The Senate voted to block the sale of billions of dollars of munitions to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates on Thursday, in a sharp and bipartisan rebuke of the Trump administration’s attempt to circumvent Congress to allow the exports by declaring an emergency over Iran. In three back-to-back votes, Republicans joined Democrats to register their growing anger with the administration’s use of emergency power to cut lawmakers out of national security decisions, as well as the White House’s unflagging support for the Saudis despite congressional pressure to punish Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman after the killing in October of the journalist Jamal Khashoggi. A United Nations report released Wednesday made the most authoritative case to date that responsibility for the killing and its cover-up lies at the highest levels of the Saudi royal court. No other foreign policy issue has created as large a rift between President Trump and Congress, and the vote to block the arms sales deepens the divide.
It is the second time in just a few months that members of Mr. Trump’s party have publicly opposed his foreign policy, with both the House and Senate approving bipartisan legislation this spring to cut off military assistance to Saudi Arabia’s war in Yemen using the 1973 War Powers Act, only to see it vetoed. Members of Congress from both
parties have been holding up arms sales from American companies to Persian Gulf nations and trying to end American military support for the Saudi-led coalition that is fighting Houthi rebels in Yemen, which has resulted in what the United Nations calls the world’s worst man-made humanitarian disaster.

Most of the young detainees have not been able to shower or wash their clothes since they arrived at the facility, those who visited said. They have no access to toothbrushes, toothpaste or soap. “There is a stench,” said Elora Mukherjee, director of the Immigrants’ Rights Clinic at Columbia Law School, one of the lawyers who visited the facility. “The overwhelming majority of children have not bathed since they crossed the border.” Conditions at Customs and Border Protection facilities along the border have been an issue of increasing concern as officials warn that the recent large influx of migrant families has driven many of the facilities well past their capacities. The border station in Clint is only one of those with problems. In May, the inspector general for the Department of Homeland Security warned of “dangerous overcrowding” among adult migrants housed at the border processing center in El Paso, with up to 900 migrants being held at a facility designed for 125. In some cases, cells designed for 35 people were holding 155 people. “Border Patrol agents told us some of the detainees had been held in standing-room-only conditions for days or weeks,” the inspector general’s office said in its report, which noted that some detainees were observed standing on toilets in the cells “to make room and gain breathing space, thus limiting access to the toilets.” Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas on Friday announced the deployment of 1,000 new National Guard troops to the border to help respond to the continuing new arrivals, which the governor said have amounted to more than 45,000 people from 52 countries over the past three weeks. “The crisis at our southern border is unlike anything we’ve witnessed before and has put an enormous strain on the existing resources we have in place,” Mr. Abbott said, adding, “Congress is a group of reprobates for not addressing the crisis on our border.” After government lawyers argued in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco this week that amenities such as soap and toothbrushes should not be mandated under the legal settlement originally agreed to between the government and migrant families in 1997 and amended several times since then, all three judges voiced dismay. Among the guidelines set under the legal settlement are that facilities for children must be “safe and sanitary.” The Justice Department’s lawyer, Sarah Fabian, argued that the settlement agreement did not specify the need to supply hygienic items and therefore, the government did not need to do so. “Are you arguing seriously that you do not read the agreement as requiring you to do anything other than what I just described: cold all night long, lights on all night long, sleeping on concrete and you’ve got an aluminum foil blanket?” Judge William Fletcher asked Ms. Fabian. “I find that inconceivable that the government would say that is safe and sanitary.”

This filing is an important step in ensuring that Mr. Cosby receives a hearing from a fair and impartial court. The Constitution guarantees that right to Mr. Cosby—and to all Americans—and he looks forward to securing justice in the court of appeal.” Camille Cosby also released a statement that, “ America will be great when it fulfills the last four words of the revered Pledge of Allegiance ... ‘and justice for all.’”

