Eager Developers Attend Market Street Bidder’s Conference By Veronica Mackey

T

he City of Inglewood took a major step forward last week, infusing new life into the downtown area. Long depressed Market Street has been getting a lot of attention lately, thanks to efforts by City leaders to solicit Requests for Qualifications (RFQs) from potential developers. The response indicated high interest in turning the area from vacant lots and old buildings into a thriving center of commerce. Potential developers packed the house in City Hall on August 8, where the Market Street Bidder’s Conference was held, for a briefing about the project. “Interest in the project is unprecedented in terms of the numbers of vendors participating,” said Acting Community Development Director Linda Tatum. “There was standing room only.” The land is owned by the Inglewood Successor Agency (former Redevelopment

Agency). On January 10, 2012, The City of Inglewood elected to become the Successor Agency of the former Inglewood Redevelopment Agency, taking effect on February 1, 2012, according to the City’s website (www. cityofinglewood.org). As the Successor Agency, the City of Inglewood elected to carry out activities necessary to wind down the affairs of the former Redevelopment agency. This includes completing different

projects in various stages of implementation. The City Council of the City of Inglewood is the designated Governing Board of the Successor Agency. Officers include: Chairman James T. Butts, Jr.; Board Members George Dotson, Alex Padilla, Eloy Morales, Ralph L. Franklin, and Executive Director Artie Fields. Williams’ Death Shocks Fans

F

ans in Hollywood and everywhere are experiencing shock over the sudden death of beloved Oscar winning actor and comedian Robin Williams. Considered a comedic genius, Williams is known for his wild antics, dozens of impersonations and spontaneous physical comedy as well as critically acclaimed dramatic roles. But as funny as he was, he could not make himself happy. The actor took his own life Monday morning, by ly 1.3 acres in downtown hanging himself in his Bay Inglewood.
