Plantations residents celebrate a unique evening of medieval games, food and entertainment.
HUZZAH! Ye olde times and a knight to remember The residents at Plantations by Ingenia Lifestyle bolstered community spirits earlier this year with an outlandish medieval day of feasts, festivities, and fair maidens.
W
ith valiant knights and kilted Scotsmen battling with swords, jousting, jugglers and a candlelit banquet in the ‘Great Hall’, the residents at Plantations warmed themselves with mulled wine and laughter while they stepped back in time to ye olde days of England. As COVID-19 puts a spanner in the works of our everyday lives, Plantations residents sir-tainly aren’t letting it get in the way of a good time. Brian Conway, resident and President of the Social Club at Plantations said the monthly events at the community and the enthusiasm from all the residents is what made Plantations so special. “Everyone had a fantastic time harking back to medieval times. The community management team and residents went all out for the event, and we all had a blast,” Mr Conway said. “We all dressed up for the day, I wore a knight’s outfit and even grew a beard especially for the occasion! “It was a fabulous day – it’s not often you get fire twirlers, a spit roast and to try your hand at archery.”
Brian has held the title of President of the Social Club for two years and once again lent a helping hand in organising the event. “I personally get such a great sense of pride and satisfaction seeing the whole community enjoy the community events that I take part in organising,” said Brian.
“It’s such a pleasure when Ingenia can run events for the residents on top of the events that the social club organises – we just enjoy being able to see the community enjoy being together.“
“Although the Ingenia team has organised and planned this particular day for us, I think what’s important is that we work so well together – there’s no ‘us’ and ‘them’, and they have as much fun as we do.
“We like to do things in our own Plantations-style and we certainly like to have fun while doing so!” Ingenia Lifestyle Community Manager Ann Blair said the residents knew how to kick back and have a good time. “It’s the people and opportunities here that makes Plantations a place that people want to live – these events are always a highlight,” said Ms Blair.

NOTE FROM INGENIA: The Plantations community were lucky enough to schedule this event prior to the resurgence of COVID-19 in New South Wales. All NSW Health regulations current on the day were adhered to in the running of this event. We look forward to returning to a simpler time where we can all enjoy fantastic events like this one.
Final settlement marks completion of Latitude One After four years, Latitude One by Ingenia Lifestyle has announced its final settlement.
A
pproximately 400 residents now call Latitude One home, residing in an array of 270 beautifully designed homes within a community that features a $10 million clubhouse at its centre. Ingenia Communities General Manager Sales Kate Melrose said that residents attracted to the community were searching for affordable downsizing opportunities to live out their best years in retirement. “Houses at Latitude One started from $359,000, with the median price sitting at $594,000, making it the perfect entry-level opportunities for retirees to downsize while enjoying the perks of retirement living,” Kate said. “Location has definitely been a contributing factor to the community’s success. Port Stephens offers easy access to surrounding areas and provides our residents with close proximity to local beaches, restaurants and national parks. The community is part of Ingenia Lifestyle’s luxury Star Collection and has been purposebuilt for a resort-style retirement. From location and community amenity to home designs and events, each element of the community has been designed to support a thriving social life and healthy ageing. Ms Melrose said the master-planned design considered the long-term needs of residents and she was thrilled that they can embrace everything the community offers now that it has reached completion.
“Latitude One has been in the making since 2017 and we’re so thrilled to have welcomed so many residents into the community since it first started,” Ms Melrose said. “We’ve reached an exciting milestone at Latitude One and we’re so proud of the wonderful people and community that we have created here. Latitude One by Ingenia Lifestyle has been announced as a finalist in the Retirement Living Awards 2021 in the category or Best Retirement Living Development. The winner is scheduled to be announced in November.

