of it that goes with The Chairman’s Sale. I think it’s been a fantastic evening and such a fitting result for her and all her connections.” Ciaron Maher, who sold eight fillies and mares for $12,775,000
“I think it’s fantastic. Congratulations, hats off to the team at Inglis as you’ve done a remarkable job. There’s a great vibe. As I said the market’s great, it’s really encouraging...it’s tremendous, it’s really exciting.” Jon Freyer, Arrowfield Stud, who purchased I Am Me for $2,000,000
“Obviously there’s the tradition of Inglis which makes any sale here special. It’s a catalogue of great quality. It compares with any of the auctions around the world. You know, in every year, in every country, there are great females that go on the market and are snapped up by the biggest stud farms in the world. And obviously this is a showcase of that, this is at the pointy end of that and as a consequence, it’s a great night to be involved in.” Olly Tait, Twin Hills Stud
“Inglis have done it again, there’s no doubt about that. So well done to you. This is the first time I’ve ever been…so it was a great night. It was fantastic. My wife walked in and went ‘how long has this been going on?’ My sister-in-law Clare said ‘I’m a vendor from now on, I want to do this every year.’ So it was a really, really good event. And being in this complex at night, which I haven’t been to before at night, it was fantastic.” Wayne Hawkes, part-owner of Makarena which sold for $1,500,000
“The Chairman’s Sale is without doubt one of the highlights of our year as a consignor. We made a strategic plan to have a strong presence at The Chairman’s Sale this year and we could not have been happier with our results. For the sale to have so many high-class race mares as well as top-class producing mares offered on the night makes for a very strong and exciting day of trade. The atmosphere is electric and it is such a great sale to be involved with both from a selling and buying perspective.” Adam White, Vinery Stud, who sold nine lots for $6,101,000

“The result was fantastic, they just sold through the roof! So all credit to Inglis. The catalogue was so strong and then the types were so strong to match, all the right buyers were here and you could just feel it. I was sitting there with Peter Walsh’s daughter (Sammi) and you could feel the energy of the room. It’s just been incredible.”