FAREWELL TO LAST ORIGINAL TUSKEGEE AIRMAN
We lost one of the last original members of the famed Tuskegee Airmen earlier this week, Robert Friend. In World War II, Friend flew over 140 combat missions as part of the all-black elite group of trained fighter pilots, including missions in North Africa and Europe, according to CAF Red Tail Squadron, a group dedicated to preserving the legacy of America’s first African-American military pilots. After the NAACP began challenging policies barring blacks from flying military aircraft, a program was created at Alabama’s historic Tuskegee Institute, hence the name. Born in Columbia, South Carolina, in 1920, Robert Friend was the last living airman. He died in California at the beautiful age of 99 years young, surrounded by family and friends.

Serena Williams will be the second Black woman in History to grace the box of the iconic Wheaties athlete edition cereal boxes. She is completely honored as she takes to her instagram page to not only show appreciation to Wheaties but also to recognize Althea Gibson, who was the first black woman tennis player to be on the box. Instead of sulking in her moment, Serena took the time to acknowledge someone else’s black girl magic. And pay respects to someone who paved the way for her. Salute to Serena!

Chance Carter, Los Angeles Resident Kawhi should come to the Lakers because he would be a key contributor to the organization and he would NOT just be a 3rd wheel type of deal. His skills both offensively & defensively compliment AD & Lebron’s abilities & spacing without over shadowing.
Laylah Akbar, Los Angeles Resident Kawhi doesn’t need to come to the Lakers necessarily. The Lakers organization shouldn’t spend their cap on signing a 3rd max player. That money should go towards acquiring a few more fundamentally sound role players that will contribute to and compliment the team as a whole.

CITY COUNCIL CONTINUES REVIEW OF FINAL RENT STABILIZATION MEASURE

Because community input from Inglewood renters and property owners, the initiative by Mayor James T. Butts, Jr., recommending adoption of Ordinance No. 19-13 to amend Chapter 8 (Business, Trades, and Professions) of the Inglewood Municipal Code to add a new Article 9 (Housing Protection Initiative) for the regulation of rent increases and just cause evictions for certain covered residential rental units, that was slated for implementation, was unanimously tabled for further review by the city council. The council approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Los Angeles Superior Court to provide the City Attorney’s Office with access to the Court’s Justice Partner Portal to access court records for mental health cases and other confidential documents. The council adopted a resolution ratifying the following appointments to the South Bay Workforce Investment Board: On May 2, 2019, the Inglewood Airport Area Chamber of Commerce nominated Mr. Mohammad Naser, Interim Chief Executive Officer of Centinela Hospital Medical Center, to serve a term of office that commences on July 1, 2019, and ends on June 30, 2023. On February 12, 2019, the City of Hawthorne appointed Mr. Muhamad Awadallah, President at WSC, Inc., to serve a term of office that commences on July 1, 2019, and ends on June 30, 2021. On May 28, 2019, the City of Hawthorne re-appointed Mr. Tod Sword, Economic Development Consultant, Southern California Edison, to serve a term of office that commences on July 1, 2019, and ends on June 30, 2023. The council adopted a resolution amending the Fiscal Year 2018-2019 budget to reflect a budget adjustment of the account codes used for the purchase of eight (8) replacement paratransit vehicles and radios for the City’s Senior Transportation Program. Council approved an agreement with the City of Los Angeles for acceptance of Fiscal Year 2018 Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) grant funds in the amount of $59,512 and an Agreement with the City of Glendale for crime laboratory services, extending the agreement to 2022. Council authorized the purchase of eleven (11) low-emission vehicles, and a minimum of eight (8) electric bikes for the IPD and approved a 16-month agreement (includes tow (2) one (1) year extension options) with West Coast Lights and Sirens to provide vehicle outfitting services for marked and unmarked police

During the comments portion of the city council meeting, council members extended safe 4th of July wishes to the community and reminded everyone that only Safe and Sane fireworks are permitted and legally sold in the City of Inglewood. All minors, under the age of 16 must be supervised by a person that is 18 years of age and older. And note, administrative fines for using illegal fireworks can be as much as $500.00. These fines can be given by the Inglewood’s Code Enforcement Officers or Police. DON’T DO IT!!!!
