A

bout 1,400 people turned out for the City of Inglewood’s annual State of the City Address, held at the Fabulous Forum on April 21. It was the largest SOTC in Inglewood history. The annual fundraiser for the Inglewood Airport Area Chamber of Commerce featured Mayor James Butts as the keynote speaker, joined onstage by emcee and KCBS sports director Jim Hill and KNBC sports anchor Fred Roggin. The lightning-fast speed in which the city has been growing could be considered a fairy tale, only better. It is the story of what can happen when commitment and hard work meet (Continued on page 8)

Inglewood High School Senior Receives $1,000 Scholarship from City

uring last week’s State of The City Address, Inglewood High School senior, Naomi Hephzibah, who was recently awarded a 4-year scholarship to Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York, received an additional $1000 scholarship and award for academic excellence. An against-all-odds success story, Naomi, originally from London, England, travelled with her family to California, where they struggled (Continued on page 7)