Plantations residents get social with pre-loved glad rags The residents at Plantations hit their local charity stores to dress up ahead of their op-shop evening ball which was held earlier this year.
D
ressed to the nines in their pre-loved best, the residents danced the night away, knowing they were supporting the local community. The community’s social club has worked hard to raise funds to throw a not-to-be-missed event and celebrate life at the ever-growing community. Brian Conway, President of the Social Club said it was all about saying thank you to the residents for their continuous involvement in the events that the social club organised, as well as showing support for the local op shops. “The Social Club organises social events that are only successful if the community rallies together and gets involved – so tonight is a celebration of that and a way to say thank you,” Mr Conway said. “We asked everyone to go out and buy something from local op shops as a way to give a little back to the community and show our support for them. “We like to do our bit to help out and have fun while we’re doing it!” The residents went all out with a ‘Dancing with the Stars’-like contest, skits, raffles and some good old jive and rock n’ roll in their funkiest and cheapest op shop threads. Ingenia Lifestyle Community Manager Ann Blair said the social club’s monthly events are an ACTIVE LIFE • SPRING 2021
added bonus on top of the regular social and lifestyle program that Ingenia Lifestyle runs throughout the year. “Across the community there’s such a friendly and welcoming feeling that’s created by the residents themselves and the opportunities that they get involved in together.”
Shedding stereotypes for men’s health It’s no secret that older men can be more stubborn when it comes to their health, and are less likely than women to seek help, but at Ingenia Lifestyle Chambers everyday involvement in the community is seeing men take a step in the right direction.
I
ngenia Lifestyle Chambers Pines Community Manager Ian Thompson said the encouragement and inclusive approach towards activities and events at the community had successfully seen men break down those barriers. “It’s the old case of breaking down taboos and stereotypes, particularly for the older generation who were more restricted by what a ‘real man’ is and how a ‘real man’ should behave,” said Mr Thompson. “Our community shed which is available to all residents, has been really successful in providing some of the men here with a safe and comfortable environment.
Ian, Community Manager with Grant using the shed equipment.
“It’s a setting that a lot of the men are familiar with and grew up around, so it provides common ground for some of those more indepth conversations to take place.” Grant Lucinsky has been a resident for 18 months at Ingenia Lifestyle Chambers Pines
and said the community shed was one of the main drivers for making his move to the Ingenia Lifestyle Chambers Pines community with his wife Carolyn. “For us men, it’s an escape to come into our own creative space and make things and chat with each other,” said Grant. “It’s extremely valuable to us in that sense. But it’s also very satisfying and purposeful for us because we’re able to create something of our own and a lend a hand to others. “There are also some folks who don’t have the skill or know-how to make things like a planter box – it’s great that they can just ask one of their neighbours to make it for them or teach them how to make it from scratch.” “You meet other people that you wouldn’t have crossed paths if you hadn’t been part of the community shed and we tell stories and get to know each other – sometimes we’re just down there trying to solve the world’s problems.”

Walking for health and friendship When the Assistant Community Manager at Ingenia Lifestyle Chambers Pines, Heather Gawronski and Relief Manager, Christine Kellet were welcoming Les and Roz Brooks to their new community back in July, Heather stated that the Heart Foundation Walking program had been added to the Ingenia Activate program. “Les has been a co-ordinator for the Walking program at Forest Lake,” Roz announced. Heather and Les had a chat and it was decided that Les, along with fellow resident Peter Thompson, would take on the co-ordinator roles for the inaugural Ingenia Lifestyle walking group. Les has been walking with the Heart Foundation for 13 years and plans to transition from the Forest Lake group to the new Chambers Pines group so he can walk close to his new home. “We’ve had 35 residents’ express interest in joining the group. We need to schedule a meeting so the group can decide on the best days and time for our walks. We will also decide on how often we want to get out. I currently walk three times a week, but some people prefer to walk more or less often,” said Les. “Every walking group is different. Some people break off into pairs and others walk alone. Some groups take their dogs with them. We will probably end up creating additional groups to cater for people with different needs. Some people like to walk fast, other’s prefer to walk more slowly.” “It’s about physical and mental wellbeing. There’s also a social element to walking. You always end up chatting to someone and when the conversation ends, you move along to chat to someone else,” Les said.
